View Full Version : Spielberg Confirms Indiana Jones 4 To Follow Munich

Some awesome bit of news...read on:
"Unless some very powerful fates finally conspire to do Indiana Jones in once and for all (and he’s beat some pretty tough foes in his day), the long-awaited fourth film in the “Indiana Jones” franchise is full speed ahead for production this year (and release next year, according to series creator George Lucas).
While director Steven Spielberg remained largely silent on his work on “Indiana Jones IV” during the busy days on “War of the Worlds” and “Munich,” Spielberg finally broke the silence in a recent interview with Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
“I haven’t given up making entertaining films, but over the last decade I have been making some films that express the respect I have for history,” Spielberg said.
“I am about to make ‘Indiana Jones 4,’ which is, as far as I am concerned, the sweet dessert I give those who had to chow down on the bitter herbs that I’ve used in ‘Munich.’”
I think that about says enough to set the ‘net ablaze with talk tonight!"

Finally some actual news. I understand that the script will be written around Harrison Ford's age but I still think a geriatric Indy may be slightly ridiculous. After all, Indy is supposed to be the uber-action hero.

Fucking great news.

Too little too late. This project took too damn long to get off the ground. The way I understand it, Lucas was never fully satisfied with the final script, hence the long delay.
Dont get me wrong, the Indy movies are some of my personal favorites. But I just think Ford is too damn old already.

I can see it possibly having a sidekick to tag along with Harrison...somebody to maybe take some of the more bumps and bruises that wouldn't be as great/believeable with Harrisons age.

Awesome news!
And really, ease up about Harrison's age. You guys act like we're gonna be seeing Indiana Jones in a walker. Since the story most likely takes place in the fifties, Ford's age in the film will make sense. And from what I understand, his latest film--Firewall--shows that he can still realistically take some damage and save the day.

Harrison Ford is 63. Next year he'll be 64 then the next 65.
Back when Temple of Doom was being made Harrison Ford was 3 years older than when he acted in Raiders. He had to play the character at around the same age Indy was in Raiders.
My point is that even though Harrison is 63 years old he could play the character of Indy as if he was 55.

I don't see one problem with Indiana's age. Spielberg is a storyteller and has hired some of the great screenwriters of our time to write a story around one of the most beloved hero's in cinema. This isn't a Bond film, or even Rocky, he doesn't do the same thing for 40 years, he evolves and matures. If anything his age will leed us into a new angle for the character that we couldn't see in his thirties.

This was Harrison Ford in his cameo appearance as fifty year old Indy in Chapter 20: Mystery of the Blues.
Now even though this would of been taken a few years ago, in my mind it shows how Indy could possibly look in the fourth film. To me it doesn't seem that bad.

Despite his age, Ford is still in GREAT shape physically. Just as long as they write his age in, it should work. The pic below was Ford 5 years ago, and he still pretty much looks like that. In Firewall he still did most of his stunts and fight scenes, and everyone on the set admired his physical proweness.

Yea, let's use Harrison Ford's age as a gimmick in Indiana Jones just like everybody else is saying. We can have scenes of Indiana Jones speedwalking while carrying a cane from a boulder. Or a picture of Indiana Jones running nazis over with his wheelchair. Or his love changing his diaper every time he makes a doody.
Fuck Indiana Jones. The whole series is just a rip-off of Tomb Raider, but with a guy.

Spielberg knew they were gonna do videogame adventure franchise with a female character so he went ahead and made Indiana Jones that way he could get credit for inventing the tomb-raiding genre, when in actuality it was Tomb Raider that invented the genre Indiana Jones is in about 15 years later.

You guys remember that episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force where Frylock is banging his head on the wall because Shake and Meatwad are so dumb that they keep losing the Team Trivia game? That's kind of what I feel like doing right now.

So you're saying that Steven Spielberg knew exactly how video games would be and look like in 1996? I don't think the graphics or the look of video games around the time of Raiders of the Lost Ark were that great as to be an indication of how advanced they'd be about the time Tomb Raider was released.
Second of all, how can a new character invent a genre when another character was invented for the genre years before hand? That's like saying that Star Wars created the Sci-Fi genre when there had been Sci-Fi films years before it came out.
If you're saying that an Indiana Jones game was released, in the same style as Tomb Raider, years after the Tomb Raider games were created then it still doesn't make any sense for you saying that Indiana Jones is a rip-off of Tomb Raider. I'd say its the other way around. Tomb Raider was inspired by Indiana Jones.

Boyz...go easy on Tripping, I'm pretty sure that he's kidding. I have faith in the human evolution not allowing for such stupidity to even evolve. What I'm trying trying to say, is that, a damn sloth could find a faster way towards an intelligent thought...and here, we're talking about a human being. I'll give Tripping the benefit of the doubt.

Holy shit !
I heard Ford did a cameo for Mystery of the Blues but I've never seen that episode, this is awsome. Maybe he will have a beard, he's usually scruffed with a 5 oclock shadow most of the time, maybe he'll take like his pop and grow one out. Very cool picture, good find. Damn. I can't wait.
