A couple nights ago Trent Reznor chose to walk off the stage when someone threw a lighter and hit him in the lip. A lot of people from that show were pretty choked, but I guess the question is.....when is it ok for a band to abruptly leave the stage in the middle of a show?

Whenever they please. Especially if people are being asses. If most bands are willing to play in the fucking rain and damage their equipment just to entertain you, then the people should show a little respect. But then again, most of the people at concerts anymore act like drunken retards, so I guess it's kind of stupid to ask them to give respect.

Uhhhh whenever they please? Like it or not man, the people who are acting like drunken asses, are paying to act like drunken asses if they feel the need. These stadiums serve booze as well. And man, these are rock concerts we're talking about, do you think people over time have generally acted like they're in church? When it comes to people throwing stuff at the stage though, stuff that isn't a bra or something stupid like that, I don't blame the band for walking off. The people are paying money to see these guys play, and if they take the 'whenever they please' policy, it's pretty cunty when the people are paying $50 a ticket.

I'm saying they can when they please. I'm not saying it's right. I feel for everybody who payed for those Guns tickets who didn't get to see them cuz Axl's an asshole. But I understand that when Trent gets hit in the face with a lighter, he chooses to walk off the stage.
And on the subject of "drunken idiots" at a concert there have been many times that when people have been "too drunk" they've been removed. So there are limits. Besides I never understood getting drunk in public and acting like an ass, I'd rather drink at home and chill out.

Once I saw Bad religion and pearl Jam and Eddie Veddar said he was too sick to sing. they only played about four songs then he had Neil Young take over but he made it up later in San Jose(Spartan Stadiaum) when they played for about three hours......me and my friends were pissed, the concert was in SF and one of my friends(RIP) was in a wheelchair so the hills were a tough in him and we parked kind of far then to get there and have them not play, it was diappointing. but I rememeber the show they put on later on, not the one they flaked out on. In a fact that seems irrelevant now, my friend did get to see them play.

I guess its true that it only takes one idiot in the house to ruin it for everybody else.

There's video of this somewhere on the net. He was doing Hurt and he just pushes over his keyboard and mic and walked off stage. Can't say I blame the guy. You come to a venue to perform a song and get shit thrown at you? What the fuck? Well, everything ended up alright, because the asshole that did that got the shit kicked out of him by about 10 people and then security dragged his ass out of there.

Oh, and come on, it's fucking Hurt. You can't throw shit at someone when he's pouring his heart performing Hurt. Closer or Head Like a Hole maybe, but not Hurt.

Yeah I saw the video, it's funny cause the crowd still cheers at that point, not knowing that he's not coming back. I agree with your second point too, horrible timing. Starfuckers would be a more appropriate song, especially if you're a Manson fan.

I agree that bands should be able to walk off stage at any time they wish, provided it is for a valid reason.

People DO pay to see shows, and are entitled to act like drunken loons if they wish, but if that lunacy extends into becoming an encumberance to other audience members, and an annoyance to the band, then they have every right to stop the show.

Trent Reznor did exactly what he should have done, and exactly what I assume most of us would do. You can actually see the "Fuck this shit" going through his head in the way he pushes the keyboard over. Also, I'm glad of the reports that the audience beat the living shit out of the twat who threw the lighter. Any real fan at a show wouldn't throw anything (besides maybe underwear or other souvenirs) at the people they've paid their money to see perform. If they do they're obviously an idiot and deserve a right good kicking.
