View Full Version : Ang Lee Directing A Lesbian Movie Next!

Hey everybody,
Just when you thought the discussions on these homosexual films couldn't go on any further, it now turns it that we'll be hearing more and more in the future. Ang Lee has apparently approached Kate Moss to play a lesbian in his latest biopic of Dusty Springfield with Charlize Theron apparently playing Dusty. Ang Lee is a talented director but why does he keep on doing this. I'm sure it will be a great film but once this movie comes out, people will just starting uproaring again like it was and still is with Brokeback Mountain. Anyway, here is the link to the story below. What do you all think?

What would this one be called?
Brokeback Lake?

Perhaps they'd call it...
Broke-crack Monster
OH! :D
On a serious note though, Kate Moss, eh? That's an interesting choice. With all the news going around about her. Could be interesting.

Gay or lesbian is a sexual preference. No one asks why people keep making movies about white men fucking white women, do they? :)
I do think this is interesting. I never, EVER, would've picked Ang Lee to direct a Dusty Springfield biopic because, as much as I like some of Lee's movie, he's only one of several very good directors out there, and I don't exactly see what his particular link / bond to the material would be. But he's a good director, he's hot right now bc of BROKEBACK, and the Charlize Theron and Kate Moss casting choices definitely sound very, very interesting. I'm there.

Dusty Springfield was bisexual but I don't see how that portion of her life makes this a "lesbian movie".
Ang Lee has great taste and he's a wonderful director. Dusty Springfield was a pretty fascinating individual with quite a substantial contribution to popular music and defininetely makes for an excellent subject for a biopic. Her sexuality becoming the main focus of buzz for this flick is kind of disturbing for me, lacking a better word.

What's the big deal with people having problems with Ang Lee directing another movie with a gay character in it? It doesn't necessarily make it a "gay" film and it's also not like he's never had gay characters in his films before (Brokeback Mountain but also The Wedding Banquet way back in 1993)...
This sounds interesting. Kate Moss is a surprising choice but I'm sure if Lee picks her, she must have some kind of talent. And Charlize Theron playing the main character - sweet.

That's because some people have nothing better to do than reduce a good film to it's lowest possible denominator. I honestly don't know what people have against this film. Comments like "whatever i'm sick of this gay bullshit," reek of not only immaturity but fear. Hey cocksmokinclerk!! You're straight, you're as straight as a god damn arrow, and then some...we get it!! You don't have to prove it to us by typing shit like that.
Though It's damn funny when you come across such things. Even the mere mention of this film from a person like cocksmokinclerk, would, in his mind, establish him to be of "questionable sexual orientation." Here's a bit of free advice...travel a little bit of the world, read a bit more, also, stay in school and don't do drugs...that shit will seriously fry your brain. Hopefully then, you'll realize that the world is full of people who are different than you or I or your neighbours or your friends.
I have many friends who happen to be gay, and I can honestly tell you that they find the idea of hetrosexuality as vexing as we might find homosexuality. That said...I don't go around hating gays or lesbians. You wanna know why, I'm sure of who I am and I don't feel the need to thump my chest everytime someone or something different comes within an ear shot.
Grow up people.

hmm, somebody go on a power trip? i know a few gay people too dude, so dont act like you know me and they are nice people but just because i dont approve of what they do doesn't mean that i think that they dont have redeeming qualities, when i said that i was trying to say that i'm sick of the liberal media making gay seem normal, because its not, ITS NOT!! but that doesn't mean that i hate them, and i do plan on seeing brokeback mountain when it comes out, but i certainly dont plan on enjoying it

Hmmm... "a power trip," okay?? Have you even thought what normal really is. Normalcy is what the majority concludes to be acceptable, and anything slightly deviating from the generally accepted is regarded to be abnormal. Especially when you consider social norms. It is, in actuality quite normal to be gay, that aspect of life is present not only in humans but other species in the animal kingdom, and it's been there for ages. The problem with people like you cock, is that you adhere to social stereotypes far too easily without ever questioning it. Try and do more of the questioning and you'll be a better person for it.
P.S. You're right, I don't know you and I apologize for having jumped to a conclusion...but what other conclusion was I supposed to derive, when you wrote something as eloquent as "whatever i'm sick of this gay bullshit."

i've done quite a bit of research, like the fact that 95% of all child molestation incidents happen in a gay situation, hmm doesn't sound like they are in there right minds to me, but that aside i have met a few gay people in my day and the majority of them make me extremely uncomfortable, i was never bi-est (sp) but all the lesbians i met were man-haters and the gay guys would always cling on me and want something with me wanting me to be gay, that sounds a lik over-sexed to me, so i'm sorry dude, i just dont approve

Here's what the experts say about pedophilia and homosexuality:
"It is ludicrous to identify pedophiles as homosexuals." In over 14 years of Robson's work with pedophiles, 498 out of 500 offenders identified themselves as heterosexual.

It might be a good idea for you to read this: http://www.joekort.com/articles50.htm
To use the argument that child molestation is a gay thing is a seriously disturbed view of people.
There are statistics showing that the majority of child molesters, also over 95% are male (http://www.crimelibrary.com/criminal_mind/psychology/pedophiles/2.html). So are you going to assume that all males must "not be in their right minds"?
Just like basing your view of all gay people on a very small percentage that you've met is also a little sad. I know several gay people myself and I've never seen this problem with most of them - true, some can be more "clingy" as you put it, or more flamboyant but there are just as many girls who "cling" to guys and vice versa.

Yeah. Because they didn't recive as much as attention as Brokeback has. They have basically taken a social taboo and plastered it all over a movie screen.

Some great points by JCPhoenix and Someguy. You can't simply paint everyone else with the same brush just because you had a bad experience those few odd times. The odd time someone has used a racial slur towards me, does that give me the right to say all white people are a bunch of ignorant schmucks...the answer is no and no. There are idiots everywhere and in every facet of life. Just because one person is a wee bit off center, doesn't mean everyone else is.
As far as your source of information cocksmokinclerk, I'd suggest you go beyond your "high school project" and update your knowledge regarding such matters. Especially if you're going to come to such generic conclusions.

ANYWAY.....I'll be checking this out. I used to hate Ang Lee (Hulk...3/10), but he's kinda growing on me. Ever since I realized he was the man behind Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Ice Storm, I've gained a new respect for him. Brokeback Mountain only reinforced that.

The issue is not about gay people in films because I encourage the fact since I have several gay friends and have no problem with it whatsoever. It's just that it looks like Ang Lee is convinced that movies like this will win him Oscars and he'll keep going.

And it's not like this would be the first time Charlize Theron made out with a female in a movie. I believe her and Christina Ricci got it on in Monster. So it's not new territory for its director or its star. Hopefully this time though, Charlize will appear a lot hotter (like in real life) than she did in Monster.

First of all, even if this movies does get made, you have to wonder how much will be made of Dusty Springfield's lesbianism. For those unfamiliar with her life story, Dusty kept that part of her life VERY secret. Even some of her closest friends had no idea and many of her fans did not even know until it was revealed after her death. Ang Lee may choose to focus on Dusty being a lesbian, but let's be realistic -- there's not going to be any hot and heavy girl-on-girl action. And just like "Brokeback Mountain", it won't be a "gay movie" unless people focus only on that subject (and which I doubt Ang Lee will do regardless).

I enjoyed HULK too. I gave it 8/10. I thought it was a lot deeper than just your average comic book film. Nolte was a little out there, but everything else was awesome. A better ending might have even bumped it to a 9/10, but probably not. I honestly hope we see a sequel one day.

Yeah sure. All of what you just said comes from ignorance. When people are ignorant of a culture or lifestyle then they hate, fear and paranoia builds.
Still it leaves no exscuse to utter such shit as the above comment I quoted.
I may be wrong but it seems the comment can barely hide the distain for homosexuality.
