Hootie and the Blowfish - Looking For Lucky
This is an amazing comeback for them. Also, any Wallflowers album is great to buy. That is a band that really didn't do much after their Bringing Down the Horse album with chart numbers.

^^So true about the Wallflowers. One great example of how numbers don't equate quality.

Check Into Eternity out. The lead singer, Stu Block, ranges from Sebastian Bach to Alexi Laiho. I know I sound like a promo now, but I'm drunk, and I'm now recalling all of the cool times I've had seeing them in concerts...

Our tastes are the same, but these two picks? Come on, these bands are barely cool to scenesters.

I've enjoyed Senses Fail since the time I blind bought their EP when it came out. I'll admit I don't care for most of their new stuff, but their EP was something I never had really heard before and got me into more bands.
From First to Last...well, I put them up there because it is a CD for everyone. While people see them as a crappy post-hardcore band, the CD is packed with various song types, ranging from pop-punk ballads, a song with rap, regular post-hardcore songs, an actually minuet, and a new wave-ish type of song. I enjoy the fact a typical Warped Tour band can do that now. They aren't the best band in the world, but I don't understand all the hate.

A lot of the following picks are pretty common ones that people have probably heard but just in case someone hasn't heard that particular album, there's this list of some albums I love. Again, though, a personal taste disclaimer :)
Oasis - Definitely Maybe (since everyone always seems to go on about their second album...well I think their first album is better)
The Earlies - These Were the Earlies (great psychedelic album which is a collection of some songs from their EPs...excellent if you like pot ;))
Arcade Fire - Funeral (great album that most people have heard and if you haven't heard it, get it now!)
Pinetop Seven - The Night's Bloom (I love this album...it's so...sweeping and cinematic. It's absolutely beautiful)
Stars - Heart (I know lots of people have Set Yourself on Fire but Heart is very good too)
Our Lady Peace - Happiness is Not a Fish That You Can Catch (my favorite OLP album though Clumsy is close behind. Their last two albums have been mediocre though)
The Notwist - Neon Golden (Great chilling out music)
New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies (of the New Order albums I've heard, my favorite)
Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica (I bought this on a whim about a year ago and thought it pretty alright first time around but it REALLY grew on me)
Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs (Just plain love this album)
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (because everyone always goes apeshit over The Soft Bulletin and this album is just as good imo)
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun (beautiful beautiful music. If you've seen Vanilla Sky, you might recognize Svefn-G-Englar and the title track)
Elliott Smith - Either/Or (my favorite Elliott Smith album. Angeles alone makes this album worth getting but with Say Yes, Rose Parade and Between the Bars as well...definitely worth getting)
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing... (only discovered this album a short while ago but it's fantastic, my favorite track is also the biggest hit from the album, the melancholy Midnight in a Perfect World)
Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister (not one filler track from beginning to end, at least for me. The title track is possibly my favorite Belle & Sebastian song, tied with The State I Am In)
Spoon - Gimme Fiction (a very catchy album. I Summon You is easily my favorite song from this)
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness (the first album my brother ever bought (on tape I recall) and one that I ended up loving)
Psychocandy

Fuck...I could fill a few days recommending albums. So i'll just throw a few out there. All of these are solid gold.
The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy & The Lash
The diversity and richness of the music on this album is remarkable. And the recently released remastered edition features A Rainy Night In Soho as a bonus track. A song that so drop dead gorgeous that it's capable of reducing the stoniest of hearts to rubble.
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Darklands
I could have chosen their stunning debut album Psychocandy over this but fuck it...this was the album that rescued my musical taste from stultifying mundanity and put my feet on a path replete with riches. Absolutely magnificent.
16 Horsepower - Sackcloth And Ashes
Punk americana. With a lead singer who spews fire and brimstone and a band who create a banjo fuelled racket befitting his biblically inclined lyrical prowess this is an album that demanded my attention for months. I still listen to it regularly.
The Handsome Family - Through The Trees
This is the kind of country album that the house band in Twin Peaks Red Lodge would make. The lyrics are quirky and the music affecting. The last song on the album, My Ghost, is one of the most thrilling songs i've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Lyre Of Orpheus/Abattoir Blues
As impossible as it might seem Nick Cave managed to better anything in his back catalogue with these simultaneous releases. The sheer diversity on display here is beyond belief.
