JoBlo
03-04-2006, 04:46 PM
Well, this is the place to discuss Sunday night's OSCARS, whether it be beforehand to discuss your picks and shit, or during the actual show, with your observations. Remember to enter the OSCAR PREDICTION CONTEST (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98656) first though (which will end at 6pm on Sunday) and you can check out all of the true Oscar stuff over at their official site: www.oscar.com.
Oh, and if you can get in (only 10 people allowed maximum), you can chat directly in our JoBlo.com CHAT ROOM at http://www.joblo.com/chat.htm.

Haha.
I'm laughing cause last year for the Oscars in this same kind of thread I got about 400 posts.
I was like woah!
Can't wait to discuss it as I'm watching it with my fellow schmoes. It was a good experience last year, gives the Oscars another layer.

Must say, the Oscars this year are pretty disappointing. Not as disappointing as the Golden Globes though. Brokeback for Best Picture? I'm never going to see that shoddy flick. Crash was bad enough... I actually had my bets on King Kong getting a best picture nod...see how that went down.

In my opinion, the only really strong category this year is Best Leading Actor. I am convinced that William Hurt getting an Oscar nom for supporting actor is a joke, I mean seriously he was in A History of Violence for 5 minutes and showed nothing exceptional in his performance.

03-04-2006, 07:24 PM
i personally think jake ghyllenhaal(sp?) is easily the best, but in reality he is techinically just as much a lead as heath, and william hurt is in history of violence for five minutes...anyone think they should have more restrictions on what determines a supporting role?

I disagree. I thought Hurt gave an enormously entertaining performance in A History of Violence. His scene is my favorite scene in the movie.

Yeah I'll totally be in that AIM chat tonight.
What I REALLY want this year is an upset. And some surprises. Like, CRASH winning Best Picture. Actually--I wouldn't mind a split. Give Ang Lee the Best Director award, and CRASH the B.P...or vice-versa..all I know is..if Brokeback Mountain sweeps, I will puke. Literally. Especially if it wins the Original Score award. That score was nothing but two or three guitar notes. And some soft orchestra underscore. Very bland, to say the least.
I would LOVE to see Amy Adams win forJUNEBUG. Easily my favorite supporting performance from an actress last year. Frankly, I am getting sick of Phillip Seymour Hoffman and his CAPOTE status. Now, Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon--those are the kind of performances that deserve awards: the ones that resonate emotionally.
See you guys later tonight!

If anyone should have got nominated it should have been Ed Harris. I liked William Hurt's role too but I don't think it was better than Ed's.
I want Matt Dillon to win but I doubt it'll happen. At least he won the Independent Spirt Award the other night.

Well...I saw Brokeback, and it was indeed good, but hardly Best Picture material. Jake Gyllenhaal was much better than Heath Ledger in it though, and Heath's getting all the praise, and Gyllenhaal's OTHER movie of the year, Jarhead, was WAAAAAYYYY better than Brokeback. I'm rooting for Crash, but Brokeback is gonna win.
Oh well, I have Crash on DVD, and Jarhead will be out next week, so I'll live.

I still can't figure out the fuss about Crash...gimme a break, the movie was terrible. Didn't like Million Dollar Baby either, friggin' Aviator got robbed acting and film of the year. DiCaprio rode circles all around Jamie Foxx's lip-synching ass!!!!

Best supporting actor: Willie Nelson, The Dukes Of Hazzard.

Brokeback all the way! The whole "crash upset" thing, was invented to create drama. There's not a chance in hell it's going to fly in and win. So excited to see the first rap performance at the oscars... Um yeah, not. How exciting that they just earned the right to use "bitches" in the song. i hope they cut to like Meryl Streep once the swearing begins.
One of our drinking games: A shot every time a tired Brokeback joke is used. 2 shots if someone actually comes up with something witty and new.
