Can someone explain to me what all the hype was and why these guys were proclaimed as the saviours of metal, the next Metallica, etc.? Because the album I got, "Ascendancy", is very middle of the road as far as metal goes today. In fact, it really just makes me want to put in DevilDriver or Lamb Of God...

Meh, typical hardcore nonsense.

These guys inexplicably opened up for Iced Earth in 2004. The crowd hated them. All but booed them off the stage. Of course the music styles of Trivium and Iced Earth totally clash, so what did they expect.

The singer came off like a whiney little bitch cause the crowd wasn't into it. The crowd was small, and he could see me looking right at him with a bored-as-hell look on my face.

Then he pretty much ordered the crowd to start a mosh pit and knock each other around. Then someone said something to the effect of "you suck," and the singer, without missing a beat, said "and especially hit whoever said that."

So, yeah, my opinion of Trivium is pretty low.

Yeah, I remember Randy Blythe being interviewed on a local rock station around here (we live in Bristol, and Lamb of God's base of operations is Richmond, VA; funny story, I met him at the local mall while he was waiting on his woman outside the bathroom, lol :p) and they asked him what he thought of people calling Trivium "the next Metallica" and he said something to effect of "I don't recall anyone projectile vomiting when 'Ride the Lightning' was released.":D
