I liked it! it's one of my guilty pleasures, sure it's inferior to parts 1 & 2 but this was fun! Richard Pryor was kind of funny in it, the best parts where when Superman after he touched that kryptonite he gets drunk at a bar and the part where the sister of the bad guy gets sucked in the machine and turned into a freaky "Dot Matrix"-esque fembot.

Sorry to rain on your parade but the 3rd installment just went downhill IMO. Bringing in Richard Pryor and straying away from what made the first 2 great movies..... As for #4 dont get me started...

IMO, the only thing that redeems Superman III from being complete crap, is the Superman vs. Bad Superman fight in the junkyard. That scene, I found very enjoyable.

As for the rest of the film? Medicore is a word I would use to describe. Definately nothing to write home about, but overall better than the dreadful Superman: IV: The Quest for Peace for sure.

Superman 3 is GREAT on paper - the concepts are really wonderful, IMO.

The movie has a lot to be desired though - the concepts weren't adapted well to screen, and I'm not exactly sure why. I blame the director, and try to imagine what the script would have looked like with someone like Aronofsky directing it.

Again - I LOVE the concepts in Superman 3 - smartly drafted.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The Bad Superman was cool, but the ending sucked, and the Robert Vaughn character was a piss-poor attempt at a Lex Luthor replacement.

The only thing going for it was it wasn't nearly as bad as the fourth installment.

I already have 1 and 2 - which in my opinion are the only ones worth owning. And Amen to the "Smallville" bit.

i tried watching this a number of months ago and was shocked by the overall tackynes of it, especially the cyborg abomination at the end

I bet some former kids in the 80's here were frightened of that cyborg, and didn't you all think when Vera the bad chick turned into the robot, she looked like Dot Matrix from "Spaceballs"?

Aside from the Bad Superman vs. Good Superman fight (which was just awesome and well done), Superman 3 is a train wreck. Robert Vaughn's character was a rip off of Lex Luthor, which was just unneccesary because Supes has a rather large catalog of villains to choose from (how about Brainiac or Darkseid?). Richard Pryor was unneeded in the franchise.

Not to mention that Richard Lester's vision of "silly Metropolis" in the beginning of the film is far removed from what Metropolis is supposed to be. If he wanted slapstick he should have done a comedy and stayed away from Superman.

But where else are you going to see a woman fall into some computer circuitry and morph into a killer cyborg who shoots death rays out of her fingertips?

I thought Richard Pryor was great in this film - I love the scene where he's wearing the big floppy hat when he's getting pissed up with the security guard.
