What is your favourite single of the year so far, talk about them here and if you want leave a link to it. Here are my picks from this year right now.

Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me by The Pipettes (http://s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1ARJM89LC7GW90WIL4VWH36OR7)

I heard a few Pipette songs before and thought they were pretty enjoyable, then kind of dismissed them. Now, with the three girls finally releasing a proper full album this year, they released this great single which makes me want to grab the album as soon as it is available. The loud drums, the pure 50s pop feel to it and the great vocals make this my favourite single of the year right now.

Maneater by Nelly Furtado (http://anonym.to/?http://s51.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1OIAC401CNZOS07JQ88ITXLM6N)

This song is getting released in Europe right now, while Promiscuous Girl is being promoted over here in Canada/USA. Promiscuous Girl is a pretty average track, but this one completely blows it away. The chorus of the song is so damn great and catchy, and the beat is nice. I wouldn't be surprised if this became a huge single, it has the potential.

These are my two favourites at the moment, I have a lot more I can name but these are getting a lot of plays from me at the moment

I just downloaded those songs...I love 'em! Especially 'Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me', from what seems to be a Shirelles-esque band. Can't wait to hear more from them. When does the album come out?

someguy,

Can you post those links to the mp3s of the songs again? The links aren't working anymore, and since my computer got wiped out, I'd like to have these songs on my comp again. I can't find them on a file sharing program.

Thanks.

Just for you Heart Collector, some more singles

Wigwam by Wigwam (http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1KFY4JCH4HI333FT1NGNMB1U8X)

This is a duo that's made up with a UK pop star from years ago called Betty Boo and Alex James (the bassist from Blur). I thought I would have hated this song because of how silly (read: retarded) it is, but it's just a kind of guilty pleasure. The two of them claim that their sound is going to be the sound of 21st century pop, and this song doesn't prove that but it still is good.

Song With a Mission by The Sounds (http://s53.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=247AYYN7IXSVC2NYQ0NN1REW6U)

Yeah, they're trying hard has hell to be Blondie but I don't care. I think the backing vocals really did it for me on this song, I liked their last album but their new one is just very plain. This is the only good song on it, and of course it's their single.

Here's a couple of mine:
The Wallflowers - "God Says Nothing Back" (http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=3277C005314D061E)

Sepultura - "Convicted in Life" (http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=250AF2C970A94643)

Foxy Foxy - Rob Zombie

This song is so Zombie and at the same time not. I love singing along to this track and sometime in the future I'd love to get down to this on a dance floor.

I loathe the entire new Zombie album (that song in particular)... And I'm a big fan of his other stuff...

"Trains to Brazil", Guillemots (http://s65.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2CYXNYF43S4L027THVD8DDW1RC)

I got this song recently as a free download from iTunes out of pure curiousity, and it's certainly a pleasant surprise. Take a listen, and I think you'll agree with me that it's one of the best 2005 singles so far.

Sorry about that. I'll try to get an MP3 downloaded tomorrow, but I'll remember that next time, someguy. Thanks!

EDIT:

Here's the MP3. Please enjoy in good health. :)

For this one I am going to link to the music video since I think it is pretty awesome.

Far From Home by Tiga (www.partizan.us/nn/TIGAfinal.mov)

Link takes a bit of time to load, but it's a really fun dance/pop song. The video makes the song way better though.

By single, do you mean a song that's actually been released as a single or any song from a 2006 album that we think would make a great single?

therealjohng

So far the best single I've heard this year has to be Tool's "Vicarious".

I mean the former, songs actually released as a single

Of the ones I could download from above, I really enjoyed the Wallflowers single.

In that case, here are two singles that have caught my ear...I'm by no means an authority on music and the following may not be anything new or original musically but I am really digging these two...

The Radio Dept. - The Worst Taste in Music (http://download.yousendit.com/3EADDF61365A1DF7)

Carina Round - Come To You (http://http://download.yousendit.com/5067B392667C1A49)

And as mainstream as it is, I'm really digging the Neverending White Lights single The Grace (feat Dallas Green of alexisonfire). I think it was released late last year though.

I'm gonna put some more up

White Unicorn by Wolfmother (http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0W6JF0FN9AUX40TW5Q4V39IJY9)

I like this record a lot, it's just some great rock music.

Promiscuous Girl by Nelly Furtado (http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1MVQ9TTVH7FSZ031D4H7VQ4FMR)

It grew on me I guess, I didn't like this song at first.

Far From Home by Tiga (http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3659QZRQJKH5L3E5V9RZELQ47W)

An mp3 in case anyone wants it

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley (http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=03YJEKGOTHFGN2L883KBBPX6GB)

This is a collaboration between DJ Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo, this song actually got #1 in the UK by downloads alone I think.

Maybe Sparrow by Neko Case (http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0J60FC2WTB1ZG1Z8Q6FF5LAUSS)

Neko Case is an amazing singer, her new album is great and I'm glad that one of my favourite tracks on the album became her single.

If I hear Gnarls Barkley one more time I'm gonna rip my own ears off and cry until I piss my pants.

I'm temping at Manchester Town Hall at the moment, and it came on the SAME radio station 8 fucking times in as many hours today.

It's catchy...BUT C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poor you, that song is getting 0 airplay over here.

At least it's a decent song, unlike Nickelback *shudder*

I still don't see what's so wrong with Nickelback... The new album especially...

The album of Nickleback that has Breathe on it, that album owns anything else they've done. Photograph and Animals are not bad songs, they are just played way too much. WAY. TOO. MUCH.

Why does the U.S. pick up on all the BAD Canadian fads?

Hey, remember that they gave us Good Charlotte first. We owe it to them.

As for my favorite single of 2006 so far, I'm into Buck 65's Blood of a Young Wolf. Not sure entirely when it came out as a single, but it was in the december/january period, so it could have very well been 2006.

That and Vicarious. Just heard it today.

I found this while searching AOL tonight:

Faster Kill Pussycat (http://us.video.aol.com/audio.full.adp?mode=0&pmmsid=1469049)

Now, I know many of you on here think dance music is shit, but I love this song and I can't believe Brittany Murphy is singing it. She has a great voice.

Good choice, I've been listening to this album for a couple weeks and this song is easily still my favorite on it.

Hey Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken by Camera Obscura (http://download.yousendit.com/0E4081074ED602C9)

This band has a very Belle and Sebastian type sound, and I love the single. The organ parts are great and the chorus is catchy as fuck.

Smiley Faces by Gnarls Barkley (http://download.yousendit.com/C19D22733E75F158)

This is way way way better than Crazy. If you didn't think that Gnarls Barkley were too good based on their first single, listen to this one and you might change your mind.

Diva Lady by The Divine Comedy (http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3P7PH56LFDZ9T2K0JK9T3ACZXY)

This is an awesome album first off, I'm sure it will be in my best of list at the end of the year. Mother Dear would have been a way better single, but this is great too. I highly recommend this album.

I wonder when it became such that deciding what the best single is meant deciding whats the most reprehensible, bad, yet catchy song we could think of.
