I'm just wondering because I watched the Third man today, and I loved the shot of Alida Valli walking past Joseph Cotten at the end. It is one of my favourite final shots along with the ending of the evil dead. Have other schomes got fave. final shots?

I have to agree on the fight club final shot. The music, the buildings falling and Marla and Narrator finally finding each other makes for one damn affecting ending

I also loved the end of Rushmore with everyone dancing to the great song.

Wes Anderson seems to take time over his final shot, Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums, all have great pay offs. They are all in slow motion as well, which is becoming an Anderson Trade mark....interesting to see it this continues?

American Beauty also have a fantastic final shot, though the dialogue certainly contributes to that as well.

Magnolia is I remember also had a remarkable finish, with Melora Walters just sitting on her bed and a guy (who we presume is Jim) sitting in front of her. Though its the smile that sneaks onto her face that makes the moment special.

When you say which is the best final shot, please don't say what the shot shows because someone may not have seen that movie and probably doesn't want it spoiled!!!!

And besides, if I say my favourite final shot is from, say, The Godfather, everyone who has seen it will know what I'm talking about, and those who haven't seen it probably don't want to know anything about it...
now I'm gonna go watch Being There... no wait, I already know how it ends http://www.joblo.com/ubb/mad.gif

When Clarence, Alabama & little Elvis stroll along the beach at sunset in Mexico.
Hey, I know they lied, stole and killed people along they way of dumping off a half million $$ in mob-cocaine in Hollywood, but they loved each other, and that's enough.

Also, for endings.

Iron Giant
Jurassic Park T-rex(BEAUTIFUL)
Spiderman(I love that shot on the pole)

That movie would be Donnie Darko I believe.

My vote goes to Ravenous. The music and the way the camera pulls out is flawless.

Another one is Trainspotting. Ewan McGregor running with Underworld playing.

The ending is a bit anti-climactic, but the final image is one of the most beautifully composed and creepy shots I have ever seen.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA

Robert De Niro takes a tote from the opuim pipe and lays back on the bed... then it hits him. Freeze frame.

THE ROAD WARRIOR

Camera pulls back from a solitary Max, as the caravan pulls away.

It hasnt been mentioned yet:

Network. The camera stays still in almost a freeze frame on Howard Beale's body, and in the screens above ads for different children's breakfast cereal and brands of soda. Brilliant last shot.

As much as im not a big fan of the movie Resident Evil had easily the most kick ass final shot ive seen in a movie in years.

RESIDENT EVIL

Alice cocks the shotgun she find in a deserted police car as the camera pulls back to find the whole city in bloody ruin with no one to be seen and the music has wicked beat to it.

T3 had a great final shot as well, gotta love the Terminator skulls light going buried in the snowy ash of nuclear winter!

I don't know if I could pick out the best final shot ever, or even my favorite, but the final shot in Citizen Kane has got to be up there.
