CALABRESE
We recommend a good Italian meal complemented by some carbonated holy water before you check out these purveyors of all things evil, occult, and nightmarish. It just might save your neck. The three brothers Calabrese — Jim, Bobby, and Dave — have made a name for themselves nationally, in horror B-movie circles at least, by writing and recording Misfits-style paeans to vampires, ghosts, and ghouls (expect lots of “whoaah, ohh, whoaah”s), as evidenced on the siblings’ latest full-length record, 13 Halloweens. Their leather-and-spiderwebs stage show, augmented by any number of freakish and funny swag throw-outs, and coupled with their cheery demeanors and foppish hair styles, has made these three heartthrobs for the blood-and-guts black eyeliner set. For these boys, every day really is Halloween. Hey, even Hot Topic is on the Calabrese bandwagon, featuring the band on its Web site last December. — Brendan Joel Kelley
