Dog Fashion Disco is my absolute all time favorite band, and with the impending release of their upcoming CD Adultery on the horizon, I figured now would be a better time than any to post about these guys. Don't be turned off by the name. DFD is quite possibly one of the most awesome bands I have ever heard. They started off in the mid-90s playing ska-ish music, and they have slowly evolved. When their third CD The Embryo's in Bloom, they started playing their style of music that everyone compare to Mr. Bungle (and I hate when people use that comparison). They played some very interesting, avante garde heavy type music. They have been slowly evolving, and they have finally created their masterpiece that is Adultery. They've pretty much changed completely from their last album, but only for the better. The new album shows so much versatility. They dive into many different genres including metal, jazz, country, satanic chant (heh), and porno groove. Every single song is completely different, and they're all absolutely amazing. Anyway, some of you guys might recognize these guys from the work they did on Paul Schrader's version of the Exorcist prequel. The scored the last third of the film, and also did the ending theme Satan's March (and they have a song that sounds quite similar on their new album called Dead Virgins Don't Sing). These guys deserve loads of recognition, and I predict that sometime soon they are going to absolutely take off. You owe it to yourself to check them out. Their new CD comes out April 4th, and if you're ever in the store and pass by the CD, give it a listen. You might like (or even love) what you hear.

Why do you hate the Mr. Bungle comparisons? They sound like Mr. Bungle. The vocalist sounds exactly like Mike Patton on all of their pre-Anarchists material. Anarchists sounds like a cross between the first Bungle record and FNM's Angel Dust. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Dog Fashion Disco. I'll probably be picking up Adultery. However, you can't deny the Bungle-ness of it all.

I can't deny that a lot of their material does sound like Mr. Bungle. Mr. Bungle is also a band that I absolutely love. I just think that the comparison is overused, and DFD really deserves to be recognized in their own right. But yeah, I guess Mr. Bungle would be the easiest comparison to describe the band to someone who's never heard them (although everyone hasn't heard of Mr. Bungle, either).
