For me it is the extended.

Resons.
1. DTS.....Sounds so much better.
2. They are overall better movies and really make you more aware of the charectors. More story.

Extended because the story is able to be told in much greater detail then in the originals.

The extended versions are great, but if I'm going for rewatchability, I'd rather watch the theatrical cuts.

The Extended cuts are Masterpieces and should be enjoyed all in one day. I did it one Saturday with my mom and it was one of the best days ever. Really makes you realize how great the movies are and how they are basically one movie.

hard to say actually, extended edition had better picture and sound but the theatrical cuts seemed right for me as well.

All extended apart from Fellowship. I thought they dragged the Shire scenes on too long amongst other things. But everything else is cool.

Oh, definitely the extended versions. More intimate character moments, and more from the books. Though I have to say, even the regular versions are impressive enough on their own.

I guess I'll be in the minority and say theatrical cuts. I hated the extended cuts - I'd knock down my ratings a point for each extended film.

Definitely the extended. For starters, the DVDs' extras are freakin' awesome: 4 feature-length commentaries. Plus, the extra scenes add to the epic-ness of the movies and the story.

The extended cuts give you so much more explanation such as the Laughlorien seen that was much longer and the gifts that were given was explained in detail.

I have not cracked the cases on the originals since I got the Extended.
