Hey all...

I'm thinking about GROWING our online movie community here (we have over 25,000 members now) by creating a section as part of this board that would allow EACH OF YOU to have your own PROFILE PAGE (a la MySpace.com), with all of the typical bells and whistles that you would expect (age, location, hobbies, favorites, etc...), as well as cool stuff like your own blogs, your own BUDDY LISTS, etc... as well as MOVIE-FOCUSED stuff like a section to add:

- All of your favorite TOP 10 lists
- Your own movie reviews (which would be ranked, etc...)
- Your own image stash (up to 5MB each)
- Movie journal (in which you'd write what movies you watched that day, ratings, etc...)
- Your DVD collection

That's all I've come up with right now...what do you guys think? Would this interest you? If so, what do you like about it and what else do you think would be cool?

The schmoe gallery does not do giving pictures justice. This would make "Top 10 Movies" threads obsolete, if you were curious about someones you would just go look.

JoBlo revealed this sweet deal to me in one of the emails a few weeks ago and I really loved the idea. ;) :p

I think that this project WILL work. It's just so cool. JoBlo.com just keeps getting better and better. This will only help expand the community in many ways, and hopefully attract new members. Very nice deal.

At first the thought of another myspace account I thought would suck, but now that you're mentioned a more movie driven account where we can write our reviews, add top 10 lists etc, that's a brilliant idea. Something I haven't heard of in other movie sites and I think it could potentially be pretty kickass.

Even if it costs a couple bucks, I would actually consider chipping in a couple bucks for that.

I like the idea alot.

I think the Daily Movie journal is a great idea. I'd like to look back after an entire year and see a daily account of each film I watched. The 2006 Movie Journal Thread (in the Current Movie Talk , shameless plug) is great.

One slight change... make it a top 20 or 25 favorite films. Ten just isn't enough. It's sort of like YMDB, which gives the option of a top 20.

MySpace blows, but the idea for JoSpace JOBLOS!

And in case you weren't aware of the recent word update, "joblo" has now become the official word to be used when something kicks major ass (so basically the opposite of something that "blows").

For example, when I say, "The idea of MyJoblo.com fucking joblos!", what I'm actually saying is that my ass hurts from being kicked so much, hence the ass-kickery-ness (yeah, that's a word too!) of the sitcheeation.

Oh, and that's another word update. "Sitcheeation" is now the official slang form of the word "situation".

Yes, the wheels are officially "in motion" on the MyJoBlo.com project (working title), and if all goes well, we should have something very cool to show you guys/girls by the end of this summer.

In the meantime, feel free to toss out any UNIQUE ideas of things you'd like to see added to that sort of community section...preferably MOVIE-RELATED -- we're already adding a section that would allow each person to input their DVD COLLECTIONs into their profile, etc...

Alot of Schmoes are on Flixter which is like a MySpace for films (bright concept that has a few setbacks). You might want to check it out for ideas on how to run MyJoBlo. I totally dig the DVD collection bit. Good call.

I think the idea of having a movie/television database incorporated into this, sort of like imdb where every film had it's own page. This would make it easier for the Golden Schmoe awards seeing we could just take the highest rated movies of that year... It would have something similar to IMDB's top 250, but this way it would be the schmoes top 250. The schmoes could find their own goofs and submit them, our favorite quotes, cool shit like that.

This way we could have little navigation buttons on each movie/television page that we could easily rate or add it to our top 10 lists, owned lists, just watched lists, etc. etc.

It would make this job a lot harder and more time consuming to prepare and develop, but I for one would love it a lot more with these features. :)

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but have a spot on the 'my'frontpage where it'll title recent movies seen, and with a short excert from the review that you've written for what you can view the full review once you've clicked on the hyperlinked title. Maybe the ?/10 score next to the title too.

I'd love to read other peoples recent 10 movies they saw and read their reviews too.

It's almooooooooost done, boys and girls. We're going through the "testing" phase right now, with only a couple of sections left to finish. I don't like to put deadlines out there, in case we don't hit them, but I am hoping that we might see something LIVE in the next month or so, and all of the BOARD MEMBERS will get to be the first people to test it (you all will be receiving an email on how to access your PROFILES, etc...).

It's looking pretty sweet. Most of the members of the JoBlo.com team have already tested it and they're all diggin' it. Can't wait...this should be fun.
