Just thought I'd let anyone that cares know that Deep Discount Dvd has another Criterion sale. And to all of our Canadian schmoes, they have apparently opened up a Canadian store as well.
Click this link to check out the sale. (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/studio.cfm?mainStudioid=2)
The Sale ends on April 10th I believe, so hop to it.

thanks alot dude. i just picked up some titles i've been putting off getting since it's more fun to buy two regular dvds than one criterion. haha.

Niice....i ordered 9 on the 1st (when it started). And it had said ending April 6th, and i was a little ticked off because that means i wouldn't be able to order with my upcoming paycheck so i could have a little extra money to play with. So ending April 10th is nicer.
But yeah, i ordered these on saturday:
Tanner '88
Last Wave
Ali: Fear Eats the Soul
Lady Vanishes
Amarcord
George Washington
My Own Private Idaho
Short Cuts
Andrei Rublev
and i plan to order quite a bit more come Friday this week.

I was going to get a few of them... Until I noticed they didn't have The Rock, which is the one I want most (my original copy was one of the defective ones).

Thanks for pointing that out Tayzlor! I must have missed it...
I'll be getting Red Beard, High and Low, Stray Dog, and Akira Kurosawa's "Dreams". The latter isn't a Criterion, but I may as well get it anyway.

Well, it's not really OOP.

there are far better films on there that you should check out rather than the Rock

While I agree with you on that statement, you have to understand that not everyone's gonna like the films Criterion puts out. Now if Criterion put out the original Godzilla collection, then Tyler would be all over it.

I would pay well over any money I have right now to get a complete Godzilla film collection (well, with English subtitles, damn Toho editions), Criterion or no.;)
And it's not that I don't like the Criterion films, it's just that I need to see more of them. I'm sure I'd love quite a few of them, but I'd prefer to watch them as to pay some of the high prices first.

i'd go with Ran or Mr. Arkadin...Arkadin for the main reason that is the only upcoming rellease that is at full discount

Yeah I thought the same for Arkadin. Its three discs and its an amazing price. Im gonna read upon Welles more and then decide.
F for Fake or Arkadin would be total blind buys.
Thanks for the advice :D

I will definitely take advantage of this sale, but I have a question for those who have already done so: did you guys select the free shipping (5-10 business days) or the $6 shipping (3-5 business days)?

I've only bought one thing from Deep Discount Dvd and I selected the free shipping. For some reason it took like a month for my dvd to come it. I was so pissed.

i actually put to two separate orders and i chose the one where i ordered only like 4 with free shipping and the other where i ordered like 14 with the $6 shipping. $6 for shipping seems a lot less when the price is already quite a bit. I ordered the quick shipping one on saturday night, it came in on Wednesday already. THe other is still yet to come in which is understandable.

I just ordered the following Criterions:
Brazil
La Strada
Life of Brian
Videodrome
I would've love to purchase more, but there's only so much money that I have. I selected the $6 shipping, so hopefully I'll receive them soon.
Thanks for the info on this sale, HFM! I've been dying to get my hands on Brazil for a good price. :D

Hey guys, I come to you for advice.
I'm stuck between a few of these and I was wondering which one was the biggest snag, because I've seen most of them but I don't know how the features are:
M
THIEVES' HIGHWAY
THE THIRD MAN
LA STRADA
RIFIFI
Thanks.
I really wish this sale hadn't been this month, since I could not be more economically unstable. :(
I just got out of a job and am looking for a new one, so I still have my two weeks notice, but I'm working fewer hours now which translates into much fewer dvds.

I'm in agreement with HFM. If you can only buy one Criterion, buy M. M is a must-have in anyone's personal Criterion collection.

yea....i would agree with M from those if you only could get one. If you could get more, i'd follow with Third Man, then Rififi, then Thieves' Highway, and then Strada....but yeah, M if you could only get one.

How often does this Criterion sale happen?

SamSanchez

hopefully more often.
Last time was at the end of January and it was 40% off. So hopefully this pattern of every two months continues.
