View Full Version : A Study of Horror

So, my twin brother and I have been working on this idea for a horror movie. What it really is, is a collection of four short horror films with no connection to each other. However, the basic idea is that each film depicts a different main subgenre of horror. There is a comedic horror film, a suspenseful horror film, a supernatural horror film and an all around disturbing horror film. The film is being called A Study of Horror.
We have a pretty good idea for each of the plots, but only one script is completely finished so far. Seeing as how the other three scripts are subject to change until their completion, I only feel comfortable revealing one of the plot lines to you guys for the time being. So, the deal is, I'll tell you guys the plot and you tell me what you guys think about it. If enough people like it, I'll go ahead and post the script.
The first script that we have finished is the comedic script. It involves two college students, named Sean and Ricky, that happen to be driving around smoking pot, when out of the blue, zombies begin running rampant through the countryside. Stoner humor and zombies ensue.
**Word of Warning: Each completed short script has been and will be registered with the WGA before I even post the logline. So, if you don't mind getting your ass sued off, by all means, steal my shit. Thank you! ^_^**

Anyways, "A Study Of Horror" sounds interesting. Though the "subgenres" you chose seem odd. "Comedic" and "Disturbing" don't sound as a 'subgenre'. I thought you were going to do "A werewolf short. A vampire short. A zombie short. A ghost short." The ones you picked sound unbalanced (some of them are genre mixes and others are subgenres), I'd give a second thought if you're going to choose either subgenres or genre hybrids.
But the idea of shorts depicting the different sides of horror sounds very interesting (not so much if it has been done before but I can't think of a title that does this the way you plan to, all those horror anthologies seemed to be just that). Could be very . . . what's the word, insightful if done right and with a real horror fan behind it. Be sure to stuff horror homages (not rip-offs) and you could have a great thing.

Hmm... I see what you mean. Well, by comedic I mean campy, if that at all helps. I definately believe that is a major subgenre, especially today. And by disturbing horror I mean more along the lines of the Saw movies, Hostel, Wolf Creek, the orginal TCM, Cannibal Holocaust, House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects etc. Moreso, movies having to do with torture and people that are essentially just in really fucked up (but at least close to realistic) situations. I personally believe that, while this may not be the most established subgenre, it is by far one of the most interesting subgenres, especially in the contemporary horror world as it is today.
Oh yeah, and I put that disclaimer at the bottom just because my brother is really paranoid about that kind of stuff and didn't want me posting anything about it unless I had a disclaimer of some sort. Not to put it off on him or anything... But it's the truth.

Aiming for twenty minutes to a half hour each. The zombie script itself is quite longer than 30 pages, mainly due to the fact that almost the entire script is dialogue. I've read through it and timed it, though, and it reads a little bit over a half hour. So, the scripts are a decent length but they're a quick read.

I'm having the file cleaned, as we speak. The first short's title is "Shitty Zombies" but it's just a working title until we get the rest of the shorts done.

Yeah, it's just a line in the script that I thought was funny. Anyhow, I keep making revisions on the script, but I assure you, this script will be up soon enough.
