What's This "Marvel Zombies" All About?

Alright, here's the deal, I don't normally read graphic novels, but I've just recently read an article in Wizard magazine about a Marvel Zombies comic book.

Is anyone reading this? It sounds kind of cool. And could you possibly fill me in on what this whole thing's about?

Thanks.

Spider Man actually throws his ARM at Magneto.

Hack 08-24-2006 08:42 AM

How's the artwork in the series? Is it gory at all?

NuclearMisfit 08-25-2006 10:13 PM

Its done by Robert Kirkman so yeah its pretty awesome. I have yet to pick up a copy because i cant find them in stores. You should check out The Walking Dead also by Kirkman, its a real page turner.

Is the Punisher still alive in this universe?

I'd love to see an issue dedicated to him going on an all, out balls-out war with the rest of the Marvel Zombies. Just picture him shooting down Zombie-Spider-Man with a high powered rifle......... :)

Also, is Dr. Strange part of this universe, it seems to me, due to his powers he could remain unaffacted. (But then again, they did kill the Surfer.... )

Also, do we have any indication of how this Marvel Zombie thing is affecting non-earthbound Marvel characters?

Hack 09-15-2006 11:33 AM

no idea, i'm still looking where i can pick these series up.

Yeah, you wouldnt think the Surfer, Dr. Strange, Wolverine, the Hulk (in Hulk form) and Thor would be able to get infected. It must not be a virus that starts the outbreak. Also guys like Galactus, Mephisto, Dr. Doom, and Ghost Rider (in Ghost Rider form) should not ba able to get zombified.

Ender 09-21-2006 04:35 AM

There really is no logic to who does and does not become a zombie in this series, basically it just suspends any kind of sense and zombifies whoever it wants for the sake of the story, which is probably the best way to do it.

In a nutshell it's a miniseris about an alternate earth (featured originaly in an ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR story) where all of world's superheroes and villains have become hungry zombies who have wiped out the human population. The zombies retain their superhuman powers, as well as their memories, powers of speech, etc. Which is actually one of the things that makes the series as disturibing as it is. The characters are still themselves, they still remember their old lives, they just can't help that they're monsters now.

Although it was wildly succesful and most people found it darkly funny, I didn't care much for the whole thing. The idea of Spider-Man eating Mary Jane and Aunt May (among the least unsettling story points I might add) just crapped all over my birthday cake as far as Marvel Zombies was concerned. And I tend to think that zombies are becomimg something of a fad in comics right now (as Cinescape said recently, zombies are the new vampires). Still, most people liked it, so if it sounds like your thing, give it a go, there's a trade out of it by now I'm sure.

Hack 09-22-2006 01:17 PM

I have to get this series..nuff said.

newbreedleader 10-01-2006 12:24 AM

Also if your a regular comic reader, might wanna pick up the current Exiles books. Zombie Wolverine from this series has become a regular character apparently.

Jim H 10-29-2006 10:39 PM

It's noticeably different from the normal series.

***MINOR SPOILERS***

Galactus shows up, and no one recognizes him.

Probably my favorite part of series is when the zombies tell Galactus how they're soooo hungry. He just looks at them and says something like "YOU hunger? YOUU HUUUNGER!?!??!?!?!" and is really angry. Pretty funny stuff. Quite entertaining series. Also liked how Black Panther is badass even missing two limbs.

***END***

It's a 5 issue limited series, so don't expect an epic storyline or anything.

Don't forget the upcomig sequel "Army of Darkness/Marvel Zombies"

It should be out in a month or two. I normally leave all the horror comics for my bro to buy, but i think i'll be getting this one. I can't really turn it up

EvilDeadGirl 01-28-2007 03:36 PM

The Marvel Zombies is the shiiiiit! Love the graphic novel.

So has there been any word with the Army of Darkness/Marvel Zombies thing?

Asa_Phelps 01-28-2007 10:32 PM

Wait . . . so it's superheroes, but they're all zombies? I swear man, comic books and their various universes are like soap opera stories.

I might actually look into this. I recently bought 5 issues of Walking Dead and they were fantastic. Wish they were in colour though.

poopontheshoes7 01-30-2007 09:08 AM

Awesome fucking book! I loved it. To sort though:( I love how Hulk only turns to Hulk when he's hungry, not angry. Great stuff. Hilarious.

ncc1701 01-31-2007 08:24 AM

This past summer I finally got into the Ultimate universe (and was impressed), and stumbled upon Marvel Zombies. The cover art was amazing, and was a fun read. I have yet to pick this up in trade, however it is on my list.

Casual fans might find this to be a hard stand alone read, you'd have to read the correlating Ultimate FF (or use wikipedia). I'm excited about the AoD/MZ crossover and should provide more than enough irreverent humor and zombi-ness.

thegalorian 02-17-2007 11:42 AM

theres a sequal coming out called: ARMY OF DARKNESS VS THE MARVEL ZOMBIES!!!! I CANT WAIT!

NuclearMisfit 02-22-2007 12:37 PM

I was just at the bookstore looking through the comic book section, normally I have to order the Walking Dead comics and they hardly have anything I like, and there in all its gorey goodness sat the first Marvel Zombies collection. Oh yeah!!!!!.

Cant wait for the Evil Dead vs Marvel Zombies. Although Ash might be in trouble.

Ratlehed 03-09-2007 09:15 PM

Picked up Army of Darkness/Marvel Zombies today. Its not too bad. They also re-released the Marvel Zombies titles so people can get them again to go with the new story.

The Army of Darkness story is a prequel to how the superheros get turned into zombies.

Eh ... doesn't matter I found with all the hype for AoD v. MZ to be underwhelming.
