Tom Waits

I haven't listened to the man's music for ages and am now discovering it all over again.

Any fans around this place? Supposedly he's going to tour this summer and hopefully around Europe as well!

I haven't heard any of his pre-swordfishtrombones stuff, can any of you recommend with what to start with?

There are periods where I immerse myself in his music.

If you haven't heard anything pre-"Swordfishtrombones", start with "Closing Time". Martha, off that album, is probably THE most amazing song ever written. No, it is.

i personally love blue valentine, which i'm pretty sure is pre-swordfishtrombones.

his cover of somewhere is pure perfection and my all-time favourite version of the song...and kentucky avenue is a masterwork.

small change is a great album too.

It's tough to think of any album that achieves genius on every level like Bone Machine does throughout.

bone machine is my favorite.

dirt in the ground is just... amazing.

the heart of saturday night is really good/underrated album of his.

My favorite album of his is "Blood Money", itīs like nothing out there. Misery is the river of the world...

Off his pre-Swordfishthrombone stuff itīs more certain songs that I dig, "Tom Traubertīs Blues" is great for instance. Simply put, the man rules!

Superplasmatron 05-10-2008 04:05 PM

Waits is my number 2 right behind the person I named my screen name after, I've yet to see him and he remains the only act on my bucket list I haven't crossed off yet. One day dammit.... One day. Now if only he would our more often the haleys comet....

Oh my fave is blue valentine but closely followed by The Black Rider

twisted_state 02-25-2013 03:00 AM

Rain Dogs, especially Anywhere I Lay My Head. Just love his voice in this track
