Boardwalk Empire

Quote:

HBO is building a "Boardwalk Empire" with a series order for the Martin Scorsese-directed pilot.

The premium cable network has picked up 11 episodes of the period drama, bringing the total order to 12 hours, including the pilot.

Production on the series is slated to begin this fall for a 2010 premiere.

Written by Terence Winter (The Sopranos), Empire is set in 1920 at the dawn of Prohibition and chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. Empire is also a look at the history of Atlantic City's boardwalk; from its origins as a quiet seaside resort to the casino empire it is today. Based on the book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City" by Nelson Johnson.

Alongside Buscemi, others in the cast include Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) as Buscemi's G-man nemesis, Michael Pitt as his second-in-command, Emmy winner Kelly MacDonald (Trainspotting) as his love interest, and Stephen Graham (Public Enemies) as Al Capone.

Scorsese and Winter are executive producing the series with Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Tim Van Patten. Scorsese is expected to continue to be creatively involved and may direct another episode of Empire, subject to his availability.

In addition, the cast of the pilot also included Michael K. Williams (Omar from The Wire), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Paz de la Huerta (The Limits Of The Control) and Dabney Coleman (Domino, Tootsie.

HBO has been beefing up its slate of original series over the past nine months with orders to new comedies Hung, Bored to Death, How to Make It in America and a drama from the creator of The Wire called Treme.
Jesus Titty-fuckin' Christ!

ilovemovies 09-03-2009 03:32 PM

It's cool that Scorsese is doing a tv series. Even cooler that it takes place in Atlantic City which is about a 90 minute drive from where I live. I hope they are filming there.

outsyder 09-03-2009 04:00 PM

As soon as I saw Buscemi's face, I was sold. Sounds fantastic.

Smiert Spionam 09-04-2009 11:06 AM

Wow.... no one else gives a shit about this? :(

BakeTheMooCow 09-04-2009 12:24 PM

Every name involved made me go

Looks phenomenal.

HurricanesR1 09-04-2009 12:59 PM

Sounds 10x better than that garbage True Blood/Big Love that's currently on HBO.

paul calf 09-06-2009 12:52 PM

echo_bravo 09-06-2009 01:33 PM

Smarmy Douche 09-07-2009 03:45 PM

Hopefully this and Treme pull HBO out of the mound of unmitigated shit its rolling around in right now.

Smiert Spionam 09-29-2009 05:43 PM

Smiert Spionam 12-05-2009 05:23 PM

IMDb has some official pics up.

drc5145 12-06-2009 12:45 AM

This is all sorts of awesome.

I just wish I had fucking HBO to watch it on. :(

HurricanesR1 12-06-2009 01:23 AM

Sounds and looks pretty good.

ilovemovies 12-06-2009 01:48 AM

I know someone who has been casted in this. He only has 2 lines but I'm freaking jealous. He gets to interact with Steve Buscemi.

HurricanesR1 12-07-2009 01:56 AM

With The Pacific, Treme, and Boardwalk Empire all beginning in 2010 on HBO, looks like it will be a good year for the network!

Cosimo 01-01-2010 04:00 PM

after the end of the wire and sopranos, aside from lost i aint been following no yank tv drama as nothing really caught my interest. this and treme i will certainly be downloading as it airs on your turf

Smiert Spionam 01-15-2010 08:13 AM

The first teaser trailer has dropped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm30JBh8pnE

Not starting 'til Fall??? FML! :(

Bourne101 01-19-2010 10:18 PM

This looks amazing. But I agree, Fall is just too far away. :(

DaMovieMan 01-19-2010 10:42 PM

This looks fuckin' ace. As if someone somewhere with impecible taste was dreaming that one of the best directors should get together with the ballsiest TV network, get one of the best character actors out there and do a show about fucking gangsters. Doesn't really get better than this.

Something exciting to look forward to for the fall :D Now i have to go and see what this Treme fuss is about .

Heisenberg 01-20-2010 10:54 AM

Bullshit that we have to wait till fall for this, it sounds awesome.

Cosimo 01-23-2010 05:14 PM

i'm going to have to tune my tv, another amazing teaser

Boardwalk Empire trailer up -WHOA

So here's the trailer for the newest HBO original show coming later in the year. The pilot was produced and directed by MARTIN F'N SCORSESE and will be scripted and such by some of the Sopranos writers.

The trailer is here and I was astounded :)

HBO is officially back. After The Wire ended, not to mention Six Feet Under and The Sopranos I kinda felt they were entering a bit of a dry season. But now, they are officially back. And this looks fucking INCREDIBLE. The visual style evokes the best and most stylish Scorsese films. The show looks to be absolutely epic in its scope. And the cast! What a cast! Steve Buscemi, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amy Macdonald, Michael Pitt, Michael K. Williams, MICHAEL SHANNON! So awesome. And with a legion of directors who are all Six Feet and Sopranos alumni, not to mention the master himself at the helm... this is going to be quite a spectacle.

Smiert Spionam 03-17-2010 07:01 AM

Fuck. Yeah.

Could've used more dialogue though, but I realize its practically a year away....

BakeTheMooCow 03-17-2010 07:41 AM

threads merged.

Katsumoto 03-17-2010 01:00 PM

"All I want is an opportunity"
"This is America, ain't it, who the fuck is stopping you!"

Classic.

BakeTheMooCow 06-11-2010 02:27 PM

Monotreme 06-11-2010 03:12 PM

Holy shit. I am so excited for this show, it's not even funny. Between this and Treme, it really seems like HBO are back on track after The Wire/Sopranos/Six Feet Under got cancelled.

Bourne101 06-11-2010 03:17 PM

Video doesn't seem to be working for me. Hmm...

Dutchman 06-11-2010 03:57 PM

Had no idea Michael Stuhlbarg was going to be in this (for a little while, at least). Cool beans.

The Gunslinger 06-11-2010 10:03 PM

I am for sure looking forward to this. Does anyone know the premiere date? I'm assuming it will be starting after True Blood is over.

The_Soloist 06-11-2010 11:00 PM

Looks great. It reminds me and looks like another HBO Show, Deadwood. You know, gambling and corruption in town.

God I miss Deadwood. Great show. Too bad we didn't get more seasons. Would have been nice to get one more to get an ending. One of HBO's best shows.

I'm assuming the premiere date will be Sept. 19th, since True Blood ends a week before.

Monotreme 06-13-2010 05:07 AM

That's probably right, Gunslinger.

Hucksta G 06-13-2010 04:20 PM

My God, yes!

poopontheshoes7 06-14-2010 02:35 PM

I'm greatly anticipating this one. Looks excellent.

Cop No. 633 06-14-2010 02:47 PM

This and Walking Dead should hold me over until Breaking Bad starts again next March. This looks particularly great... Buscemi as the Boss? Count me the fuck in.

Smiert Spionam 08-18-2010 08:23 PM

Less than a month away!
