According to Coming Soon, Paramount has set the release date for J. J. Abram's Star Trek sequel at June 29, 2012. Considering that this is so far away, there are obviously no other details at this point.

The anticipation begins.... :cool:

Instead of Abrams introducing the Borg or Klingons, I'd like to see him introduce a new race of aliens or something along those lines, since the entire purpose of the Enterprise is to go where no one has gone before.

I would like to see the Klingons make an appearance though. I'm interested how J.J. would portrait them and the cut sequence from the first film, which featured them in a small capacity, was quite cool and patched up a plot hole or two.

As for villains showing up, I’m more concerned about Khan. Should Khan even be involved with the new series? Would Khan even be a villain if he was brought into this new alternate-universe? My problem with certain characters like that returning is, as with George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels, it just makes that huge universe feel a lot smaller and more like winks to the audience.

I'm excited. I liked the first of J.J.'s editions to Star Trek, even if it had a plot very similar to previous movies in the series, it was a nice starting point for the new Enterprise. Not one of the best movies in the saga, but a swell entry just the same.

I was never a Star Trek fan but went to see it opening weekend and had a great time. I was surprised how good Chris Pine and Zach Quinto were in their roles. Great chemistry among the entire cast. Oh and Zoe Saldana gives me a chub everytime I think of her.:o

I could dig Abrams bringing in a new alien race. Everyone and their mother and father knows about the Borg and Klingon.

I just hope it's not a retread of Sin City. It being very well received critically and financially, but a sequel never coming into fruition. AND HOPEFULLY who ever directs the sequel has as much charisma and fun as JJ.

Unlike Sin City, Abrams knew since Star Trek was in production what ideas he had for a sequel, and Star Trek has a lot more money invested in it than the Sin City franchise.

There's also tons more material to work with in the world Star Trek than with the Sin City series, not to mention the fact that all of it is not written entirely by ONE guy who desperately wants to break into Hollywood, but who sucks ass now and has lost his touch---*cough*FrankMiller*cough*

I don't want to see Khan. Khan is a villain from the previous Star Trek franchise and the great villain that we've all come to know and love shouldn't go against Kirk and crew until they're much older. Khan was originally in one of the TV episodes and they brought him back for the movie. Let's get some new villains and characters, not rehash old ones that we've seen before.

I like the idea of a new alien race, though I doubt it'll happen. I get the feeling we'll see Klingons . . . which is just fine with me.

Glad to see we can all agree on the Khan issue.

For those who have watched the TV series, is the Original Series the only saga worth checking out? I was considering Next Generation but imdb hates some of that shows episodes.

Next Generation is some of the best sci-fi tv out there, and i am hardly a trekkie, or trekker or whatever. Original was hokey fun, and deep space nine was watchable cause of terry farrel, and when worf got there in season 4.

And harry mudd, best i remember, was kinda sorta sumthin like a space pimp... and tribbles were little balls of hair that were cute, but multiplied so fast that they over ran the ship so to speak.

Considering I've never seen anything Trek before the new movie came out, and the only Kahn I know of is the Seinfeld reference, I'm good with any and all baddies. I just hope they're not wasted like Eric Bana was as a badass Nero.

This news though far off -is for me is like a little taste of " Qui'Tu "... ahead of time :)

Thanks for the recommendations and input guys! Alright, my Netflix queue is now chocked full of the Original Series and The Next Generations, so that's happening. If I can manage to complete both of those and still hunger some Trek, I'll follow God's plan and check out the rest. Boy oh boy, a year or more of Trek--sounds like I should start buying beverages and maxi-pads to prepare for such a venture.

Ah, very enlighting! I think I've seen pictures of the tribbles online before, but never knew what they were. I just goggled Harry Mudd out of curiosity and that man's a pimp if I ever encountered one. :o

I own all six series of Star Trek on DVD and Deep Space 9 is the best.

1. Star Trek: The Original Series
2. Star Trek: The Animated Series
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation
4. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
5. Star Trek: Voyager
6. Star Trek: Enterprise (Highly recommended that you don't watch this series)
(Horrible acting and the series conflicted with the continuity of the other shows big time).

In any event, you might have different tastes than mine: but personally, my favorites out of the Star Trek franchise is still...

Anyways, if you ever eventually get to watching Deep Space Nine on DVD:
I strongly suggest you start watching by skipping ahead to the cliffhanger (or the last episode) in Season 3 (Deep Space Nine Season 3: Disc 7: episode titled: "Adversary"). http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/The_Adversary_(episode) The majority of the first three seasons of Deep Space Nine is really bad, in my opinion. However, Seasons 4-7 more than make up for it, though. Furthermore, the "Season 3 cliffhanger episode" not only marks a noticeable change in better writing, directing, and production value but it is when the lead character "Commander Sisko" becomes a Captain, too.

As for the next Star Trek sequel in 2012:
I definitely don't want to see Khan. Khan has already been done successfully. Why re-hash something that is already well and good enough as it is?

Personally, I would like to see the Romulans and the Klingons trying to form an alliance in the next movie. In the Original Series episodes: we seen the Romulans having Klingon ships and stuff.

Also, we could have the famous JJ Abram's flashback (that he likes to do), too. Perhaps we could see Nero advancing the Romulan Empire to destroy the Federation (as a fall back plan) if he didn't succeed in his mission of revenge (as we seen at the end of the 1st movie).

Furthermore, with the destruction of planet Vulcan and Nero's possible gift of future advancement to the Romulans: Maybe there will be another Romulan Earth War or something (Which could also involve the Klingons to some capacity).

Perhaps we also might get to see the "Human Klingon First Contact Disaster" that led to decades of war, too. Which could very well send the Klingons running into the Romulan camp (with the new changes within this particular time line), too.

I loved the new Star Trek, Ive never been a huge fan of Star trek though but I have liked some of the movies and Ive never really watched any of the TV Shows although have seen a few episodes of Next Generation and deep Space Nine and I liked what I saw. I like the Klingons and the Borg stuff but Im with Jigsaw I think they should do a new species of Alien because they started a whole new story line and I think they need to take advantage of it.

Bringing in a new alien race is all well and good but there are roughly 540 alien races within the Star Trek franchise (Either mentioned by name or shown on camera).
In fact, there are quite a few alien races that we have only heard by name only but never got to see. I wouldn't mind seeing some of these aliens in the next film (even if they aren't a part of the major plot or anything).

In any event, at least JJ Abrams added a minor alien being called the "Kolaran" in his 2009 movie. You know, that weird alien pirate race from Star Trek Nemesis? Well, JJ Abram's made Scotty's assistant a "Kolaran" named "Keenser".

Personally, I would like to see either the alien race known as the "Brikar" (From the Star Trek New Frontier Novel and Comic Series) or the alien "Mugato" (From The Original Series) or something.

Well, it looks like we are going to get the Gorn in the next movie.
At least that's the rumor, anyways. I actually think it is a pretty cool idea to have the Gorn in Star Trek 2. That is if they make them look ultra cool looking or whatever.

Actually, those Star Trek images are not official covers or anything. I got them from a website that no longer exists, anymore. However, you can download the covers in my following posts if you like, though.

The one major downside is that you have to do the work yourself.

1. Save the cover images at the links provided below.

2. Once the covers are saved to your computer you either have to own or buy a high quality printer. Just do a search on Google and find the right printer geared towards printing DVD covers.

3. Then buy high quality ink jet printing paper or some other recommended paper.

4. Then purchase a bunch of DVD Cases that can hold 7 DVDs per Case.

5. Finally, print out the covers and cut the paper and insert them into the 7 Disc DVD Cases you purchased (once they have arrived in the mail).


Side Note 1:
Make sure after printing the covers: that you measure the spine of the cover (on the paper you printed) before you purchase any 7 Disc DVD Case. Oh, and you might want to get an 8 Disc DVD Case seeing that a good portion of the Star Trek series contain an additional bonus disc. Just makes sure the spine of the 8 Disc DVD Case measures up with the spine on the Cover you printed out.

Side Note 2:
Personally, I haven't done this for my Star Trek DVDs, yet. However, someday when I get more free time, I would definitely like to do this type of thing with my Trek Collection.

Im not sure how Gorn would work in the new film, I just hope he doesnt look like a Power Rangers villain using a bunch of hand gestures and over emoting.

I'm guessing there might be a race of Gorns, and they are going to look like badass giant reptiles. I wouldn't worry about Power Rangers.

I think it's a cool idea. I always remember the Shatner vs Gorn fight in the original series.
