Brad Pitt to star in World War Z

(RTTNews) - Actor Brad Pitt has signed on to star in a film adaptation of Max Brooks' "World War Z" graphic novel.

The announcement was made by Brooks himself at San Diego's Comic-Con. Marc Foster, who previously directed "Quantum of Solace," the latest installment in the "James Bond" series, will direct the new film.

Plan B Entertainment, Pitt's production company, edged out Leonardo DiCaprio's company for the rights to "World War Z" in 2007. They also acquired the rights to the two follow-up graphic novels, "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks."

Brooks revealed that he hopes to have the film out sometime in 2012.
Great news. With The Walking Dead trailer released and this news, I am officially excited. I read the old script that was thrown out, and I though it was pretty solid, so I'm still a little anxious about the story, but as long as it stays pretty close to the book it should be fine.

Doin' one thang and one thang only: .....killin' zombies.

haha nice!:D

Not a big fan of Foster as the director though.

How about a reteaming of Pitt and Fincher???

Reigh Kaufman 07-26-2010 03:38 PM

Kevin MacDonald would have been my choice. A documentarian who can also direct narrative films.

Bring on The Battle of Yonkers!

Fincher is attached to better movies to direct than this.

Gilpesh 07-26-2010 05:43 PM

Anyone else want Brad Pitt to play the pharmaceutical salesman at the south pole?

outsyder 07-26-2010 05:52 PM

This should put it on a somewhat faster track to production. Huzzah.

Preston_79 07-26-2010 06:48 PM

My opinion is that World War Z really isn't that good of a read. The book does though have a great deal of imagination, and it places zombies in all these locations you've never seen them before, and I think it will make a much better movie than book.

That's what I'm waiting to see too!

echo_bravo 05-01-2011 08:38 PM

So the cast for this movie is shaping up beautifully. Mireillie Enos(The Killing) is set to play Pitt's wife. And now it looks like Anthony Mackie is getting cast as well!

The thing that bothers me though is that the film is looking like it will be rated PG 13. That is some absolute bullshit for a zombie film.

World War Z Moving Fast Toward June Start

Quote:

The highly anticipated adaptation of Max Brooks' World War Z, directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), is gearing up for a June production start.

According to ScreenDaily, shooting will begin in Malta. Production will then relocate to the UK and, later, Hungary. Principal photography will last well into the fall.

Brad Pitt is still set to star as a UN researcher gathering stories of the great zombie war. The actor is also producing.

J. Michael Straczynski and Matthew Michael Carnahan penned the script.
Glad to see that they didn't completely toss everything out of J. Michael Straczynski's script, because I personally thought it was excellent. Just hope the PG-13 rumors aren't true.

echo_bravo 03-14-2012 12:57 PM

Apparently this will be coming out in the summer of 2013 now. Probably a smart move on their part.

Bourne101 03-14-2012 01:15 PM

Definitely a good financial decision, but I was quite looking forward to a Christmas day double feature of Brad Pitt taking down zombies and Christoph Waltz and Jamie Foxx taking down slave owning Leonardo DiCaprio.

Oh well.

bigred760 03-14-2012 01:49 PM

It's a shame we have to wait another 6 months before we see this bad boy. But if it needs to wait, it needs to wait. Still looking forward to it.

CuatroDiablos 03-14-2012 02:45 PM

Marc Foster....:confused::(

ThunderStorm 03-14-2012 07:14 PM

Kind of disappointed we have to wait, but whatever is necessary I guess.

Bourne101 06-08-2012 04:26 PM

What the hell is going on with this thing? Hiring Lindelof several months after they stopped shooting to re-write the script, and potentially up to 7 weeks of reshoots? Honestly, how bad can it be? Forster is at least a semi-competent director. Pitt, who doesn't sign on to many bad projects, is the lead. Matthew Michael Carnahan has written 2 decent screeplays and adapted this one from a well-received novel.

echo_bravo 06-08-2012 04:49 PM

What an absolute clusterfuck.

jolanar 06-13-2012 08:26 PM

Wait, Damon Lindelof is writing this now?

Awww.... fuck. There goes any hope of me liking it.

ThunderStorm 06-14-2012 12:08 AM

I really want this movie to be amazing because I thought the book was great, but this is just a complete fucking mess. I still have a little hope, but fuck they need to get their shit together.

fixedMind 06-14-2012 12:29 AM

Fuck Damon Littlelof, I want to piss in his face, why the fuck does hollywood think he is a good writer?

Bourne101 07-13-2012 03:08 PM

So now Drew Goddard and maybe Christopher McQuarrie have been called in to re-write the ending, and Brad Pitt and Marc Forster are no longer speaking to each other (Pitt not only acts in the film, he is producing it as well). Ironically, Pitt is the one who convinced the studio to hire Forster.

On top of all of this, the one thing I wonder is that if the budget is at $170 million (and more now with all the re-shoots), this thing has to be PG-13 right? A PG-13 zombie movie? Get outta here.

Having said all of that, I'm actually still interested to see how this turns out.

Ugh

CuatroDiablos 07-14-2012 08:35 AM

This would have been great material for a mini series.

AspectRatio1986 07-14-2012 08:51 AM

Yeah this blows, Ive been meaning to read the book for awhile.

ThunderStorm 07-14-2012 11:20 AM

I still hope this movie is somehow not a complete piece of shit. Do you think they will still show many of the geopolitical scenes that were so important in the book?

The book is so incredible..

As much as I want to see this film get made..I would also just as much love to see it never happen at all..Kind of like having to put your pet down after it gets seriously hurt or terminally ill..You don't want to do it but you know it's for the best

preview of the trailer.

Silverload 11-05-2012 11:37 PM

Looks like 'I Am Legend part II'. That was a lot of very over the top CGI.

AspectRatio1986 11-06-2012 05:32 AM

Like Silver said....that shitty CGI takes me right out of the movie......I'll wait to judge but IMO that was a huge mistake in I Am Legend as well....shit.

ThunderStorm 11-06-2012 10:53 AM

Yeah hopefully the finished CGI will be better, I really enjoyed the book this looks like it could be a pretty decent Zombie movie, but not necessarily a good WWZ adaption which is disappointing.

CuatroDiablos 11-07-2012 08:00 AM

The book I read had slow moving zombies...WTF is this?

Agreed. My excitement for this just went out the window.:(

Oh well at least we still have the book.

ThunderStorm 11-07-2012 06:58 PM

I think we get the full trailer tomorrow so hopefully we get a better feel for it.

ThunderStorm 11-08-2012 07:07 PM

http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/brad...or-world-war-z

Here is the official trailer guys, and you know what I liked it. Sure it may not be the book but honestly it still looks pretty good. What do y'all think?

Bourne101 11-08-2012 08:05 PM

Doesn't look as bad as I anticipated, given the rumors of on-set troubles, but it still doesn't look all that great.

Bob Loblaw 11-08-2012 08:10 PM

I can deal with running zombies (even though World War Z is ABOUT establishing the rules for zombies, and this doesn't follow a single rule), but it is the gravity defying zombies that makes me shake my head. I can't help but laugh every time I see that ridiculous wave of zombies flowing down the street.

Squid Vicious 11-09-2012 09:10 AM

So, yeah...any interest that I might have had in this movie has gone out the window with that awful-looking trailer.

Can we please just declare a moratorium on zombie-related entertainment?
