What horror films are you watching to celebrate Halloween?
Here is what I plan to watch this month to celebrate Halloween, I wanted to try to watch 31 films in 31 days but with school and life being busy I won't have a chance.
(First watches) The Ugly Grace The House Of The Devil Triangle Pieces Black Christmas (Original) My Bloody Valentine (Original) Silent Night, Deadly Night Frozen Pontypool Splice Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter Let Me In (Hopefully I can make it to see this) (Rewatches) Re-Animator Let Sleeping Corpses Lie Dawn Of The Dead (Original & Remake) Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn The Descent (I need to give it another chance) Dog Soldiers An American Werewolf In London |

I have been sticking to the same every year; Raimi, Romero, Carpenter...any of the recent remakes I didn't hate.
But this year because of my budget (and tastes coincidentally) I'll be digging into the old, crusty, forgotten ones. I picked up a double feature with Carnival of Souls and Horror hotel. I also have The Last Man on Earth with The Last Woman on Earth. Fortunately there's a plethora of bundled horror "classics" readily available. Has anyone bought the 4 Film Favorites of Dracula? That's one I might be getting for a good price. |
THE UGLY is such a great film, thanks for reminding me it's in my collection I am going to re-watch it right now...
1000 |
alot lol
|
I might start the viewing off tonight with either Frozen or The Ugly, or perhaps both.
|
i'll rewatch Halloween on blu ray, which I've owned for 6+ months and have yet to watch. I may also give The Howling and Candyman another try
i also plan to watch a bunch of DVDs i bought over the past few months but have been too busy to watch. Grave, The Cellar Door, Rage, Ed Gein, Wind Chill, We All Scream for Ice Cream, Terror of Frankenstein, Rest Stop, Severance, The Eye 2, Pyscho 2 3 and 4, Triangle, Rose Red, The Changling, etc Im buying cheap DVDs way faster then i can watch them, and plan to catch up this month |
I get a lot of films and then it can take me up to five years to finally get around to watching them.
So far I've watched Frozen and The Ugly. Frozen I gave 3.5/5 and The Ugly I gave 4.5/5 (What a film, WOW!). I'll have reviews on my site and on MFC tomorrow. |
Apart from watching Halloween (which is a given), I'll be watching:
The Blair Witch Project The Evil Dead Halloween 3 (Sue me, I like it) The Fog |
It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Halloween, Sleepy Hollow and Trick r Treat are a lock for October 31.
Turner Classic Movies is showing Hammer movies every Friday night this month. I'm gonna be catching a bunch of those. |

I think my halloween celebration peaked early. I finally saw The Changling, which is good, but what I'm really floored by is the Psycho sequels, 2-4. i'm surprised these aren't talked about more, considering how fantastic the production, writing, and acting (especially by Anthony Perkins) is in all 3. I'm now under the impression that Psycho is the best horror franchise, and I'm eager to rewatch the original, now that I know so much more about the Bates family and their property.
check your nearest Big Lots. I got the 3 movies for $6 (2 disks). i think i'd rate them 2: 9 3: 8 4: 7 |
i watched a few more
The Cellar Door - 4 kept me entertained despite being generic and amateur The Girl Next Door - 6 really neat suburban story but the pace is too quick (i never thought i'd say that about a movie but its true here) House - 7 loved this one. starts slow but becomes as entertaining as Evil Dead 2. great monsters and zany, dreamlike situations The Gate - 7 another offbeat 80s comedy/horror with great monsters and practical special effects The Janitor - 5 a bad movie with a few hilarious/wtf moments. worth watching for those alone, and a must watch for people who like 'bad' movies Triangle - 9 just a fantastic thriller what are you guys watching? |
Leading up to and probably spilling into Halloween:
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) Dracula (1958) The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958) The Mummy (1959) The Brides of Dracula (1960) The Curse of the Werewolf (1961) The Phantom of the Opera (1962) The Evil of Frankenstein (1964) The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964) Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966) Frankenstein Created Woman (1967) The Mummy's Shroud (1967) Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968) The Devil Rides Out (1968) Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969) Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970) Scars of Dracula (1970) The Horror of Frankenstein (1970) Countess Dracula (1971) Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971) Dracula AD 1972 (1972) The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973) The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974) Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974) To the Devil a Daughter (1976) My wife has never seen any of the Hammer Horror films so I've prepared a marathon to introduce her to them, much like I did last year for her with the Universal Classic Monsters. Halloween classics for Halloween day: Pumpkinhead The Monster Squad The Crow Evil Dead Trilogy In the Mouth of Madness The Thing William Peter Blatty Trilogy (The Exorcist/The Ninth Configuration/The Exorcist III: Legion) Ginger Snaps From Dusk Till Dawn Alien (maybe Aliens and Alien 3 if there's time) Halloween I - III |

Halloween III: Season of the Witch! A lot of people don't like this movie because it doesn't have Michael Myers in it. But I really enjoy that movie so much so that I put together a Halloween III fan page on facebook if anyone is interested in joining! I wanted to pay tribute to what I think is a very under appreciated and misunderstood movie. Search "Halloween III" in facebook and it should come up. Or click here: https://www.facebook.com/HalloweenIiiSeasonOfTheWitch
Thanks!!! |

Halloween night we got down with Redd Inc - three degrees of awesomeness [Rec] 3: Genesis - a bride with a chainsaw, hell yes! The Devil Inside - not sure why this one has such a bad rep, the ending is abrupt but well conceived given the development of the plot lines. Halloween - JC original, a must watch every Halloween Trick 'N Treat - such good fun, reminds me of those old horror comics. Seems Pirates and Zombies were the outfits of choice this year, plenty of treats given away (we did little bags of toys and chocs this year), and quite a few things left over to keep the team running through our movie marathon. About to move to another Country, job requirement, hope they do Halloween there as well. |
