Rank The Phantasm Series
Hello, I'm new around here. Been a long-time lurker. I wonder if anyone else here is a major fan of the criminally underrated and overlooked Phantasm series? This is by far my favorite Horror series ever and though I enjoy many others, this one is the standout for me. I'm curious to how you rank all four in your order of preference if you've seen them. I rank them as:
Phantasm II Phantasm Phantasm IV: Oblivion Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead I absolutely love all four, though. Part 2 is my favorite Horror film of all-time. Look forward to seeing the responses to this. |
Phantasm: 10/10
Phantasm II: 10/10 Phantasm III: 7/10 (maybe 7.5, I really need to give this one a rewatch) Phantasm OblIVion: 10/10 I'm a huge fan of this series (it's my second favourite Horror franchise), as my ratings show. I love them all, aside from a majority of pt. III. I really disliked how they gave it an Evil Dead kind of humour and I disliked the new characters introduced. I'm going to rewatch all of these films in the future (in order) and after then I'll pass final judgment. In terms of my favourites, I have to say that I love the other three films equally. I thought that the original was a Horror masterpiece, the second did to Phantasm what Alien's did for Ridley Scott's original, and OblIVion was a sentimental conclusion to the series. I wish that they could have made pt. V, but it looks unlikely as of right now. |
Phantasm
Phantasm II Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead Phantasm IV: Oblivion Same order they were made...One of my favorite horror series, with the original being one of my all-time favorite movies. Oblivion was the only 'weak' entry in the series IMO, while I LOVE the others. Shame that was the one that finished things off... I'd give one of my balls for another go with the shiny ones  |
I still love part 3 although it's my least favorite. I too wasn't a fan of the humor in it and could've done without the cheesy parts, but it was still great.
I know you gave them your ratings MisoGenie, but how would you arrange the four in order of preference? I didn't rate them before, so I'd rate them as: Phantasm - 10/10 Phantasm II - 10/10 Lord Of The Dead - 8/10 Oblivion - 9/10 IMO, it's a very rare Horror series where every entry is genuinely great, even when it's at it's low point (the third), it's still superb. |
Phantasm 2
Phantasm Phantasm 3 Phantasm 4 I think the second is leaps and bounds ahead of the others. |
Phantasm - 10/10
Phantasm II - 10/10 Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead - 8.5/10 Phantasm IV: Oblivion - 6.5/10 Phantasm's End - Hopefully one day... I love the first two films a lot and can't actually decide which one I think is better. The third one was a step down but still entertaining. I didn't like the new characters much or Reggie being turned into a horndog but it was pretty cool that they brought back Jody as one of the spheres. The fourth one kinda rubbed me the wrong way because it just felt so slow. It's a shame that the budget had to be cut down so much. This just doesn't feel like a proper end to the long running franchise and at this point I fear Angus Scrimm is too old to even play the Tall Man convincingly anymore. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes. |
I'm in the minority here: I hate the Phantasm series never watched any of the films past the second one. I don't know, I could just never get into them.

Oh definitely agreed, although I love the other three, too. |

Phantasm II
Phantasm Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead Phantasm IV: Obilivion |
Yeah, I can understand the series is not for everyone due to it's bizarreness and sometimes disorienting quality but I can't imagine anyway else.

I watched all four of them again recently, they still hold up very well. My ranking remains the same as well but like I've said, I adore them all.

A heads up for any fans, here's a super-cool find, the unproduced Phantasm V script.
