Yeah it's excellent driving music. Also great background music for working, I frequently listen to it while video editing. Nujabes did a lot of the music for Samurai Champloo, if we have any fans of that show here. Unfortunately he died in a car accident a couple of years ago. He was in his early 30s, so we missed out on a lot of great music. :(

The song "Feather", that piano is so great but the melody reminds me so much of fairly popular song from the early-90s (?) and it's making it hard for me to just chill and listen. Not the whole line, just a portion of it, namely 2 notes...

Found it -

which is actually a sampled jazz riff from these guys…

Cool song! I think I've heard that sample in other songs, or maybe I've just heard that one before and didn't register the name. I never linked that with Feather, but I can see the similarities.

Here's another good Nujabes song:

Horizon

PBateman 08-02-2012 08:19 PM

Thanks Davey, lovin it so far. Reminds me of Jurassic 5 meets Tribe called Quest, with a dash of Common.

I remember the white town song, good call. But my mind is officially blown that you traced it back to 19 f'n 32.

Oh I kept repeating the "feather" piano line and ended up searching Google for songs that sounded like the Imperial Death March. That led me to White Town.

I can't take the credit for tracing it back though. This right here is an indispensable resource if you are interested in sampling:

You're welcome man, I'm glad you enjoyed the music. Here's another great piece from Nujabes:

World's End Rhapsody

Dirtyfrog 08-03-2012 05:03 AM

For chill out music , it's pretty bland but it might be because you tried to force it down my throat. Reminds me of those boring Buddha Bar cds 1-2-3 ( 4-5-6 were great ).

Doesnt hold a candle to Digifruitella's suggestion of Synkro. L2 sell your love !

DaveyJoeG 08-03-2012 09:50 AM

It's ok Dirtyfrog, sometimes I'm wrong too. It's not all chill out music, he does a lot of hip hop and has collaborated with artists such as Shing02, Minmi, Cise Star, CYNE, Five Deez, Substantial, Fat John, CL Smooth, and Funky DL.

F.I.L.O. ft. Shing02

I'm all for communicating bands you love. I discovered great music throught forums and stuff. Actually i'm usually more open to discover new music on a personnal level than say "This music is awesome because it's highly recommended by Billboard magazine".

Music is like religion ... you can talk about it but just don't go after people that don't like what you like. I learned this lesson a while back when i dated this girl i met at a Van Halen show but then i forgot i had my Obituary cd in my car. That relationship ended quickly lol.

Does this mean you're breaking up with me? :( I'm not familiar with Billboard magazine, I discovered Nujabes because I was a fan of Samurai Champloo, and I thought the soundtrack was excellent. I'm just putting it out there for any interested schmoes because he's fairly obscure in the states.

I don't understand how I'm shoving it down anybody's throats, I simply linked to several videos, nobody has to listen to them if they don't want to. Just because my posting style was obnoxious(and tongue-in-cheek) doesn't make me some sort of religious fanatic. I'm sorry you found the music underwhelming.

The tone in this thread was pleasant, I didn't go after anybody and I think you're just projecting an attitude onto me that doesn't exist.

Here's another great Nujabes song for anybody that is interested:

D.T.F.N. ft. Cise Starr

MikeMovie 08-05-2012 02:35 PM

I'm quite a fan of Nujabes. He's by far my favorite Japanese Hip Hop producer(not that I know many!)

I remember when I heard about his death. I was just scrolling down wikipedia only a few months after he died, and I was shocked and disappointed upon hearing the news.

Why do so many great artists die young?

I know, his death hit me pretty hard, I believe he was only 32. I always think about all of the wonderful music he would have created if he hadn't died so young, it's a real shame.

Here's an unreleased track:

This is a cool, and rare video of Nujabes performing live. He's performing Luv Sick and Next View:

This is a 45 minute mixtape he did, if you have the time it's worth listening to the whole thing, it's really great, and features verses from familiar artists such as Common, Blackalicious, and Jamiroquai.

Nice call, sir. I'm digging everything I'm hearing right now. Fucking nice, ambient, nostalgic beats.
