philip seymour hoffman
a great actor who is DEFINATELY underrated! i love him. he is one of those people that even if he's in the movie for ten minutes, its the best ten minutes of the movie. he's my favorite actor in magnolia. my favorite movie of his is 25th hour, and i just adore him in punch drunk love, almost famous and every other movie i have seen him in. i hope he does more and i can't wait for love liza to come out because its his first main role. i can't wait....what do you guys think of mr. hoffman?

You really think so? While I respect any schmoe's opinion, I cannot agree! PSH just irritates me for some reason, I guess I still have that whole problem with "Almost Famous" that he added to...there's just a quiet quality about him that annoys me...I can't really explain it...so WHY DID I POST?

My "whatever" list of celebrities is constantly growing. Phillip Seymour Hoffman...whatever.
Why couldn't he just be Phil Hoffman? And why can't she just be Sarah Gellar? Or Jennifer Hewitt. This whole 3 name thing is annoying. |
Because it sounds cool to say it.
Like John C. Reily or William H. Macy. I love saying that. You know, I consider him to be like THE guy to go to if you need a good strong supporting character but i'm glad he'll have a leading role this time. I think I first saw him in The Talented Mr. Ripley and then Magnolia, and I was like "he's everywhere, but I love it!" I really can't get enough of him. He's a great actor though sometimes he often gets typecasted but he plays the role brilliantly nonetheless. |
Im a huge PSH fan. It seems like hes been in every good movie of the last couple of years. His performances in The Big Lebowski, Happiness, Almost Famous and Boogie Nights (to name a few) were great. My favorite PSH is from Talented Mr. Ripley
Tommy, how's the peeping? Tommy, how's the peeping? Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. |
ps
I am really excited for Love Liza it will be fun to finally see a movie that focuses mainly on his character.
Although that quote they have been attaching to the trailers, about him being the next Nic Cage really annoys me for some reason. |
A great actor who manages to make continually great movies. Magnolia, Big Lebowski, Almost Famous, Punch-Drunk Love, Scent of a Woman...the list goes on and on.
Very diverse (although he may not initially seem it), and always a joy to see on my screen, he's one of my favorite actors. PS. Greb: Do you really think Phil Hoffman or Philip Hoffman has a ring to it? Sarah Gellar does not either...just my observation. :) |
He's one the best actors around nowadays. His performance in HAPPINESS is particularly amazing. Very few other actors could have pulled off that role so convincingly. He was great in BOOGIE NIGHTS, too.
|
I dig the man too. Underrated, doesn't get the fame he deserves, but luckily he seems to be well-know and appreciated by movie buffs like us. He's a great actor, and he looks like a nice person.

We're doing an event at work next month, and it's going to be produced by Arthur Kassel. We sent a letter to him the other day, and he had his secretary call and INSIST that anytime he is corresponded with, his name MUST be written as Arthur M. Kassel. Ass. |

I think he's a great actor based solely on his performance in "The Big Lebowski". I don't use the term "Philip Seymour Hoffman stole every scene from Jeff Bridges" that often, but it definitely applies here.
"Who's this, dude?" |
He's one of the best actors working today and he definitely chooses good roles. I'm looking forward to Love Liza.

good actor!
I like Philip Seymour Hoffman! You're right, he did a great job in Magnolia! He's my second favorite from it after Melora Walters. His appearce 'decorated' the movie! And he's really underrated

He is great
He is so, how can I say it eloquently enough? Great.

I've gone from despising Hoffman to Greb's position of "Ehh..." just because on top of all of his annoying work (most especially in Happiness and Magnolia, both of which were basically 2+ hours of him on screen and me simply dying to smack the taste out of his mouth), he turned in an excellent performance as Lester Bangs in Almost Famous. That got him back to Square One with me. I still think John C. Reilly is a stiff. |
I admire this actor a lot. He sure knows how to choose good roles and is a magnificent actor, he just does not get the fame he deserves.
If he still becomes unknown to the world after 2 years or so, I'll be very angry. |
Nobodys' mentioned what is perhaps his best peformance to date: FLAWLESS. He plays a drag queen who assists Robert De Niros' charactor in reclaiming his speech (after suffering a stroke) Very odd combination of the 2, but it's a pretty good "dramady" 7/10
|
I think that Rod Hilton, he of the ingenius Editing Room, sums up my attitude towards Philip Seymour Hoffman in his parody script for Red Dragon...
PHILLIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN (sighing) Once again, I'm playing someone pathetic and pitiful. RALPH FIENNES Well, as I explained, I don't feel pity. Let me superglue you to a chair and light you on fire. He DOES. Amen to that. ;) |
