Final Fantasy VIII was the least of the true Final Fantasies for the Playstations. I'm sorry, but what the hell was with that ending? You don't actually get to meet the End Boss until you fight her. And the whole ending completely lacked urgency. Why should I give a shit about this fight? Where is the emotion?
When you battle Sephiroth at the end of VII, there is the burning desire to defeat him coupled with the knowledge that for the good of all living things, he needs to be utterly destroyed. I felt an urgency. I felt emotion.
But VIII? Nothing. And, frankly, the majority of the game felt empty. Kind of like their was nothing truly driving me on.
But this is all my opinion and nothing more.
