Anderson and Tarantino could fit into this discussion since they're in the same generation of filmmakers and have legions of young cinephile fans just like the three we're discussing, but I think the Coen Brothers are a generation earlier. They had already released four films--all of them critically acclaimed--before any of the other guys here even got started. It's debatable, but I consider the Coens to be more in line with the Spike Lee/Oliver Stone generation of filmmakers that emerged in the 80's. The rest of these guys emerged in the 90's.
