American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis is brilliant.

Uusally I would just put this in the just finished section but frankly I really feel I have to create a topic of it's own for this book. For the longest time I avoided this book mianly becuase I had such a negative reaction Less Than Zero. but after seeing the movie numerous times and loving it I decided to give the book a try and wow I am so glad I did.

First thing for a book thats 400 pages half of it fashion tips and nearly offensive violence it's the fastest 400 page book I've ever read. It's also absolutely brilliant. Not since Thompson's The Killer Inside Me have I ever read such a convincing portrait of a truly deranged mind. Yet, it also manages to be funny too. The dialogue is frequently halirious and there are numerous funny situations that perfectly fits the overal point of the book i.e. 80s satire.

Yet, I do think this book gets short-handed. Yes it's about the 80s, but I think it's an important work now as ever. Overall it is story about a society that is rapidly degenerating and quickly losing it's soul. After seeing they way we treat violence in horror films I couldn't help but see a few dark truths in this novel.

This book is a masterpiece.

One of the best books I've ever read. I could go on a long time about why I love it so much but it would be really tedious so I'll leave it at this.

Only book EVER to make me stop reading for a few minutes just to shudder and comprehend. Loved it!

nice to see some fans.

I'm in the middle of Rules Of Attraction. Its odd I hated the movie. Found the character annoying and unlikable and while the characters are not nicer in the book they do have some sort of sadness to them they makes it a very good book.

American Psycho is one of my favourite books, it's brilliant. Ellis is one of my favourite authors as well.

Although I must point out that he makes a mistake in his Genesis review (he says that ...And Then There Were Three... is a reference to Peter Gabriel leaving, when it's actually referring to Steve Hackett leaving. I'm a dork, just ignore this.)

Anyway, yeah. Great book.

There were certain aspects to it I liked, such as the free-form chapters that came by every once in a while, but I overall did NOT enjoy it. I also read GLAMORAMA and LESS THAN ZERO and realized, I'm just not a fan of Ellis. I prefer movies that are made which carry over the themes and tone of his work much more, which is AMERICAN PSYCHO and RULES OF ATTRACTION. Otherwise, I can't jump on this bandwagon, sorry guys, I'll just wave and watch it go by...

One of the most graphic books I have ever read.
I remember wondering why I was so captivated by a three page description of a prostitute being violated in ways I wouldnt have imagined possible. Excellent book though.

This is my favorite book. Read it about 3-5 years ago, and still constantly think about it and recommend it as much as I possibly can. I cant give this book enough complements.

I also love every other Bret Easton Eliis, minus the informers which I have yet to read, but it is in my personal library along with Ellis' other books.

Also, I agree its the fastest 400 page book Ive ever read as well.

Hardly. While I see why they couldnt quite follow, did it NEED to be as watered down as it was? And they couldve added a good thirty minutes and showed us a little more about Bateman (while not a bad job in the movie).

Such as the music chapters, had to have been a way to work that in. A few extra murders (one of the really crazy ones woulda been nice, showing how nuts he really is). Oh it couldve followed so much better, even missing out on alot of the nasty stuff.

Just. Say. No.

Even if they did include those murders, it would have absolutely got an NC-17. And they did work in the music chapters, him discussing Heuy Lewis and the News and Phil Collins
