Favorite Submarine Movie
I'm suprised there isn't a thread on this subject yet. What's your favorite "submarine" film?
EDIT: The voting booth is up! Last edited by FireCaptain4; 05-31-2009 at 02:53 PM.. |

Crimson Tide followed by The Hunt for Red October.
Still need to see Das Boot. |

Das Boot, no question.

'Das Boot'. Epic and awesome. At least to me.
However, my inner Tagia Child will always have a love for '200,000 Leagues Under The Sea'. |

The Abyss. That movie is simply remarkable. And the drowning scene is one of the most intense movie scenes ever!

Another great one that is not listed is Below. I love that movie as well as Crimson Tide and Hunt for Red October.

I'm aware of it, though I haven't seen it. Due to there being a limit of 12 options in a poll, I wasn't able to include "Below," and a few others. I tried to list the most well known submarine films and the most widely revered.

This is cool. I was actually going to make a similar topic days ago. But couldn't think of enough submarine movies.
My favs are Abyss, Das Boot, Below and U571. And I haven't seen a fair few on that list...yet. |

The Abyss -James Cameron at his best here.

The Abyss was a submarine movie?
I went with U-571. I almost went with Hunt for Red October, which is a great movie in its own right, but I thought U-571 was a more suspenseful and exciting movie. |

Isn't it? I mean, yeah, it's not set in a war and it features a touch of sci-fi, but it's still part of the submarine sub-genre.
I just googled "Submarine Films" just to make sure and it came up under the results. |

U-571. I'm surprised anyone else voted for it.

I don't consider The Abyss to be a submarine movie. Only a small portion of the film takes place on a sub. You might as well say Terminator Salvation is a submarine movie.
I would have left off The Abyss and put Below in its place. In the end, I voted for U-571. Das Boot is a really good movie, but very episodic and uneven. I think its roots as a mini-series are obvious. That doesn't mean it's bad. I just don't think it's the hands down "best thing ever." Also really enjoyed Crimson Tide and The Hunt for Red October. K19 was a snooze fest. |

Just watched Crimson Tide and was blown away. I'd probably call it Tony Scott's best film (that I've seen)

Some good ones there. I went with Das Boot, for its realism and sense of adventure. It just has the edge over The Hunt for the Red October, and 20,000 Leagues (presumably the Kirk Douglas one).

The Hunt for the Red October
One of John McTiernan's finest directorial achievements (next to Die Hard, Predator and Die Hard: With A Vengeance) |

Das Boot might be technically better, but, if the truth be told, Crimson Tide is the one i'll rewatch more often, so I'll vote Crimson Tide.
Edit: the fish tank scene and the kid crying does ruin it. If I voted now, I would give it to Das Boot. Last edited by SS-Block; 01-30-2013 at 11:14 AM.. |

None of the above. The funny, twisted, and just plain weird animated adaptation of the Beatles album, Yellow Submarine, gets my vote.

Well I do love The Hunt for Red October, but my favorite goes to Operation Petticoat. Directed by Blake Edwards, staring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis.
Sorry, probably a lame choice but I love that movie! ![]() |

Das Boot
After that, I would vote for The Bedford Incident, The Enemy Below, Crimson Tide, and Run Silent, Run Deep. Operation Petticoat is a really fun movie also. |

I dunno, for me I just feel that rewatchability should only be a portion on how you approve a film.
