Takashi Miike's Imprint on UK Satellite Channel Bravo This Friday at 11pm

UK satellite channel Bravo are showing Imprint by Takashi Miike this Friday night at 11pm. There's a preview of the episode here. I've watched it. It's just plain wrong.

I know that there's already a thread for Masters Of Horror but I thought it would be a good idea to start a fresh one otherwise this screening might have passed beneath the radar of many a UK horror schmoe.

Personally...I cannot fucking wait. I just hope it lives up to my expectations.

It's not like a trailer. It's less than a minute of the actual episode that just gives you an idea of the fucked up'edness to expect.

The nails! The fucking nails! Sorry, but nothing has ever effected me or made me cringe as much as the nails! Although the things into the mouth did nothing.

Hats off to Bravo. That was pretty close to excrutiating. I'll need to watch it again to arrive at a solid opinion but my initial impression was OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! Takashi Miike certainly knows what buttons to push and although I still think Showtime should have had the balls to show Imprint I can understand (kinda) why they got cold feet. The needles under the nails were almost impossible to watch. The needles into the gums (i'm sorry to say slasherfan) were about as bad. The abortion scenes didn't so much step over the line a bit as take a running leap into areas that are normally taboo outside of anthology horror books. There were some elements that disappointed a bit. Some of the effects were a bit on the hokey side (although most were very fucking effective). But overall this just blew me away. The best episode of Masters Of Horror thus far. Why? Because it really horrified. On many levels.

I wasn't that impressed with it. Sure the torture scene was horrific, but the cheesy effects with the conjoined sister and Billy Drago's piss-poor acting just tipped it for me.

I agree on all accounts. I did enjoy the episode. A lot. But if the performances hadn't been so sub-par (and I was rooting for Billy Drago to surprise me) it could have been a five star classic. I was actually on the verge of nodding off just before the torture scene kicked in. I sure as shit woke up once that started and the remainder of the movie (despite the performances and the cheesy effects near the end) had my eyes riveted to the screen. I've had time to think over the last few days and arrive at a final opinion. Although I did enjoy Imprint I do admit that if it had been shot in Miike's native language and been furnished with a better actor to fill the shoes of the main character the end result would have been vastly superior to what we are left with. Still...8 out of 10 from this schmoe.

i agree, i had kinda been stupidly hoping it would have been in Japanese and it seemed like some of the actors struggled with the english language which didnt help. ive also never been at all impressed with any of Dragos performances that ive seen. and the effects near the end made me grin more than anything else, very cheesy

still gets an 8/10 from me
