CHUCK PALAHNIUK NEW BOOK:SNUFF

Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication. On camera. With six hundred men. SNUFF unfolds from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Mr. 600, who await their turn on camera in a very crowded green room. This wild, lethally funny, and thoroughly researched novel brings the huge yet underacknowledged presence of pornography in contemporary life into the realm of literary fiction at last. Who else but Chuck Palahniuk would dare do such a thing? Who else could do it so well, so unflinchingly, and with such an incendiary (you might say) climax?

^^^

I have to agree with Scarfather. I think Rant was the final blow for me, but I will say: that cover is damn awesome. Kind of makes me want to read the book...just kind of.

I'm a huge fan of his earlier work (Fight Club, Choke, Survivor), but I could barely get through Haunted. Rant was a step in the right direction, but I have yet to fully enjoy any of his newer work. Snuff's premise is hilarious so I will probably give it a chance.

Well, I've only read Haunted, Choke, and Fight Club.

BTW, does he have to have like a gimmick in every book or some point of view? I mean he is a good writer, but it seems he uses gimmicks to further his stories.

Poor Chuck. You once had talent. You were a promising writer who I thought would continually be great, but then you got lazy, boring and pretty much have had the same apathetic, trying to be witty narrator throughout all of your work. Not to mention your books have had less and less of a point and more of an excuse to touch on "taboo" subjects that would offend my grandmother.

You last interesting book was Lullaby, but after that, you've pretty much been on autopilot and I hope you get off whatever it is that keeps fueling your work because honestly... it's disappointing.

I'd put Wes Anderson in the same category as Palahniuk. Same apathetic main characters, same style, same story rewritten over and over. They're a pale imitation of their old selves at this point. I hope they wake up and try for something great once more because they have it in them.
