Three stores - three titles.

Man, I had tunnel vision at Best Buy, forgot to look around. Just picked up season six of "Twenty-Four"; now have the complete series. Most sway. I should've looked if they carried, "Heathers". I even forgot to see if they carried the limited case for "Mad Men". *shrugs*

Target was my target today. It wasn't even on my list. And up until a couple of days ago, never heard of it. This being the box set, season one of "Mad Men"; blind purchase. I don't have cable. I got curious and started reading various Amazon reviews. Tons of positive comments... and here it is on my desk.

I bought it from Target since they had a five dollar gift card with purchase, the limited edition lighter steelbook case. Which looks pretty cool. Though you have to be careful closing it, the discs are held inside with cut slots in foam - careful not to scratch when you shut the lid. The booket inside acts as a guide to keep the metal door from touching the last disc. Interesting. Near mint, I decided not to make an exchange. I'll live with it, just tiny mirco scratches on disc three.

I used the five dollar gift card to make another purchase, something I've been wanting for awhile, but never got around to it. The complete series of "Darks Shadows" the 1991 NBC remake series. Twenty bucks and it came with season one of "Dark Angel". I already own it. I have the original thick box that opens up like an accordion. This set is the 2007 re-release in a newer thinner case. I ended up keeping this newer version and selling my old. Here's the funny thing.

All the discs on my old box reads 2003, the same as the new set. The discs are from the same batch. Indeed. Got a good price for it and a couple of other DVDs I didn't want at a used music store. I'm gonna uses those greenbacks to buy "Fastlane" next week. Don't give a crap, I liked the show.

Going back to "Dark Shadows". I must be noted, Joanna Going, back in the day (1991) had an exceptional rear. Don't know what she looks like now.

Just did recon at Wal-Mart, no "Heathers" there. And something else. I wanted a Wall*E figure for my desk. None. Nothing. I saw no rack nor isle with "Wall*E" toys. WTF? Amazon is selling a bunch of them. What happened? It's a friggin' gold mine. Why isn't Wal-Mart selling them? Afraid that they might be compaired to Buy'nLarge from the movie? Color me confused.

Some great deals here. I already picked up season three of "Batman Beyond". Awesome, I now own the complete series; that box set originally retailed for $44.88 in 2006. A word of warning those "Batman: The Animated Series" seasons. A box set with all the seasons is coming later this year. Can't say the price, but it's safe to say over a hundred with lots of exclusive bonus features. I would like to hope that it has the theatrical movie and the direct to video features. But I suppose that would be very wishful thinking. I'm gonna make an effort to pick up "Birds Of Prey".

A case that holds five discs in standard size; like what they did for the first season of "The Invaders". I had to make one exchange, disc two was scratched. Now disc one is scatched, but a far lesser mark *sigh* I wish there was some kind of store policy that allowed customers to exchange damaged discs for good ones. Just the discs, not the whole package.

Okay. News. The back of the release reads "Standard Version - Presented In A Format Preserving The Aspect Ratio Of Its Original Television Exhibition". You might be scratching your heads; 'wasn't it in widescreen?' You would be correct. The episodes are presented in widescreen, matted widescreen. Confused? Yeah, me too. Want more? Gone is the opening theme music; "Revolution" by Aimee Allen (awesome song). We now get a very fluffy tune. Just F-ing great. But I guess it's another slap in the face for her.

Tangent. Allen had an album from Elektra Records (a promo CD was released), but nothing became of it. Due to a corporate merger she got screwed. I've... acquired the songs. A great album that never happened. I would love to get my hands on that promo and the promo single discs. Hard to find. It was that theme song that got me interested in Ms. Allen. It sucks that it got replaced with a lesser tune.

Back to the DVD set. Here's another oddity, the unaired pilot is in anamorphic widescreen. All I have to say on the matter is that somebody was asleep at the wheel.

The other store visited was Wal-Mart, just recon.

Going back to a topic in the last DVD Crawl - "Mad Men". It has become an excellent blind purchase, I'm done with disc one. And will be buying season two whenever that comes out.

I'm probably gonna pick up "The Darkman Trilogy" and maybe "Tremors" (I hope it has its insert). I know some were expecting something more, I suppose. But I liked "Land Of The Dead". "10 Things I Hate About You" was an entertaining fluff flick. "Equilibrium" is a must, if you haven't already owned it, that and all the seasons of "Robot Chicken", a fanboy's delight! If you want a blind buy, take home "Jericho". I still need to pick up that box set with both seasons. It ended well.


BEWARE. "The Brothers Grimm" is utter crap. You will regret buying it. Trust me. Rent it if you must.

Three stores - four titles (sort of).

There wasn't a lot of my sights this week. At Best Buy; picked up from their $5.99 sale, "Darkman Trilogy: The Franchise Collection" and two of their promo DVDs. I picked 2 since I wanted an extra case. You know, sometimes you buy a title (used) and it arrives in a damaged case. What I got was something unexpected. I grabbed two copies thinking both were the same, "The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragaon Emeror" with "Hellboy II". Nope. A few weeks back they had another promo. I wanted to get one, but they would've give it to me unless I bought a DVD. I passed. There it is. I now have the promo for "The Incredible Hulk" with "Wanted". Sway. Got both for free. By the way, "Darkman Trilogy" was kinda difficult to find. It wasn't in horror nor sci-fi sections, it was in comedy. I guess... but that's kinda stretching it.

At Circuit City I took home the new Robot Chicken title; their Star Wars parody, half hour special. Already watched it. Most nice. Good price too $8.99.

I did some recon at Wal-Mart and picked up some paper towels and fabric softener. Nothing really there to report.

Can't go wrong with "Clerks II" or "Go". Good stuff. Last month comic artist Michael Turner died (bone cancer - chondrosarcoma), 37. He was the creator of "Witchblade". I have many of the comics ("Fathom" was excellent). I tried watching the live action series (WB), but I couldn't get pass the fact it was so mis-casted. The character of Sara Pezzini was very feminine... Yancy Butler is far too masculine. There I wrote it.

Some great titles on sale. I do recommend the remake of "Night Of The Living Dead". It a solid different take on the classic. I just wish they would re-release it as a better special edition. I saw that when it first was released. What got me was the emaciated ghoul that attacked the farm house. Not a puppet. Freaky. Oh and it pretty much goes without saying... Now there's a decent price for season 3 of "Prison Break"! Yes, "John Carpenter's Ghost Of Mars" has gotten lots of negative reviews, but it's really a solid popcorn flick. I'll be honest, the man has a hard-on for siege movies...

"Undercover Brother". I rented that. It sucks. But I saw something it could've been. Everybody is playing their role too silly. Chris Kattan should've played it straight (ha ha). We get a glimpse of how kick-ass Mr. Feather could have been. That character needed to be a serious threat throughout the movie. It might have helped his career too. Kattan always goes for the farce and loopy roles. This would have put him in a different light - a serious actor. Okay, a serious actor in a silly movie. But he would definitely stand out as the heavy.

I'm liking stuff on the two disc SE, ten bucks list. I have the single disc of "The Guns Of Navarone". I need to watch it, see if I want to upgrade. "Wyatt Earp", "The Searchers" and "Stagecoach" have my attention too.

Three stores - five titles (kinda).

This week I only had two titles on my sights, but took home more than two nevertheless.

Today I vistied a store I don't often go to, a magical place *cough gag cough* called DD Discount. Think of it as a step down from Marshalls (more animated customers and livelier odors). Meh. I thought I'd give it a try. Since Marshalls does sell DVDs, they might too. And they do. Crap piled with crap - open cases with discs missing. Anyhow I did find some stuff. Bought "Cursed: Unrated Version" ($4.99) and "Aliens Of The Deep" ($2.99), the James Cameron documentary. I remember seeing AOTD at Wal-Mart on release week. And never again. Both of these were blind purchases. I also left with a belt, hey it was six bucks and a huge buckle. I suppose I could wear it as a sash; "Today IS A Good Day To Shop. Kapla!"

At Best Buy I took home "Rogue: Unrated". This too is another blind purchase. I did see the trailer for it (liked it). And it's gotten some good reviews. This could be a simple popcorn flick which would please me. What kind of bugs me is that synopsis says: '...and Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill)'. Shouldn't she be remembered for a GOOD movie? It should read, '...and Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black)'.

Lastly I went to Wal-Mart. Found out that they were selling "Starship Troopers 3: Marauder" with an exclusive bonus disc. There you go. Bought that. I found the last direct-to-video sequel, kinda predicable, but still entertaining - I expect the same here. I have no menu screen shot since it just plays; the bonus disc is titled "On The Bouce: The Making Of Starship Troopers 3 Marauder". It's a twenty-four minute featurette.
