I watched Election last night and I did really enjoy it, I'll watch Election 2 later today. The action scenes really are some of the best around, but I have a mild complaint about both the Johnny To movies I've seen so far, you know when critics say some bullshit like 'the script needed to be tightened up', well thats how I feel about the To movies so far. But the direction and performances are first rate, and the movies are so much fun. Johnny To is so much more talented as a director than John Woo (IMO).

I haven't had time for the Powell set yet. I've seen both movies multiple times, but can't wait to see life and death again. And Kent Jones does the commentary on Age of Consent, one of my fav critics, hes got just the right amount of pretentiousness and common movie fan in him.

I kind of get where you're coming from. There's definitely some flaws in his films, but they're just really enjoyable, and stylistically, very entertaining. Let me know what you think of any other of his movies you check out.
