What happened to The Departed prequels?
Are they still in the works? Will they be remakes of the Infernal Affairs prequels?

Never gonna happen because it was a stupid idea, unfortunately.

I don't want anything more. The movie is done and should not be extended in an way.

As much I as I didn't like the ending, this is very true.

William Mahoney told the Boston sun in 07 that it would continue with Wahlburg rooting out higher corruption in the city. The rumor was that De Niro represented the top dog dirty Boston politician.

If you set that to ragtime music, that would be hilarous.

Luckily, it went the way of most scripts; it never left development hell

Yeah, it looks rather finite for a sequel, now that I see that again.

I wouldn't mind a spiritual sucessor ala Snatch to Lock Stock. Returning the main actors as well as adding in some De Niro, Keitel and even a role for Scorsese himself, cause he's such a good actor but the asshole won't act for us.

Well if you've seen Infernal Affairs 2 and 3 you'll know that them all being executed doesn't stop anything. One is a prequel, one a sequel. Doubt it'll happen though.

By that rate just make a new movie with new characters. |

I'm not saying sequels or prequels SHOULD follow. I was just curious about the issue since I hadn't heard anything about it in awhile.
I think a series is more befitting for Infernal Affairs, but the charm of The Departed is that even though it's a remake, it is not an assembly line reproduction of the original; it's its own beast. They're different kinds of films. |
