Well I'm just sayin' that there's dinosaurs, even a T-Rex at one point, in the original Kong as well. Not sayin' you hate PJ, just sayin' the issue was always there with the material. Haha.

I still feel like this film is gonna be a big financial disappointment. Sure, it'll eventually make its money back in the long run, but I bet you it doesn't do any more than 200mil at the box office....

It does have a lot of people in it that I had no idea about (Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Sigorney Weaver etc).

if it really does cost around 500 million (200 more than i expected it cotsts) then even if it broke even with Titanic's record breaking b.o. receipts, it's still only a 100 million gain, which happens to a lot of pictures every year.

I'm having a hard time contemplating what exactly they expect it to make.

Maybe they're banking on the hype of how much it costs? Like, "Hey, we've just gotta see the most expensive film ever made, right?"

$500million worldwide is what they expect, that is the break even number. The same as every $200million film.

The NY Times article is just trying to hype the movie. The costs that the article added to the budget of Avatar is something no movie ever takes into account when announcing its budget. As I pointed out before, Transformers 2 & Terminator Salvation both had a similar budget to Avatar. And like Avatar those films had to cross $500million worldwide to break even. They had to cross $500million because thats how much they really cost everyone in the end.

Avatar is not the most expensive movie ever made. POTC: At Worlds End was.

Do you have a source for your claims? The New York Times does tend to be more reliable than some random person on the internet.

Here's an article on CHUD.com that explains why the $500 million figure is closer to reality than the $230 million figure.

Despite the FOX channel shoving this down my throat, I'm defintiely checking this out regardless. It's retreaded ground from other movies I have seen, but it's also James Cameron, so I'm there.

I have my complaints about some of the designs, lines from the trailer, etc., but you wont be able to keep me away from the movie theater. This will be pure escapism and adventure at its finest. When has Cameron let us down?

I will most definitely be checking this one out. It looks like itll be a great sci-fi adventure movie. I wish they wouldnt have gone with so much CG but Cameron was able to create the world he wanted to so that's cool in my book. I would see it for the cast alone; Worthington, Ribisi, Lang, Saldana (even though she's an alien in it and it just her voice she's still a good actress), Rodriquez, and Weaver. The cast is excellent in my opinion even though most of them are not the biggest names they are still some of the best working actors especially Lang and Ribisi. It's alway good to Sigourney in a new movie same with Michelle Rodriquez who I do think is a pretty actress even though she has done a lot of crap but I dont think she'll win any awards any time soon. Of course Worthington has just shot up over night I remember when the first Terminator Salvation trailer came out I was just who the fuck is Sam Worthington and now he's in Avatar which is one of my highly anticipated films this winter and then Clash of the Titans for next summer, he's a good actor so he deserves the attention he's getting. James Cameron's one of my favorite directors ever and he knows how to tell a story too so Im pretty sure this movie will be awesome.

My main problem is the scene itself though. It's basically the "always a bigger fish" scene in Episode 1 with a bit of the first encounter in The Lost World. Essentially, it really is nothing we haven't seen before, and this whole film is basically a "you've never seen anything like it" advertisement.

I'm starting to suspect everyone will say "you haven't really seen it unless it was 3D in IMAX. If thats so, then this is just a theme park set piece, not a successful film.

Definitely has the cartoon look, but I see lots of potential. This movie can't be judged until it's actually seen from start to finish.

Thanks for the link. Awesome interview.

Worthington seems like a really cool "guys guy". Not some pussy Hollywood pretty boy.

And that 4 minute clip is just insane. I can tell this film is a "cant miss" in theaters. You will definitely get your moneys worth for sure.
