Does The Blind Side count as a horror? Because it was horrific.

Possession

Out of morbid curiosity I finally saw this long delayed remake of the brillaint Korean film Addicted. Guess what? It's unspeakbly shit. Sarah Michelle Gellar is titanically awful in the role so beautifully played by Lee Mi-yeon in the original; she betrays absolutely no expression, so there's no sense of the emotional upheaval her character is meant to be going through. She's in good company though, as all the performances are dreadful, the direction and screenplay are appalingly cheap and generic and it all adds up to a hideously stupid and dull 85 minutes.

It was alright, kind of bottom of the barrel when it comes to slasher classics. But hey it has Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielson and it's a masterpiece compared to the "remake."

Heard the sequel was much better. Can anyone back this up?

Surveillance 8/10 - Not a true horror flick (IMO), more along the lines of thriller/suspense but still a nice ride. Loved the style/pace/tone of this one and the performances were all solid (a bit over the top at pointss but I think that's what they were going for). Hope to see more from young Ms. Lynch!

I liked part 2 and 3 alot. Part 1 and 4 not so much. Parts 2 and 3 take the supernatural route. More of a possesion/ghost story. But its played like NOES part 3 and on. The kills are more over the top and there is some comedy here and there.

If you like 80s cheese number 2 is really fun. I didn't like part 1 at all.

Sorority Row(remake)

2.5/5

I never saw the original but I doubt it is like this because the new one is sort of I Know What You Did Last Summer rip-off. It is not a good movie but it was fun and I liked it better than the Friday the 13th remake but not as fun as MBV 3d

The Descent: Part 2 - 3/10
A sequel that not only adds nothing remotely worthy to the story (copy what happens in the first film, fuck about with the story a bit and you have this) but completely ignores events from the first film including having a climbing axe go right through a leg, somehow missing the bone completely, doing nothing more than giving you a slight limp. I'm not going to even go into characters magically escaping their obvious fate and getting out of the cave... unless the makers are retards and only watched the "American version". The acting is soso, nothing stands out. The gore in the first film was there to move the plot along, in this it's just for gores sake. And as for the "twist" ending, they didn't do a very good job of hiding it. The only reason this gets a 3 is because the music score's along the same lines as the first film (which was a fantastic score) and the effects are good... aside from one of the actors clearly breaking a prosthetic head.

Surviving Evil - 5/10
Competently made and surprisingly decent acting but far too slow paced with not a lot happening for long stretches.

Thirst - 8/10
One of the better vampire films of the last decade.

Tony - 8/10
A day in the life of a serial killer. Wasn't expecting a lot and it really took my by surprise, well acted and never dull.

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever - 4/10
Just bad.

The Fly ('58) - 8/10
House Of Wax ('53) - 8/10
Two horror classics.

4/5

I actually had no idea what to expect with this, I thought I had seen it but I never had. I had no idea what it was even about, and I loved it! Such a fun film and it was great to see all the horror references, well they were rather obvious.

A little slow, but has a nice final half hour. The 3-D kind of sucks for home use though.

6/10

-----------------------------------

The Stepfather '87

Interesting tale about John Locke (or in this film Jerry Blake) descending into insanity. However, like Fatal Attraction '87, the finale turns from a horror/thriller serial killer film into an 80's slasher flick with an unstoppable killer. I guess that was all the rage back then... A couple brutal scenes stand out and the opening is quite dark! Poor subplot (which eventually ends up a waste of time) distracts, but the main plot and Terry O'quinns acting stands out.

8/10

---------------------------------

Mommie Dearest '81

Not a horror film (a failed drama about child abuse), but some people now consider it a horror/thriller due to its lead!

80's top AFI female Joan Crawford/Faye Dunaway stars.

The razzie winner of 1981. Suppose to have been a drama centered on child abuse, but turned into a campy joke instead. Faye Dunaway (who was shooting for an Oscar) and Paramount were furious. Faye has since forbidden anyone from asking her about the role ever again -- it's in all her contracts. She was a notable actress back then and this film was known for destroying her rising stardom.

The promotion was changed almost immediately after it came out and started attracting not people in their 40s/50s, but college students to make fun of it.

You'll either like this movie if you like campy or hate it if you're an older Joan Crawford fan who defends her. Joan chews at the scenery and has several memorable scenes. It's high camp in its truest nature.

8/10

Otis - 6/10
I feel like I should've liked this more than I actually did. I liked the fact that it went for something a bit different than the norm, the performances were all ok (had no idea I was watching Chrissy from Growing Pains!) but no one really stood out - except for maybe the lead and the FBI agent (loved that guy!). The story was simple but kept my interest, where it was all going was fairly obvious but the ending was far from satisfying. The soundtrack was solid - The Talking Heads and Devo...great stuff! Really no major complaints but nothing to writoe home about either. Deserves a rewatch.

Halloween (2007) - 5/10
Here's the thing about this film, at least from where I'm sitting: this is a decent slasher flick. It has a few great moments (namely the scene where young Michael flips out in the psychiatric ward), and it boasts some pretty cool and appropiately gory deaths. The problems start with the title. A passable slasher it might be, a Halloween movie it isn't. It feels a lot like Zombie just didn't understand what made the original film, and indeed Michael Myers, such a momentous achievement in horror. It's the idea of a child just losing it for no reason, the concept that a person can just genuinely be born evil. But Zombie decides creating some back-story where Myers was abused and neglected as a child, and having some stupid reason behind the actual infamous Halloween night massacre, is plausible and makes sense. But it doesn't. If Zombie wanted to make a horror movie about an abused redneck kid who grows up to be a serial killer, that's fine. But by putting the Halloween title on the film he suceeds in only destroying the credibility of one of the greatest villains of all time. As I said, this is a fine attempt at a twist on the modern-horror torture-porn genre and I mantain that Rob Zombie is a good director, but I really wish he'd left this franchise alone, because his take on things just doesn't work.

Thriller! The Ex '97

This is a '97 Cinemax Fatal Attraction rip-off! There is only one reason to watch this... And that is for Yancy Butler who plays Deidre. If you like characters like Baby Jane Hudson, Kathy Bates, Glen Close, Mommie Dearest, and Peter Baker/Angela Johnson from Sleepaway Camp 2, you will likely find yourself enjoying Yancy Butler as Deidre. If you love your bad guys, she is for you. This movie itself and the prime suspects (including a young Suzi Amis/James Cameron's wife) are deeply stupid.

Plot: In order to get her husband back, an architect's psycho ex-wife kills everybody she can get her hands on.

However, I found this movie to be fun solely due to Yancy Butler. You'll likely be rooting for the bad guy by movie's end -- but the ending is a let down.

(Trivia: To prepare for her role as a killer, actress Yancy Butler worked out five hours a day and also trained Judo.)

Definitely recommended! Check it out if you like your sleazy DTV thrillers. Yancy Butler should have been on the AFI top female villains list along with her cinema sisters.

3 out of 4 stars!

First time seeing this movie. It was.....wild. I had heard a lot of fuss about it so I figured I'd check it out with a few fellow horror movie lovers. I thought it was great. The intensity of this movie is rare to find and the balls that these people took to make this movie deserves an applause. Will it be a movie I watch over and over, no. But it's definitely worth a watch.

This was playing on TV, can't even say the last time I ever watched it. Classic. I never brought myself to watch the sad sequel, but if the third straight-to-DVD crapfest comes out and we get a triple feature DVD or Blu-ray, maybe I will bring myself to it. Because The Lost Boys is definitely a film I'd want to own. Not enough good vampire movies out there.

Really was pretty boring. For what the topic was they tried to go too much the suspense route instead of horror.
