So, Kamelot finally have named their new album, it's to be called Poetry for the Poisoned and it's scheduled for September 3. Simone Simmons (of Epica) is also going to be back to sing on two tracks, as are Bjorn Strid (Soilwork) and Jon Olivia (Savatage) on unconfirmed tracks, as well as Gus G. (Firewind) playing additional guitar. Hell yes.

Also, Angel Dust finally have a new album coming out, following up the amazing Of Human Bondage, called Tales from Ashes and Dust, to be released later this year. Awesome.

While this may not be a great year for film or video games, it's a fantastic year for metal.

I was getting a little annoyed by Kamelot, wondering when they were going to finally crank something out. And something new from Angel Dust? That's amazing.

I read that they are gonna release the BIG 4 DVD sometime. Members of Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer joined Metallica to preform Am I Evil the other night. Its cool that they finally got that tour together. It would be nice if it would come to the States, but I highly doubt it.

I should be recording a death metal demo pretty low-fi in the next couple months (I'd say weeks but things never go as awesome as I plan) with my buddy long distance, I'm really fucking excited about that!!!

It's gonna be my friend on guitars, me on bass and vocals, and whoever I can find on drums if we use actual drums.

I'm not sure what he's doing, but I'm recording my bass and vocal tracks on my MP3 player. I'm pretty much putting my amp in my bathroom with my MP3 player across from it and recording like that. I did a test a few days ago for the bass and it actually sounded pretty decent, so I cannot wait to record the demo itself!!!

The sound is gonna be very similar to 80's era Death, Massacre, Obituary, Master, Possessed, and possibly some very early Deicide and Cannibal Corpse (though that will probably be more the vocals). Will post the demo here when it's recorded and mixed, and pressed. I've already got some distribution in place when the whole thing is done.

So I've had Abigail Williams' full length for quite some time now, but it wasn't until a few days ago that I really started to enjoy it. They may not be the most original band, but it's still a nice slab of some awesome symphonic black metal. I've heard people bitch about the keyboards, but I fucking love them. I'm eagerly awaiting their next CD. I don't know why their keyboard player ditched for fucking CRADLE OF FILTH. Too bad. She's a hottie.

Got a question for all metal heads, would you rather listen to metalcore or nu-metal? Two of the most hated genres from the fans. This would be tough but I will say nu-metal.

Nu-metal. I can't fucking stand anything core-related, unless it's crossover hardcore from the 80's.

Nu-metal could of have been a great genre. It just the bands were horrible. It wasn't metal, more like alterative hard rock than metal.

Question, where do musicians go after they've explored the extreme metal genre?

Members of Gorgoroth

Previous members of Arch Enemy, Carcass and Opeth.

And of course Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir

They get stoned baby!!!!!

I'd go with Metalcore. Sure, alot of it is crap, but there are some gems hidden in. Shadows Fall was really good up until their shitty Threads of Life album. God Forbid and Darkest Hour are enjoyable. I like a couple of songs by Unearth and All That Remains. New American Gospel by Lamb Of God is a good album.

Nu-Metal is horrible. The worst part is that most of it (All of Limp Bizkit's dialogue, Korn's stuff, and Slipknot's first few albums especially) sounds really dated at around ten years old. The bands from this genre I enjoy are really small. I'd say System Of A Down's stuff (aside from the first album) holds up greatly and they are a good band. I can tolerate a handful of Korn songs, a couple of Disturbed songs and a small dosage of Sevendust but that's about it.

Honestly, I'd take either genre over this deathcore crap that has been popular for the past few years. At least the worst of Nu-Metal and Metalcore is unintentionally funny in it's badness but most deathcore is just boring with their samey breakdowns and pig squeals. I can't believe fucking Cryptopsy went the way of deathcore. All Shall Perish and some Red Chord (First album is amazing) are the only decent bands in that genre. I've been around friends that love that shit for years now and I can't stands no more.

Nu Metal. I do like Slipknot. It was a while before I finally realized this, but I do.

Metalcore under it's original meaning is fucking awesome. S.O.D., Suicidal Tendencies, M.O.D. etc. etc., which is now considered 'crossover thrash.' And there are some decent new bands who have gone under that term, like Sworn Enemy and Lamb of God.

But shit like Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold (I don't care if they came out of that, they still fucking suck), Killswitch Engage, Bullet for my Valentine, Prayer for Cleansing, The Number 12 Looks Like You etc.? What the FUCK? Pussification maximus. Oh yeah, and aren't those some really threatening names?

I've been listening to some Samael lately. Picked up their most recent album, Above, as well as Solar Soul. I really like these guys, but don't really know how I would define them. Almost every album sounds slightly different. Some are very heavy, while others are more ambient. I guess it's some sort of quasi-industrial/thrash metal??? Above definitely has that metal "wall of sound" that defined Strapping Young Lad. It's pretty good, but I think Reign of Light is still their best work, followed by Eternal.

Listening to that inspired me to pull out some Devin Townsend, so I was cranking Infinity in the car to day. Such an awesome album. Bad Devil is such a fun, infectious song.

Also picked up Anvil's This is Thirteen today. I've already heard it and think it's pretty good, though not the greatest. Regardless, I bough the CD because I wanted to support them for keeping the metal dream alive.

Get Forged In Fire. Personally I think it's the strongest of the 80's stuff. Metal On Metal has most of the "famous" songs, but FIF in more focused musically.

From what I've read, Samael is a industrail/black metal band. Have heard some great things about them.

And for all of you metalheads, which metal forum do you think is better, Metal Archives or Ultimate Metal? Archives a great site but I like ulit better.

No one picked up the new Fear Factory yet ?

I just noticed that the cd was out , they played Heavy Mtl concert last weekend and i missed it .... little to no promo on that one and that's a real shame because FF is back in business ( and i mean Demanufacture/Obsolete business style). Out with the rap shit , out with the lame cover song , Dino is back and they have Gene "The fucking Atomic Clock" Hoglan on drums. Dont get me wrong , Raymond was good but Gene is just better. They also brought back Rhys Fulber on keyboard duty ( Front Line Assembly )

After a dozen of listens , i am happy to say that this is their best album in more than 10 years ( actually Archetype was ok but Digimortal and Transgression sucked ).

Tracklist :

01. Mechanize
02. Industrial Discipline
03. Fear Campaign Official Video and its got a freaking Dino guitar solo 0.o
04. Powershifter
05. Christploitation
06. Oxidizer
07. Controlled Demolition
08. Designing The Enemy
09. Metallic Division
10. Final Exit

9/10 ... awesome comeback ... hope they dont fuck it up on the next album because they have a sweet thing going on now.

Edit : unoffical Powershifter video here -> http://www.noisecreep.com/2010/07/16..._wpcom_inline/ .... but its HQ and live , i dont post unofficial video usually.

^I picked up at the beginning of the year it feels like
It is a fantastic album. I'm fine if they keep making a disappointing album then an awesome one, such as the pattern has been since Obsolete (great album) - Digimortal (lukewarm album) - Archetype (great album) - Transgression (lukewarm album) - Mechanize (great album).
I still feel kinda standoffish towards Burton's attitude toward not even telling Raymond or Christian about any of it. Kind of a dick move. Not even a "by the way, you guys aren't going to be on the next album." In fact, Christian was talking about how he was writing new material and such, so that's gotta be a bummer.

yeah ... FF would be pushing for the metal king crown now if they stopped shooting themself in the foot. They peaked too early and tried to keep improving where they didnt need to. FF has been struggling so much for the last past 10 years that my fav FF moment was seeing Burton singing Just One Fix on the last Ministry tour :s

BBL ... listening to the new Deftones atm so ill have a new critic there

PS. Dont go to the record store only twice a year , you starved yourself then it cost you 120$ when you finally go

The new FF is good, but I don't like the production. You can barely hear the riffs. They'll never top Obsolete.

I've been listening to the Triptykon record a lot lately. It's fucking amazing.

New Deftones 12 listens is thru .....

i'll be blunt .. if you never liked Deftones before , this album will not win you over. There isnt a ton of bands that do Grungy-artsy-ambient metal to perfection.... but Deftones is one.

Deftones was supposed to release Eros last year but they scrapped it because of the Chi accident. So they made a totally new CD in 2 months.

That sounds like crap but actually it isn't. It's a great fllow-up to Saturday Night Wrist.

The new FF is pretty good. It gets a little tiresome because every song tries to go 1000 miles an hour. Demanufacture/Obsolete/Archtype had a better balance of songs. I caught them twice this year on tour. Once with Prong, great show. Thier new songs are much better live. The band as a whole sounds good. But,the best shows I seen them do was during the Obsolete tours. I dont think they can get to that level again, unfortunatly.

The new Front Line Assembly is good. They added more metal guitars and the songs hit a little harder than thier previous albums.

I saw Lords of Acid last Sat. Former Ministry guitarist Sin is playing guitar for them. Unfortunalty Lacey from Nocturne/Rock of Love is their singer. She cant sing and has no stage presence.

I saw Megadeth/Testament/Slayer last night. Those "old men" still got it. Megadeth played the R.I.P album and Slayer played Seasons. Both bands sounded great. I missed some of Testaments set due to terrible traffic. But the few songs I heard where really tight. I highly recommend going. I think Testament is on a few more dates, then Anthrax steps in.

Also, I picked up Mustaines book a few days ago. I read about half. Its pretty good and an easy read.

I'm a big fan of the albums I mentioned. Everything else ranges from okay to meh.

Listened to the new Apocalyptica and wasn't that excited. I think adding drums and vocals really killed what made the band original and unique. Especially since the songs that have vocals just end up sounding like Breaking Benjamin style butt rock.

wow ! i just discovered them ... and they are local band ( from Montreal - Canada ). Why didn't i know of them before ?

Damn , thought death metal was kinda dead atm but this band rocks. Well , it's not pure death metal , it's more like melodic deathcore.... whatever that means !

Videos:

Official :Business Suits & Combat Boots

Official : And Their Eulogies Sang Me To Sleep

Listened to the new Tarja album "What Lies Beneath". It's pretty good, but not as good as My Winter Storm (at least based on one play-though). Her solo stuff isn't on the same level as Nightwish, which is bound to happen when you don't have a musical virtuoso writing your stuff. It kinda plays it safe with its metal/rock hybrid sound, but it's good. It's just great to hear her voice.

Her cover of Whitesnake's Still of the Night is quite impressive.
