The unquestionably best graphic novel I've read is Richard Stark's 'Parker: The Hunter'. It's follow-up 'Parker: The Outfit' is almost as good; granted both are adaptations of two novels from my favorite book series.

I also HIGHLY recommend...
Frank Miller's 'Ronin'
Frank Miller's 'Hard-Boiled'
'Superman: Red Son'
John Woo's 'Seven Brothers'
