Is Q out of the next James Bond movie?

I read that Roger Deakins signed on as Cinematographer.

So now we've got Mendes, and Deakins working together? With Craig reprising Bond, and Javier Bardem as a villain? What could make this better? I wonder who will do the soundtrack. I wonder who will do the theme song for the movie. I wonder if this will be a Bond masterpiece.
I'm sure it will.

I keep hearing rumors about Adele doing the theme song.

I'm not that familiar with her, but the songs I have heard from her are pretty cool. Plus I think her voice suits a Bond theme nicely, so this is pretty cool news too!

It's unknown at this point, but Craig mentioned way back when that Q and Moneypenny were two of the elements that they wanted to bring back. We've got Moneypenny so one can only hope we get Q Branch in some sort of capacity...

Jeffrey Wright is Felix Lighter. He calls himself that in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Bond clearly calls him Felix. There is no need to replace him. Wright is doing a great job with the role.

I forgot Felix was in those two movies. But it doesn't matter. The majority of Bond universe characters have changed actors multiple times. It's unlikely that Jeffrey Wright will be the last actor to play Felix. I was offering an idea for the series. Harrison Ford as Felix seemed like a cool idea to me. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I remember prior to Quantum of Solace going into production they wanted Amy Winehouse to do the song. Unfortunately, that'll never happen so I think a good alternative would be Adele or Duffy. I don't want another shit mix of Keys and White. Quantum had the worst opening song, ever!

This.

The next theme definitely needs to be a solo female as it has the more classic feel....

Daniel Craig wants Kings of Leon. Vomit.

Kings of Leon? really. I'd hate that. I agree, the theme needs to be a female singer. 100%

... and it has to FEEL 'Bondian,' rather than like some current Top 40 hit (see "A View to a Kill," "The Living Daylights," and *ugh* "Die Another Day").

Omg, please no Kings of Leon. Their music is okay, but they are no means a great selection for a Bond film. You're better off going with Muse or U2.

We need another instrumental song for the next Bond Film and there haven't been one since On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

One of my favorite Bond intro themes was 3 Blind Mice at the beginning of Dr. No. It just adds to the movies overall charm.

Yet more evidence that they are trying to turn James Bond into Jason Bourne.

I much prefer Casino Royale to any of the Bourne movies. But I prefer the Bourne movies to Quantum of Solace.

I don't think they're trying to turn Bond into Bourne. Bond has always been more fantastical. Bond is more akin to superheroes, always hunting down villains and stopping them. The villains of Bond are a threat to the world.

Whereas Bourne is more self centered. His conflict is with the people that are after him. He isn't stopping villains after world domination.

As far as the editing, Quantum attempted Bourne editing, but failed in my opinion. Bourne did it quite well, whereas Quantum did it quite pathetically. Just my opinion.

But editing alone doesn't make it similar either in my opinion.

The press release will be held Thur, 11am (Brit time).

Please, dear Joe Pesci, don't let it be Skyfall!

What's wrong with the title? :/
As long as the plot isn't as outlandish as someone trying to make the sky fall, then the title won't bother me.

I'm more concerned of the writing, not the title.

I feel like I'm the only person who really enjoyed Quantum of Solace. Maybe it was because I was significantly intoxicated while watching it, but I had no trouble following the action.

It definitely has it's fair share of fans. So I doubt you're the only one

I felt like it wasn't any worse than Die Another Day. It might have been better actually. But I felt like it was a step in the wrong direction from Casino Royale.

CR took Bond to a whole new level. It took the old formula, and pumped it up. It delivered the action in a more visceral and realistic way than most Bond movies.
It added more depth to Bonds character, more emotion to the story. It had many elements that seemed to raise the subject material.

Then Quantum kind of felt like back to super ott action, and very little dialogue/plot/character... etc..

I dunno, sounds like something more for a videogame. I'm just hoping they continue with one the last Fleming titles like "Property of a Lady" or "Risico"....

I have no problem admitting that I also really enjoyed Quantum, and I've seen it many times subsequently (sober and not). Sure, it's certainly not as smart as CR, but it delivered on the action that the few critics of CR said that it was lacking. It was basically Daniel Craig's License to Kill, except better. But I look at it more as a bookend to CR, the rest of the story more-or-less of James becoming "Bond" and setting up his primary adversaries, QUANTUM (formerly "SPECTRE").

Also, the Goldfinger nod with Strawberry Fields being drowned in oil was the shit.

Maybe Skyfall is the working title of the movie until the official title is revealed!

Your not alone sir. I loved Quatum of Solace. Haters gonna hate, but I thought it was a great follow-up. A kind of continuation of the events of Casino Royale. I guess it was a bit non-linear because you HAD to see Casino in order to get Quantum. But I fucking loved it, I dont care what anybody says.

I'm somewhat taking back by the idea that this will not be a continuation of Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace. I really wanted to see who was the head of this Quantum organization, but I'm happy to hear Ralph Fiennes will have a presence--hopefully a villain--and that M's past will be explored.

M's past is explored? This could be awesome or it could suck. I don't know what to think about that.

Then again, I have faith that Sam Mendes will do this well.

I also dont like that the story will not continue with CR and QoS. I think it is dumb to just drop that storyline.

Love the cast, love that Sam Mendes is attached, and am looking forward to what they can do with what was divulged at the press conference - M's past, MI6 under fire, and Bond taking on the likes of Bardem and possibly Fiennes.

The title doesn't bother me in the least. A title a Bond movie does not make. If I remember correctly, people weren't too thrilled with Quantum of Solace. But it grew on people. I think this one will too.

But overall, I'm just glad another Bond movie is its way. After all the MGM troubles, I was getting a little nervous and anxious.

Unfortunately, the official press release presented mostly disappointments

- Hate the title
- Upset that they're not continuing with QUANTUM
- Bummed that Naomie Harris is not, in fact, playing Moneypenny

Aside from those things, I'm hyped about everything else. Great cast, great director. Let's hope the script is awesome too. Has all the elements to be an amazing film

To be fair, Goldfinger had nothing to do with SPECTRE in the original movies. I'm okay with having this being a temporary diversion side-step. But, yeah, I wished they'd used another one of the remaining unused Fleming titles before going with another totally new one.

Couldn't agree more. I found both very entertaining with Casino Royale being the better of the two.

My feelings exactly. I don't mind a one movie break from Quantum as long as later on they return to it.

As for the title, I'm kind of meh. It's not a great title but I don't mind it too much. At least it's not as bad as A Good Day to Die Hard to compare it to another action franchise that I love.

It's this "break" that makes me even more curious about what role Ralph Fiennes plays in the movie. How big is his role (at least compared to Bardem's)? Is he a Blofeld type character with only a small part in this movie so that he can have a bigger part in a future Bond film?

So many questions!!!!!

I'm glad that they are stepping away from QoS, because I think that it is by far the worst Bond film made. The further they distance this new one from it the better.

Really?!? Worse than the (mostly) ridiculous Moore movies? Or the overly earnest Dalton movies?
