Fresh, New CoD to Catch in 2012

Source

In case you were STILL hungry...

Quote:
It doesn't take a seasoned industry watcher to guess that Activision's blockbuster Call of Duty series--an annualized franchise since 2005--wouldn't make it through 2012 without a new release. The publisher confirmed as much in its quarterly earnings report, adding that today's launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 boasted the largest day-one shipments in gaming history.

Modern Warfare 3 launched today, as did the marketing plan for its successor.
"As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement accompanying the publisher's quarterly report.

Much like any EA sports franchise game, Activision loves to put out a CoD game every year with very little substance that the previous year didn't already provide.

Since the best came out of MW2, I doubt I'll have a need to buy another game.

Keep em coming, best shooter on the market for multiplayer function, and will never be dethroned. Start calling them Call of Duty 12, 13, 14, 15, would be better than all the silly Modern Warfare, and Black Ops, and whatever else they're gonna come up with.

Haven't played MW3 yet, but Battlefield 3 far eclipses all of the CoD games I've played in terms of its multiplayer. In terms of single player campaigns, I will admit that I enjoyed Modern Warfare 1&2 campaigns more than I have with any Battlefield campaign.

Call of Duty=most overrated video games of our era. They are by no means the best in terms of multiplayer (I've always been a Halo man myself, but I can admit that there are probably better games out there than those in terms of online capabilities.), and they are most certainly not deserving of how much praise they receive. They're just generic shoot 'em up video games.

I agree with this. Multiplayer in the Battlefield games has much more depth and intensity than anything in CoD.

I agree and disagree with this at the same time. I haven't played MW3 yet. But I have yet to play a first person shooter as intense as the first Modern Warfare. Every COD since has sucked, but IMO no FPS has surpassed what the first MW was.

I've played BF3 and it's by far the best FPS I've played in a long time. But for a console game it lacks the intensity. The maps are too big for the amount of players.

24 players is nothing compared to the 64 player matches on the PC. MW 1 was a much better console FPS for it's time than BF3 is for consoles now.

MW1 was the most innovative FPS of it's time.

My problem with BF3 on console is the size of maps compared to the small amount of players.

Every once in awhile I'll be in an excellent match. It'll be very intense, and everybody works together as a team and does what they're supposed to. 9 times out of 10 however, I'm put in useless matches where a third of the team is off in some random corner of the map screwing around, or being selfish and not going for objectives.

Me and a friend of mine who play the game properly, always find ourselves as being the ONLY people on the team that actually attempt to take objectives. If we don't do anything, then nothing gets done and our team loses.

To each his own.
I think the domination of the video game sales every year, and domination in amount of people logged playing the game speaks for itself.

Not trying to get into a war over if COD is great or sucks or is better than anything but, the numbers don't lie. People are satisfied, and there is a small amount that want to do their own thing that don't like the game.

If numbers don't lie, then Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Twilight are top notch entertainment.

People go for the bigger name. COD has a legacy. I know people who buy each COD game just to have them. They don't even play games at all. But they'll buy COD because it's the "IN" thing to do in the gaming world.
COD was marketed right. If all of your friends are playing it, then whether you like it or not you'll be playing it too. Sales has nothing to do with gameplay, and therefore it's not really a credible factor.

I'm not dissing the COD franchise. I've enjoyed every COD game I've played. I just think overall the series has been nothing but disappointing since the strength of the first MW game.

COD is pretty good except when they overzealously try to cram their "war is hell" message into the game. Please. The war is the best part.

If all of them are the same based on gameplay, then the first MW is the same as all the other MW's? So how could all the sequels be garbage when all they did is expand on the gameplay by adding more game options, more customization and RPG elements with tweaking layouts to your style, hell even down to tweaking your characters clothing, gunwear and accessories?

People always wanna knock the gameplay, but they praise the gameplay of Street Fighter 4, and Dark Souls, and Uncharted 3, but the gameplay in all of those games have been the same in every single one of the games in the series. I just beat Arkham City, then replayed it to 90% completion, the gameplay is the EXACT same as Arkham Asylum, why? Because it worked, it was smooth and people loved it. But nobody turned their noses up at Arkham City when it was the same gameplay.

It's a deeper game than most people think, they just write it off because it IS the "cool" thing to do in the gaming world. People just want to snub whats popular at the moment.

The music thing is a moot point, it's a totally different demographic, totally different audience, mentality, there is so much else that goes with musical taste and outlook than goes into a preference of a video game.

I'm mostly all about the campaign when it comes to COD: MW, so thankfully my borther buys them for the multiplayer, while I usually finish the single player.

While I liked how the story wrapped up, it wasn't as fun as the previous two. The second one was awesome with all the homages to action movies, from The Rock bathroom shootout or the Red Dawn-inspired war battles. However, the spec-ops survival mode is certainly entertaining as hell, as I enjoy co-op/horde mode types over frustrating competitive multiplayer.

I didn't really think about the issue of playing Battlefield on a console, but you're right. I play Battlefield BC 2 on PC, and it's amazing when you play the large maps with 64 people. Console versions can't have that many people and playing the larger maps with less people is not much fun.

But yeah, the large maps with 64 people, snipers, infantry, tanks, choppers, airstrikes, and building destruction it can get insanely intense. It's just not the same experience on a console. So I could agree with the sentiment that Battlefield is the better PC FPS while COD is the better console FPS.

Me, I won't play FPS games on a console at all. I prefer the mouse and keyboard for more precise aiming. I'll only play over-the-shoulder shooters on my PS3 such as the Dead Space games.

I liked World at War the best so far. The tanks were great, and so were the maps.

I never said they were all the same. I said all of them after MW were a disappointment. And that's my personal opinion. If you liked them, thats great. But I'll tell you why they didn't work for me.

The first Modern Warfare added a lot to the FPS world.
- It popularized the Unlock Ranking up system where you unlock weapons -and things as you go.
-It added perks which added a new dynamic to first person shooters.
-It was the first FPS game I had played where you could shoot through pieces of the environment.
-And there were killstreaks which was satisfying and unique as well.

The following COD game was somewhat disappointing. It was fun. But it didn't innovate anything. All it did was take everything from Modern Warfare and put it in WW!! with tanks. Oh and there was Nazi Zombies which was really the only thing that was unique about it.

Which was fine. I enjoyed it. At that point that type of thing was still fresh and fun.

Then MW2 came out. All MW2 did was take MW1, update the graphics, add a few new guns and have different Multiplayer maps. It was fun too. But it really felt more like an expansion pack than a whole new game.

Then Black Ops came out, and it added nothing new and felt like another expansion pack.

They were all fun. But the only COD game in the whole franchise that really stood out was the first MW. It was the only one with major FPS innovations. As you said, the following games only expanded on the concepts.

For some people that works. Some don't want to play a brand new game. If you liked MW1 enough to buy and play every 60$ expansion pack it's had then that's great. I'm glad you enjoy it.

I don't think the music thing is a "moot" point. You claimed that "Numbers Don't Lie", Numbers are universal. If the statement "Numbers don't lie" is correct, then numbers for music, movies, games, clothes, cars, women, dogs, cats, everything in the universe would be the same. Thus, making my statement correct.

Yeah, I really wish I could play it on the PC. I only have a mac unfortunately. So PC gaming is out for the moment.

But I'm not knocking the PS3 version of BF3. It's nowhere near as good as the PC version i'm sure, but it has it's moment. When people work together as a team, and play the game properly, it's actually very intense and enjoyable.

Only problem is, people don't normally play properly :/.

I still have fun with it though. Looking forward to the map pack this december

report: Black Ops 2: First multiplayer details, release date leaked

This year's annual Call of Duty release is widely expected to be Treyarch's Black Ops 2, and while the game has yet to be officially announced, that hasn't stopped rumoured details making their way online.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Screenshot The following information, claiming to reveal the game's release date and a load of multiplayer features, was first posted on the official Black Ops forums in a thread that was later taken down, and its cached version is unavailable. It was then reposted in another thread on Activision's forums, which was also killed off by the publisher, but its cache remains available (via MP1st).

None of this information is confirmed, but there's no reason it couldn't be genuine as it all sounds feasible. Here's the lot:

Leaked Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Information

* This year, Call of Duty will return with it's ninth installment with Black Ops 2. As expected it will be following Treyarch's previous game Black Ops. It's release date is set for the 6th of November.

Game Modes

* Escort, a new game mode similar to Search and Destroy however a live player must be escorted to one of three areas (or two depending on the map) without being killed. The match will have rounds, consisting of one life only.
* Drop Zone and Kill Confirmed will return
* Team Defender and Infected will not return

Pointstreaks

* Will follow from Modern Warfare 3's system
* Larger emphasis on objectives
* A bomb plant is worth 2 points
* A neutral flag is worth 1, however an enemy flag is worth 2
* flag assist capture is worth 1, a capture is worth 2
* The Specialist Pointstreak has be modified. 2 kills now gets you 1 perk. The 4th kill gets you 2 more perks. The 6th kill gets you 3 more perks. The 8th Kill gets you 4 more perks. You do not get every perk when you reach 8 kills. Perks only become "Pro" when you have them Pro
* RC XD will not return
* Heat vision is a new Pointstreak reward. When you get the required points, you can activate this Pointstreak and your player pulls out a scope and attaches it to your weapon. This scopes main advantage is it's ability to detect enemies through most walls. Note, the scope can only be attached to primaries not including shotguns
* Item Packages requires 5 points. Fall along side care packages and air drop traps. Features a list of package items only including ammo, mini gun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, and body armor

Prestiges

* There will be 15 prestiges
* There will be 50 ranks
* Every two prestiges there is a 5 rank increase
* The final prestige has 90 levels

ELITE 2.0

* ELITE is being fully incorporated into Black Ops 2
* Combat record has been modified and re-named as ELITE Stats
* There will be a specific lobby for clan matches (new way of leveling clans)
* Clan Tournaments can now be implemented

Removed

* No MOAB or Nuke
* No last stand
* No death streaks
* No flame thrower attachment

Map Design

* Map design and size will be following Black Ops not Modern Warfare 3

Sniper Rifles

* Improved sniper rifle usage.
* No aim assist for any sniper rifle.
* Less sway

Customization

* No longer just perk 1 chooses the players appearance
* Appearance is a combination of all perks and type of Pointstreak being used.

Hardcore

* Larger emphasis on hardcore than ever before
* No grenade launchers
* Only vehicle guided rocket launchers permitted
* Respawn timings decreased (for most modes)
* 1 bullet in the foot will no longer kill a person, a head or chest shot is usually required.
* A person will now bleed out if severely injured.

Perk System 2.0

* The Perk Pro system has been upgraded
* There is now 2 options a perk can advance to.
* Both require different challenges to unlock
* Once the desired Pro version is unlocked, the player can select that as their "Perk Pro".
* Once selected, the only way to choose the other option is by entering prestige mode.
* For example Perk slot 1 has the perk called Speed
* Speed - Reduces the time taken to aim down the sight. Pro I - Swaps weapons faster. Pro II - Throws equipment faster

Combat Training

* Will be returning with vast improvements.
* Difficulty is no longer based on how long the bots take to start shooting.
* Bots now have an advance AI system
* Similar to the behavior seen in the MW3 Spec Ops survival

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has said of this year's Call of Duty: "This year we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all-new epic first-person shooter title under the Call of Duty brand. From what we've seen to date, the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovations to the franchise."

It's funny how the "first pic" of the new game in the article could have come from any of the past four or five games--they all look the same.

RUMOR: New Call of Duty Title and It’s NOT Named Black Ops 2? **UPDATED**

For the past few months, we’ve been hearing rumors of a possible confirmation of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Most notably we have heard from an Amazon France website which caused a small stir of events between GameBlog and Activision as well as Activision purchasing the Black Ops 2 domain.

However, recent sources we’ve received from a GameStop employee may have given us a new view on what this new Call of Duty title may actually be. This employee captured a GameStop tower display which seems to be the same “Return For Debriefing” image captured yesterday, though with additional details. Now, I want you to quickly compare the two leaked images.

Image leaked earlier

Image taken by GameStop Employee

Now, both images have the announcement telling us to “Return For Debriefing” on May 2nd, however I’m very curious to what the image we received could possibly mean. Sources from this GameStop employee also mentioned to us of numerous marketing materials saying “Activision Project” and “Coming Soon.” Also, in the Marketing Book under title releases coming soon, the game was referenced as “Call of Duty: Eclipse” instead of Black Ops 2 or even the usual “Upcoming Title” filler for games that haven’t been announced to the public yet. With this info, I could imagine the image basically with “Eclipse” part being the title of the game and “Multi” possibly just meaning it’ll be on multiple platforms.

I really wanted to focus on what Eclipse could possibly mean, besides the Twilight series. So I went to check out Webster Definition online. From what I can tell, we already know the eclipse of the sun and moon obviously which I’ll get to in a moment. Though the definition has also been defined as a decline of some obscurity. This could possibly relate to Black Ops’ campaign ending where Mason, Hudson and Weaver were targeted for their connection with the JFK assassination by the CIA in Operation Charbydis, terminating themselves from the CIA as they expect some hardships coming up. Though as you can tell from Treyarch’s history with Call of Duty, they aren’t the type of company to make sequels (first Call of Duty: World At War in 2008, then Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010.)

This doesn’t mean Call of Duty will officially be titled “Eclipse” instead of “Black Ops 2.” The boxes with the words “Eclipse Multi” could also have some reference to Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Zombie mode. Why would you say this? If you recall on the Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombie DLC Map Shangri-La, there is an Easter Egg that which, with four players and done correctly, can cause an Eclipse in the sky allowing you to eventually acquire the Focusing Stone giving that one player all of the perks available for the rest of the game as well as an achievement for all and more!

These are just some opinions I came up with. We’ll more than likely know the official answer when we get debriefed on May 2nd. You guys are more than welcomed to leave your opinions below!

**UPDATE – 4/21/12 #1**

More posters beginning to be leaked on the Call of Duty “Return For Debriefing” date on May 2nd!

**UPDATE 4/21/12 8:34 PM EST**

One of our very own Gamerplex staff members recently visited a GameStop store to check up on the recent rumors relating to the upcoming Call of Duty. The employee they spoke with did confirm to us that they did receive Call of Duty materials from Activision with the “Eclipse” labeled over them. He also confirmed to us that Activision will be making an announcement on May 2nd about Call of Duty, however this is no release date as more than likely will be the first trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty. Having all of this material though, the employees do not know what to do with them as they received no further instructions from corporate.

Rumor: If Activision is Releasing "Call of Duty: Eclipse" They Picked a Good Day...

I was on the fence about posting this because, I mean, "Black Ops 2 coming out in November?" Stop the presses, that's like "Call of Duty is coming out this year"-type news. But the game does seem to have a clever codename, unless the codename is actually its title.

Rumor has it that the marketing materials we were leaked earlier this week have shown up in various GameStops this weekend, and that at GameStop the game is being referred to, internally, as "Call of Duty: Eclipse".

That carries the whiff of a project codename to me, not necessarily a title. (Or, as commenter the_seamonkey points out, it could be the PlayStation Vita version of the game.) What's really interesting is that, on Nov. 13, 2012, there will be a total solar eclipse. Passing over much of the South Pacific Ocean, the only populated region in which it will be visible is Cairns, Australia. But still: total solar eclipse. And Nov. 13 happens to be the second Tuesday of November, which is the day on the calendar Call of Duty has released since 2008.

So the big mystery now is, what's this "Eclipse" business. It's important to note this is not a name on any of these posters now being shown to the public. If it's just a codename, then it hints at nothing other than the neat coincidence of an astronomical event on the day everyone expects this game to release. If it is in the title, then what? More space missions? They've already done a moon base map, and a moon base map with zombies at that.

We'll probably just have to wait until next Wednesday, May 2. The date is on these posters and it probably indicates a reveal event for this game.

This is what i think:

Activision will release 'CALL OF DUTY:BLACK OPS 2' on NOVEMBER 13TH,2012 !

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 "World Reveal" = 5/1,Pre-order(active)=5/2,Release = 11/13

Following a plethora of speculation regarding an incoming unveil for the next Call of Duty game -- heavily believed to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 -- Activision has confirmed a reveal for their next installment in the series is imminent.

The company's official Call of Duty site has confirmed the next CoD will be receive its "World Reveal" on May 1st, which is accompanied by a countdown timer. It'll be showcased during the basketball playoffs on TNT.

On the teaser page, Activision's implemented 14 smaller windows, which are all blacked out via the word "Classified". They'll be unveiled over the course of the next few days. One such teaser is protecting an image, while a character in the background of the page can also be viewed below.

So, how certain is it that May 1st will unveil a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal? If the site's source code is anything to go by, a sequel to the shooter is more or less confirmed due to the notable absence of "Modern Warfare".

"2012 Activision Publishing, Inc. Activision and Call of Duty are registered trademarks and Black Ops is a trademark of Activision Publishing, Inc. All other trademarks and trade names are the properties of their respective owners," reads the description.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Cal...ing-41679.html

(update 1)
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 could be set to hit PC and consoles on 13 November 2012, if a blurry image alleged to be a promotional poster is on the money.

The poster, on MP1st*, shows a black and white image of a figure and appears to feature a Black Ops 2 logo and date - '13.11.12' - in Orange. That would make it the second Tuesday of November, Call of Duty's usual launch window, and a week after the recently confirmed Halo 4 release date.

(update 2)

All im able to tell u guys is that the Pre-orders have to do with "dog-tags".

The Countdown to Black Ops 2 pt.1: Black Ops 2: Signs point to near-future setting

Activision could be preparing to shock the Call of Duty world with a shock announcement next week – a near-future setting for the title currently known as Black Ops 2.

The hint comes from tongue-in-cheek YouTube show FPS Russian. The latest episode demos a quadrotor RC attack drone that bears more than a little resemblance to a quadrotor pictured in one of Activision’s Call of Duty teaser pics yesterday.

“Technology in this baby isn’t going to be out there for at least another decade,” the presenter is keen to press. “This is truly a weapon of the future.”

He adds: “If you can’t wait 10-15 years my sources tell me that this beauty might be in the next Call of Duty game.”

And the real kicker – the video signs off with the following message: “A big thank you to the makers of Call of Duty for sponsoring this video.”

Just in case you’re wondering – yes, the footage in the video is fake.

source: MVC

The gun pictured on the callofduty site and in the video(which I'll add later today) is a 'Prototype Quadrotor with Machine Gun'.

A Quadrotor is (as its name would imply) a mini helicopter/drone with four rotors, and if it plays half as well as it looks in the video then gamers are in for a treat. The portable chopper touts a sub machine gun with a 100 round magazine, and if it’s finished serving its purpose on the battlefield then it can self-destruct.

Photo Claims First Look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Box Art, But Is It a Fake?

Evidence continues to mount that a Call of Duty: Black Ops sequel is oscar mike.

First there was an Amazon listing. Then there was an odd black balling. Then, there was what looked to be a Black Ops 2 teaser poster surfaced—after that, a GameStop teaser website. Now?

Now, a photo depicting the game's box art has hit the internet. The box art does resemble the silhouetted art on the teaser site; however, it is of a higher resolution.

The box shows the European version of the game. In Italian, the front says, "Prenota Subito" or "Reserve Now". In the corner, it adds notes, "One Per Customer."

Photo Claims First Look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's Box Art, But Is It a Fake?

The photo does send off all sorts of warning bells: there's a convenient lens flare, which is a technique fakers use to pass off phony games; the game box looks like a PS2 case and not an Xbox 360 box.

Yet, the font matches up with the rumored poster, and it does depict a high-resolution image of the image teased on the GameStop page. And that image shows Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

The Countdown to Black Ops 2 pt.2: "Taticus"

You guys may be wondering - What is Tacitus?. Well if you haven't seen my other thread, let me explain.

Tacitus was first seen on FPSRussia's shirt in his latest video, where he shows off a new Killstreak in Black Ops 2.

The question has been thrown around the past day, and can now be answered.

Tacitus was an old dead company that specialised in Computer Programming Services. The company website was shut down, and no information could be found anywhere else. However, today, the website is back up.

An image has also been leaked from @ PrestigeIsKey on Twitter, and shows the Quadrotor with the Tacitus logo watermarked. (see attached image)

Telixion changed the numbers to letters and triangulated the following locations through GPS.

(UPDATE)

here is the updated change.

Here are the first images of the Quadrotor in-game. It’s unclear what stage of developement Black Ops 2 was in when the images were taken, but it seems it was in the early stages.

The Countdown to Black Ops 2 pt.4: "the enemy could be anywhere.."

This could possibly be a new slogan or give an idea to the plot line of Black Ops 2 Campaign.

I believe this will relate to the Campaign. The main character (perhaps Mason), could take the roll of a Lone Wolf. Trusting no-one. What's your thoughts?

Everyone seems to be focusing on the 4:13 - the time the numbers stop at the bottom. This number could mean anything. One thing that is curious is that on April 13th 1953 (4/13/53) Project MKULTRA was started by the CIA, which involved Mind-Control and Manipulation something that played a huge roll in the original Black Ops Campaign. This could possibly coincide in with the Black Ops 2 Campaign.

(update)
Watch the image carefully. Some letters briefly appear as different letters, for instance, the "E" in the first "BE" appears as a "Q" for a moment.

(update2)
Look down my twitter timeline... 16 layered gif with secret message.
The message is WZQOH.
At the end NYONE from anyone is missing fitting this length with the message of it could be a _______.
Maybe tacitus is the key on a cipher?

Update #2: According to the CoDZombies forums, via NGT, the new coordinates point to the LA Convention Center, where E3 is held. It’s also worth noting that E3, June 5-7, will take place a day after a partial lunar eclipse on June 4th. Interestingly, the LA Convention Center happens to be right next to the Staples Center, which hosts the NBA playoff match on May 1st, the world reveal night of Black Ops 2.

The Countdown to 'Black Ops ii' pt.5: General Atomics Avenger(uav)

The latest intel has been unlocked from the Call of Duty website. Here it is!

What do you think it is? All I notice from first glance is an Airplane/Jet and what appears to be a Wheel to the right (or maybe the rotors of the Quadrotor). Also, above the Airplane/Jet there is a dark spot compared to the colour around it. Anyone know if this is perhaps a screenshot from the original Black Ops Campaign, or perhaps the Airplane is a new Killstreak? That's the only guess I have as of now. Let me know yours.

It could possibly be a B-52. The Rolling Thunder Killstreak from Black Ops, however the wings appear to resemble more of a B-2, a Stealth Bomber. Can this relate into the Treyarch Emblem in MW3? Where you have to get a final Killcam with a Stealth Bomber. Maybe the two combine into a new Killstreak, or some 'futuristic' Airplane used in Campaign and such, as Black Ops 2 has been speculated to be set around the next 10-15 years?

UPDATE - 'pwnagmonkey' on Twitter says this is a General Atomics Avenger. I believe it is, the resemblance is huge.

The Countdown to Black Ops 2 pt.6: "The Future"

The quote reads "The future is not as far off as most people think - we're not ready for it"

You can see there are some hidden letters in there that quickly change. Just like the previous quote, perhaps from the same speech. What is the numbers/letters?

The previous letters from the quote "The enemy could be anywhere and could be anyone" were - WZQOH.
(Thanks to @NuckFuggets).

The secret code in this quote is - BOIZY.

Maybe these letters are an acronym, that was my first thought. 'Black Ops I??? Z??? Y???'. For the Z I was thinking Zombies, I believed this until I realised there is an I in between. What could it mean?

Perhaps if we keep getting more codes and numbers, I was thinking it could possibly link in to a URL for a Youtube video? However I don't think we have enough to link to one, we just gotta wait till the next piece.
