Doctors who give too much much meds and not a proper medical opinion
Well l am starting this thread because of what is happening to my step father right now.
At first he was told he had the flu which turned into Pneumonia and was quite bad alot of australians at the moment are suffering with this even well known celebs have even gone into hospitol Well the doctor gave him meds for it so well we thought that would clear it up but it didnt then he was told to have blood tests which he did now he has blood posioning which has made him feel terrible and very sick so yes he was on meds for this He also has the runs which is runny poo well that has continued for around two weeks and now blood which is alot is the only thing that is coming out. he can barely walk now and he is off to the same doctor which we have all said is a fool but off he goes and l am not sure what is going to happen next he wanted to call a amblance last night because the bleeding wouldnt stop maybe he should have gone What my point is why didnt this doctor send him to a specialist instead of just thinking meds would clear this up Sometimes you wonder if a doctor gets there degeee just for the money instead of caring for there patients I was also wondering if anyone has been treated or given the run arround by there doctors it would be interesting to see if we are in the same boat as other people I am really worried this thing he has which the doctor does not know what it is will kill him My mum is in a mess and is so worried that she will lose her husband through all this |

when you're driving in you chevy and you're feeling something heavy, DIA---wait how does that go??
--and bondgirl, I'm sorry your step father isn't feeling well.. BUT..I think its pretty known that there are some shitty doctors out there.. I'm sure your step father was capable of getting a second opinion if he felt he wasn't being treated properly.. perhaps he should have done so before it got out of hand? hope he feels better soon! |

I hope he gets better. I've lost relatives to cancer and they looked really bad towards the end. It's hard to be able to see them like that. You don't even recognize them anymore. That's not how you want to remember them.

Firstly, I am sorry to hear of this news, BG. While some people may poke fun at you about this serious situation. No names mentioned. I and a few others on the other hand feel your pain. Illness is nothing to laugh at. Particularly when it's a family member, relative, close friend or the like that is the afflicted. Funny how when it's on the other foot, no? Well, as already suggested, you need to get more than one doctor's opinion. Doctors for the most-part like to think they are some sort of God due to the fact that they can tell you what's right and what's wrong with you. They treat you no better than a cue number card at a local shop that's busy.
It's true. With your step dad, like I outlined above, seek another doctors advice. A specialist if need be. Alot of people take their health far too lightly. I am not saying that he does, but we as humans are a stubborn and sometimes fool-hardy species. We tend to think we are invincible until we succumb to an illness or get too old or both. Let's face it, and I am not referring to your step-dad, but when you're dead...you are dead. Life is and should be an individual's number one priority. And of those around them. Life is sacred. To you. Try and get your step-dad the best possible specialist and/or doctor. When it comes to your well-being, it is number one above all other things in life. Because without it (life), you have absolutely nothing. I sincerely wish you and him all the best. Good luck and I hope he recovers asap. Add Edit: Bondgirl. I lost my own dad to cancer about 6 years ago. I never tell anybody online this. Please do what you can. ![]() Last edited by God of War; 06-28-2011 at 09:20 PM.. |

Most patients want meds instead of proper medical advice. It's up to the patient to ask questions and demand answers, the same with any other thing you are spending money on.

We have a free health service. Sometimes I just go in for a chat. "I'm very well, thanks for asking. And yourself?".

Hey Bondgirl, have him go see another doctor quickly. What you describe is quite serious. When it comes to your health, you should not worry about money or a doctors ego. You do what is best for you. If what he is doing is not working, go see someone else. When something serious is happening with your body, you should always get a second opinion. |

But l have some really bad news my step father was rushed to hospitol yeasterday from the doctors surgery. My mum was offered a seat in the ambalace and took it straight away she was in tears as they drove off Sometimes you wonder how you can comfort a person who is going through all this not just the person who is sick but the partner as well The doctors are runnig test and X rays blood tests Urine test which we found out contained blood This is serious and it is becoming nerve racking not knowing still yest what it is He has blood gushing out of his bottom if you want me to explain further arse He has not eaten for two weeks which make him look like a person about to die They are running a utra sound and also more tests and Xrays which hopefully contain and hopefully give us more imformation My stepfather is in the emercancy area of the hospitol because they can not supply him a bed yet late last night he was still there with a half a dozen men who do not have beds He was crying when my mum left because he is scared because he doesnt know what to do with him self A fully grown man who i have never seen cry in my life Anyway hopefully l will be able to give more imformation on what is happening very soon Also l am shocked at the way there is know beds for very sick patients this is another area which goverments need to look at |

my stepfather was asking qestions but he was ignored on that front it is not until you are on your death bed that they get worried All the doctor wanted to do was give him meds and he thought it would clear up also the medicene helped in certain areas but it was not clearing up the problem I also think that this condition could be prostate cancer because that problem has symtoms where you bleed from the bum and the front area of a man I hope it is not this but but you see so many ads on this concerning men Doctors like this can get sued for malpractice I also have to say that he is not with his original doctor now he has alot of specailist looking at the problem now Plus if he was sent to a specailist he would have had to wait a couple of weeks to see one because there is a long waiting list But this way since he is in hospitol he will get the proper care Oh and another thing about people making jokes well that is up to you to do that but at least l know l have alot of support from others I am more concerned about waht is happening to my step father to get upset here on this forum Last edited by Bondgirl; 06-29-2011 at 08:34 PM.. |

Geez, Bondgirl. You are really going through the wars here. Once again.
I wish you and your step-dad all the very best. It's the worst having to deal with this type of thing. General comment about some people on the net. For some people. It's so easy to sit back and just fob this stuff off. But reality checks hit everyone, and they hit HARD. I guess it's in our natures to make fun of another person's grief, misfortune, and any other thing we can think of. I know of some individuals who make jest to try and deal with serious shit in their own lives. But in the end, tragedy always lands on home plate. Its very hard to cope with certain things. Some deal better than others do. So, for those who think it's amusing, wake the fuck up. Good it's not cancer, BG. Tell me, does he smoke? |

No he doesnt smoke or drink.
it is amazing that my stepfather never really got sick until now it was always someone else in the family getting the flu or what ever but him to get what he has got even though we are not sure what it ikis is just plain terrible Iike l said this bloke was crying because he didt know waht to do about himself and didnt want us to leave him in the hospitol he feels as though he is never coming back yes some people will make fun of others but if it is you suffering or someone you love is going through hell there would not be a laugh or joke Like l said efore it is great l have been able to write here because at sometimes l have felt like breaking down but to write and tell you all how l am feeling or my family are feeling is so good in a way You dont feel alone and l can tell you l feel alone sometimes because you dont know waht to say or make that person have a bit of faith that they will make it he feels as though he is not coming out of that hospitol and l hate him feeling like this Watching a person fade away is sad |

Well you are right about what you have said in your post Erroneous
Yesterday my stepfather was able to have abit of Weetbix which is a cereal in the morning for brekkie but only had a little bit of it Also last night he had two teaspoons of soup l know that is not much but it is a start But it does go right through him when he ate the weetbix and soup What we have found out now is that he has a terrible germ in the gut meaning stomach and that is what is infecting the blood and stomach at the moment They still have not got control of the bleeding from both ends but like l said he has had a bite of weetnix and soup at the moment He is still on the drip which is feeding him fliuds Oh we are connecting the tv so he can watch things if he is bored Do you know it costs 10 dollars a day and if you do not have health insurance you can not have this Times have changed since l was in hospitol a couple of years ago Also my mum has taken in his favourite little plant but l am not sure if they will let him have it in there since it is a contagious ward I will find out more imformation very soon but isnt it good news that he has had a little tiny bit of food he has not had any food for over two weeks |

yes it is good that he is improving a tiny bit but he has a long way to go
The doctors are going to perform a test on him on Wedesday with a camera which will go inside his stomach and see why he still has constant heavy bleeding It is not normal to have this bleeding so as it goes we are still concerned that we dont have a caurse for this and waht nasty germ has attacked his body Also he is still on medicene which seems to be working but he is still terribly sick So it is a waiting game My daughter is getting upset because when she seen him yesterday he looked so frail in appearance it is so hard on young kids and at the moment l am trying to support her the best l can too |

Okay geez this is hard but because of the suport l am still writing this
I thought my stepfather was getting abit better but it looks as though things have gone backwards again We are into the medical books trying to find out what is causing all these systoms he is having the drip put into each arm now because he is now bleeding from the hands where it is put in Meaning he is losing blood circlation So it has to be removed inot one arm and then on to other other Also he has a wsollen leg which is causing him exsteme pain so he is on powerful pain killer so he is so tired and weak He also has purplply black spots under his feet which the doctor would not look at until now He still has all symtoms and is getting to look so terrible We are alos worried about the care he is been given and now we are taking photos of it I can not beleive it is getting to this Umm my mum si holding onto me and is so concerned Anyway l am looking at all the symtoms here on what l have writtin and search the internet for answers the doctors have now confirmed he does not have infection in the body So this has been a week so you would thing these bloody flamin doctors would know by now he shouldnt be this way Oh and another doctor came in yesterday and found out my stepfather was a private patient in a public hospitol He told the other doctors that my stepfather should be getting better care This makes me wonder iif you are a public patient is this what you get I feel like naming the hospitol Also feel like contacting the current affair show what airs at 6.30pm on week days in Australia I wonder what they would think of this treatment of patients |

Can you fill me in on the health care system there?
I am totally against Obama Care and what you said it the reason why I am against. Sometimes you have to get worse, before you get better. Sometimes it take the medicines to kick in. The Dr would not look at?????? I hear that and I say it is time to get a lawyer involved. |

Well first of all l will give you a update on my stepfather
he was at the start of renal failare two days ago his body organs were closing down and know one was helping and not giving us answers Well my mum was demanding the doctors to look at my stepfathers feet because he was getting black and purple spots which were increasing to include his arms hands face and lips The only way to descibe him is that he looked just like shek he was swelling all over his body I can tell you that he was being looked after by first year doctors who didnt have a bloody clue in what they were donig It was only one doctor who called in seven specailists to look at him But this took a bloody week to get this far he was like l said dying right before our eyes he was given four blood tranfusions and he has now been put on steroids The reason why the public health system is not up to scratch is because the Australian goverment is not putting enough money into it they are taking it away They are letting first year doctors look and exsam public patients they are not given advice from more experieced doctors Oh and the special who has taken over now is getting quite mad at the care and he is contacting every person who has been in contact meaning doctors other specailist who have let him get this far The specailist also said that because my stepfather was a private patient in a public hospitol he should be getting proper care My qestion is what about the public patients who are being treated they are not all in private care I will keep you updated on what now happens Also if this collenlitis does not clear up he will lose all of his bowel and will be left with using a bag to pee and poo in I feel sad for him at this moment and the things that have happened Please if you see something not right drum it into the doctor that they should look at it It was family members who pushed and pushed to get something done here |

The prime duty of doctors is to protect the health conditions of their patients. It is just so sad to see how doctors become incompetent nowadays. I guess some patients today do not die because of natural death but of medical malpractice.
Medical malpractice is something which health professionals commit. Medical malpractice is a kind of lawsuit that is very challenging aside from the fact that this is very costly. The burden of proof lies to the victim to prove that the doctor has deviated from the medical standards. The so-called "deviation" which caused injury is the basis for malpractice. It is also debatable in this case if the doctor should also be expose criminal penalties. For more information about how to know if you can sue or not you should check out this article from Mr. Haskell . http://haskellaw.com/article-medical...-malpractice-4 Doctors must be equipped with enough knowledge and training and they must execute their job with due care for them to prevent mistakes. A single mistake could result to death of a certain patient. |

The problem is equal part doctor and equal part patients.
The reality is diet, exercise and not ingesting harmful chemicals on a daily basis (cigarettes, drug abuse, alcohol, not living down the river from a uraniam plant) cures/prevents 90% of what people go to the doctor for. But the patients don't want to do that. They would rather take a pill. |
