I guess so, but logos are logos; I just want a director/screenwriter/producer who has a f&$%ing clue how to do a Superman story. Superman deserves better than Zack Synder, much, much better. Synder made exactly one movie I liked: 300, and that was because the movie was so over the top, but anyone whose read the graphic novel knows its pretty much the same way, so it worked. However, sometimes, i feel like 300 was a success due to luck rather than skill, the old adage about even a blind squirrel finding a nut once in a while. I have no problems with the actors that have been cast so far. I think its a solid cast. Probably better than Synder deserves. If he comes up with a good film, I'll gladly eat my words. In the meantime, the logo looks pretty decent, but logos are only balms, they soozes, but they do not heal.

Though I would never say Watchmen was better than The Dark Knight, Watchmen was still a good movie with its flaws: slow motion, questionable casting, following the graphic novel too much. Otherwise, it was just that. But in regards to the Man of Steel' logo, I love it! I'm still skeptical about the movie itself, but I still think it'll at least be an action fest which was a big problem for Superman Returns.

I agree that Snyder has done some good work with 300 and Watchmen (particularly the Director's Cut), and I've heard that his Dawn of the Dead was really good (never saw it). But his last movie, Sucker Punch was just horrible. So I'm hoping who ever hired him didn't base their decision on that movie. But I think he can pull this off; he's got a great cast, great creative minds and producers behind the movie (the Nolan bros.), and maybe he'll learn from the mistakes from Sucker Punch.
We'll find out next year. |

I'm not a fan of Snyder either. I didn't care for 300 or Dawn of the Dead. I liked part of Watchmen but it was wildly uneven and ultimately unsatisfying. I hope he's got a great script to work with and he forces himself to cut back on the slow motion.

people need to give Snyder more credit for instance i would say Martin Campbell(Casino Royale) and Brian Singer(Xmen,X2,Usual Suspects) on paper are better directors
yet both of them gave us such horrible DC Comic movies Green Lantern and Superman Returns |

I don't think GL was awful. It was rather boring. Lacked action. Superman returns was bad. Boring and not really exiciting. Lacked action. Superman needed someone to fight him. Not lex again.
GL felt like it just showed you who GL was. Setting you up for a sequal rather than blowing you away with the first. GL was a 6/10 Superman returns was a 5.5/10 and ghost rider was a 4/10. IMO ofcourse. |

I honestly had a lot of faith in Green Lantern, it seemed like it had everything going for it, but honestly, there wasn't a single redeeming factor.

There were elements to Watchmen that I enjoyed. The graphic novel was better but overall I think Snyder did a good job, not a great job, but not bad either. I enjoyed it.
So far I don't like the direction Man of Steel is going but i'm also SICK of seeing re-hashes of the original series. Superman Returns it's Lex all over again. This one, back to Zod and his generals. I'm bored or re-tellings. Superman has some seriously tough villians he can face. I'd have prefered a Smallville movie, even with sub-par acting. I'll give Snyder a chance, but I wont hold my breath |

I did and still enjoyed the film. I recognised that parts of the film were unfilmmable and had to be retold. I was okay with the result. The Ultimate Cut is a stronger viewing as well, although I have not been able to watch it in one sitting.

I'm not worried about Snyder. He is a solid director (not the best writer though). I am worried about Goyer. Goyer wrote this by himself, and time and time again Goyer has proven that he is simply a dreadful writer. He can piggy back on great writers just fine, but he can't do it himself. Every single thing that he has written solo for the past twenty years has ranged from 'very mediocre' to 'pure crap'.

I thought it had alot of good redeeming factors. The movie is just very misunderstood. Or maybe it's just my love for Green Lantern that is making me see something great that all the non-fans aren't seeing.

I don't think it was misunderstood, I think people just have lower tolerance for shitty comic book movies. And I apologize, Green Lantern had one redeeming factor and that was Mark Strong as Sinestro, though, he was terribly underused. I don't want to make this a Green Lantern argument in a Superman' thread, but I think Green Lantern could learn a lot from Superman since they're partially similar with the whole person feeling alone in a strange world that doesn't necessarily want them. I think if the Green Lantern wasn't compared to things like Star Wars during production, I wouldn't have had such high expectations. Unfortunately, I felt like I wasted an hour and a half and $10 on a movie I could have easily waited for to come on late night tv.

imo GL's hal jordan is a hard character to get invested into
he literally gets forced into the hero role and told to become one with this ring chose him scenario not much emotional connectivity with the audience with that |

I think my main issue with the movie was that Peter Sarsgaard's character ultimately didn't feel necessary. It felt like he was tacked on to add the movie's runnning length. Anyway, I hope we get a teaser for Man of Steel soon. It's probably the movie I'm looking forward to most in 2013. Even more than the Star Trek sequel. |
