Energy Drinks

does anyone honestly still drink these? If so, have you found one that doesn't taste like shit yet?

I will, on occasion still drink a lo-carb Monster to wash down a protein bar if I'm on the road and get a real meal, but would never consider drinking that shit if I could have a legit diet for the day.

You guys drink em? Got a friend that does?

My all time favorite was Surge. I believe they stopped making it.

I also enjoyed Jolt, which they got rid of but recently brought back, but the new stuff just sucks (minus the blue raspberry kind).

My favorites are any of the Amps.

Monster is alright but it tastes too much like Smarties so I prefer some of the flavored ones like the Yellow/Orange/Purple cans.

Red Bull is good as well. I've had Nos, dont like it, and dont like Full Throttle. Rockstar was ok but some friends of mine joined a frat (back when they were in school) and the frat was sponsored by Rockstar and they had literal PILES of cases (full 24 packs). I was told I could have as much as I wanted so my greedy ass took 3 cases, which lasted a long ass time. Towards the end of the 3rd case I was forcing myself to get through them (which was dumb since they were free) and I haven't liked it ever since.

5 Hour Energy is crap and doesnt work.

The Starbucks Energy things are good (the Amp sized cans) but I dont consider those energy drinks as they are more like coffee in a can.

By the way, I have an extreme caffeine addiction, if you can't tell. If you name an energy drink, its almost a guarantee that I have had it.

As in this?

Was it really an energy drink? I thought it was just Coke's attempt to compete with Mountain Dew?

Either way, I've never experienced an energy drink I like. To be honest, they make me nervous.

I used to drink Monsters on occasion. A couple of the coffee ones are quite tastey.

I've never tasted an energy drink that doesn't taste absolutely terrible. If I want energy I'll just drink some tea or coffee.

Not sure if Surge was an energy drink or not... it was sort of the precursor to energy drinks though. It was fucking delicious too.

I don't waste my time with energy drinks... they don't energize me at all. Although I don't think they taste bad at all. Some are quite tasty.

Surge was not an "energy drink" anymore than Mountain Dew was. Oh, and this:

Vault = Surge

If you miss Surge, go get some Vault. It's the exact same thing under a different name (I loves me some Vault, er, Surge... or... Vurge... Sault?).

As for real energy drink, I think they're rancid. I have not had one that was not absolutely revolting. It's like making Kool Aid with way too much sugar. Be it Red Bull, Rooster Booster, Ram Jam, Venom, etc. It's all disgusting.

Five Hour Energy is also very disgusting, but it is also very small (basically two gulps), and I think it actually works.

Vault is not the same as Surge. They taste similar, but Surge definitely tasted different.

Anyone remember "Jolt" cola? Supposedly the caffeine of a soda plus that of a cup of coffee. Not that tastey as I remember.

Yessir. They came out around the time of Surge's demise. I remember drinking some of those. Don't remember any of the flavor's name, but I remember they were all a distinct color... blue, red, etc..

Jolt's old, from the 80s. It had claimed to have twice the caffeine. There used to be rumors in school that they banned it because kids were dying from it, but I think now it was just that they stopped carrying it locally. I always thought The Simpsons were riffing on it with Buzz Cola.

It might not skullfuck you like an energy drink, but it least it's not a can of chemical waste.

I've been partaking in energy drinks more often than I used to but not that constantly. There are very few that I actually enjoy the taste of; Rockstar Punched is Christ in a can, and I quite like grape-flavored NOS. But I had what I believe was a lemonade Amped (if not, then it was Rockstar) that was way too strong, and Red Bull Cola is a disgrace to sodas everywhere.

Five-Hour Energy Drink? One of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted.

I don't drink them very often, but when I do it's either Amp, or Starbucks Double shot.

Red Bull sucks.

I loved Surge, and to me Vault tastes exactly the same. If there is a difference, it's negligible. The point was, if you miss Surge, try Vault.

I never had Jolt - but once I had a Mega-Jolt. It had twice the caffeine as regular Jolt. Yes, it was pretty gross.

Amp tastes like gummy bears to me...and I like gummy bears.

Monster is a great alternative for making bombs (i.e. jager bombs, o-bombs, etc)...and it's cheaper than that shit Red Bull (which does not, due to common belief, give you wings).

I've tried Bawls before...and yes, it's got bawls.

5-hour energy is shite and doesn't work...at least on me it doesn't.

To be honest, I'm not that real big into energy drinks. I don't like the mass amounts of sugar and other supplements that just sit in your body. In fact, I'm not real big into caffeine as a whole. I used to drink coffee and cappachino (sp?) all the time, and then I used to feel weakened and sick afterwards so I stopped drinking coffee for about 6 years, along with colored pop (no, it's not racism). The only soda I would drink would be 7-Up, or Sprite, or Sierra Mist.

I'll RARELY have a Coke or something similar. Same with coffee.

Now, I kinda want an Amp. Fuck.

For those of you that feel Surge was just like Mountain Dew, I suggest you did a little reading up on the subject. I was really young them they took Surge off the shelves (about 12) but my cousin ADORED these things and couldn't get enough, his dad also worked for Coca-Cola. From what he said when they discontinued them - it was more of a health issue pertaining to the amount of caffeine in the soda (yes, still a soda but damn close to an energy drink) was far beyond safe and was causing seizures among other issues.

I didnt like the stuff personally... I just thought this was a valuable piece of information. I hate energy drinks, theyre nasty.

EDIT: And Vault is similar to Surge but definitely not the same deal.

I was just gonna make an energy drink thread cause I will probably be working a lot more hours coming up and wanted to see what the best energy drink is. Glad you made this thread Mopar!

The only one that makes me ill is Full Throttle. Ugh that tastes like shit to me.

I guess the one I prefer is Rockstar. Those seem to keep me blitzed the longest.

i feel like the 5-hour energy works splendidly. i'm completely immune to caffeine, the regular energy drinks don't do shit for me. but the 5 hr is good stuff and you don't have to swallow a gallon of sugar.

Uh, Surge was canned because it wasn't selling. I found nothing about it being a "dangerous" drink. And I don't think anyone said it was like Mountain Dew - it was simply Coke's version of an alternative drink (IE: not cola, not lemon-lime, not Dr. Pepper-ish, etc.)

Anyway, no one has had a Surge in ten years, so there's no way to know how close they are, but to me it's the same thing as Vault.

I had a Red Bull once and it made me retch. I just don't do super sugary, artificial beverages.

The nearest I get to an energy drink is an Original Lucozade when I'm severely hungover.

I don't drink Coffee either. Yuck.

Sugar and caffeine work in tandem, stronger together than as separate parts. I think the low-carb and sugar free energy drinks are kind of a waste. You might as well buy some No-Doze pills.

AJ, I've been wanting to tell you about this drink: Jones Soda Berry Lemonade. It tastes just like one of those MOuntain Dew drinks you were bummed that got pulled - the blue one.

I've been on a real-sugared soda kick lately thanks to the Throwback Mountain Dews and Pepsis, and that's where I came across Jones. Good stuff, weird flavors.

As for energy drinks: Monsters for me.

In all fairness, video game/food product crossovers reached their pinnacle in the early 80s with Pac-Man cereal, and have been on a stead decline in quality since.

Energy drinks are like my kryptonite. My one weakness. I love them.

Has anyone tried Rockstar Recovery? It's actually really good and not horrible for you (aside from the caffeine). It only has 20 calories for the whole can, 2 grams of sugar and 2 grams of carbs. Also, it isn't carbonated. It may be my new favorite energy drink. I've been trying to cut back lately what with all the sugar and general bad stuff they contain, but this may very well be my new go-to energy drink.

Interesting fact : In Canada , Mountain Dew contains no caffeine .... only cola soda are allowed to have caffeine. So all those commercials about DO THE DEW never made any fucking sense around here lol

I used to drink lotsa those energy drinks ( NOS , Monster Java or the classic Red Bull & Vodka mostly ) but after a while you kinda get tired to have your heart racing all the time. Now i just drink one before i go out which is like once a month ( aging sux ! ) but i drink the good shit lol ... NOS = cocaine in a bottle

i'm not into energy rush from sugar and caffeine. The crash makes it pointless.

If I need some energy, I'll get a curry/chilli/lasagna and a Guinness, the original, not that widget in a can shit. That'll do me just fine.
