Foreign movies of the past 3 years

I've been out of the loop for the past few years on foreign films. Have there been any gems, or just entertaining movies? European territories, South America is what I am looking for mainly?

Thanks for the recommendations Digifruitella. I'll look into those.

I'm kinda in the same boat as Alejandro. I havent watched any new foreign films in the last few years.

Dogtooth
Biutiful
The White Ribbon
The Class

Maybe I just haven't been keeping up with enough foreign films, but I have found the output over the past few years to be pretty weak. Certainly not on the level of 2000-2006.

A Separation is not in the region you specified, but it's spectacular. And don't worry, it's not a foreign film that's interesting only because of the world it peeks into, it's actually a great film in its own right. Seek it out, pronto.

Cell 211 (Spain) and The Chaser (South Korea) are both being remade in America, but they both deserve to be seen now (Paul Haggis is remaking -- and will certainly butcher -- Cell 211). Just wonderful action thrillers that don't break every convention but certainly top any American action film I've seen the past few years.

Thanks for some of the suggestions! Dogtooth and The Elite Squad have been added to my list.

In reference to some other suggestions, I found The White Ribbon to be the most boring movie of recent years. I'd give it a miss.

Hasn't Been Mentioned: [Maybe not the territory you're looking for but an awesome film, none the less.]

I Saw the Devil

and

The Baader Meinhof Complex

Just doing back to 2008?

I'll second I saw the devil and The Chaser (both Korean but must sees). Little Deaths was also very good, and I liked Cold Prey 3 as well (I obvisouly watch a lot of horror). Biutiful and The Skin I live In were also very good. Cold Fish and Guilty of Romance were great, but those are Asian. I liked Sleeping Beauty too, but not a lot of other people did.

Sin Nombre
Los Bastardos
13 assassins
The Trollhunter

out of those Los bastardos is the only one I would say is nothing too special but it's still an entertaining movie to watch

"Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec": Fantasy adventure with Louise Bourgoin
"Crime d'amour": Thriller with Ludivine Sagnier and Kristen Scott Thomas

There are still quite a few big releases I need to see: Gomorrah, Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives, The White Ribbon, and I Saw the Devil.

From what I have seen, some stand-out are:

13 Assassins
Biutiful
Micmacs
A Separation

Looks like I've gotta get brushed up!
