If you’re a fan of the zombies and creatures in the Resident Evil movie franchise and you’re curious what’s coming in Resident Evil: Retribution, you’re in the right place. That’s because while visiting the set last month in Toronto along with a few other online reporters, we got to speak with makeup effects supervisor Paul Jones. During the interview, Jones talked about the new and returning zombies, the make-up in the fifth film and how it’s different, the new creatures, and a lot more. Here’s a few of the highlights from Paul Jones:
•There are more zombies this time around except they’re in smaller groups.
•Everything is enhanced with the Russian zombies; their actions are almost super-human.
•Jones wanted the makeup on the zombies to look realistic. He took inspiration from Day of the Dead.
•The Lickers are all CGI.
•They created cocoons, which are like egg pods that come from the Lickers.
•There are three different types of zombies: the newly created undead, the Russians – Las Plagas, and the zombies in Tokyo.

HERE IS PARTS FROM THE LONGER VERSION OF THE STORY/Synopsis

Clearly shaken, she tells Ada, “I know her. Her name was Rain…But how can she be here? She died years ago.” Ada tells Alice that the undead she killed was just a clone – Umbrella has created clones to test their viral weaponry on. They have more clones of Rain, and even have some of Alice herself.
(PART 2)Meanwhile, Luther, Leon and Sergei are getting closer to Alice when they encounter Lickers, a nasty looking, but feeble form of undead with razor sharp teeth and a long slithering tongue. Though the smaller Lickers are easy to defeat, an Uber-Licker advances on them, using its amazing strength and speed to rip Sergei clean in half. Leon and the others open fire, but their bullets do nothing to stop it. The Uber-Licker is face to face with them when he is suddenly illuminated by a vehicle’s headlights approaching.
(PART 3) Though Alice knows that Becky is just a clone of her daughter, she can’t help but go after her, even if it means fighting the Uber-Licker one-on-one. With only minutes remaining before the facility explodes, will Alice be able to save Becky and make it back to the surface alive? If any franchise needs to get rebooted its this one. I am a HUGE fan of the games. But these movies have been a disgrace to the games. They should reboot and go with the storyline of the 1st game. Ofcourse since its a film it won't be 100% like the game, they will have to make adjustments to not have it be exactly as the game. But only minor tweaks. The game has an overall awesome story that IMO can easily be translated to film. They need to take a notice at what walking dead is doing. They are making the zombie theme relevant again. The movie has to be based on one main idea. Survival. These people are just trying to survive this dillemma they have gotten in the middle of. Sure we learn some things about what is going on along the way but the theme is survival. These RE films are more action packed films but RE should be more of a horror/suspense film with plot twist that keep you on the edge of your wanting to know, just like the characters themselves (most of them), "what the hell is going on!"

The problem with this is that ALL of the Resident Evil movies have had cool trailers IMO. And they were all mediocre. Well, actually I did enjoy Apocalypse. It's a guilty pleasure. But the others are all mediocre.

I'll see it for two reasons. 1) I've seen all of them anyway, I might as well see this one and 2) more importantly for me is the return of Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine!

As we saw in a WonderCon sneak peek, the years haven't dulled star Milla Jovovich's ability to kick major zombie ass. Alice is coming up with all new ways to destroy the undead.

The sequence takes place in the long, all white corridor seen briefly in one of the trailers. Alice is running down it, wielding a long metal chain and a gun while being pursued by a lone female zombie in a blue dress. She turns and swings the chain into the zombie's face, knocking it down. But the threat is far from over, as about two dozen more zombies chase into the room after Alice. What happens next is a few solid minutes of concentrated, all-out zombie ownage. Here's a by no means exhaustive list of all the various methods of zombie killing:

1. Shoot them square in the head. This happens a lot, as you might expect.
2. Wrap the chain around the zombies' legs and bring them to the ground.
3. When out of ammo, toss the spent clip into the air and kick it into a zombie's face.
4. Stand over a fallen zombie and break its neck using just one's legs.
5. Do a bicycle kick that I'm pretty sure involved both the chain and the gun, though it all happened so fast I can't swear to it.
6. Climb onto one zombie and use this height advantage to jump over other zombies while hitting them with chain and/or shooting them in the head.

Look, this clip showed us nothing about the movie's story, characters, or, well...anything other than the fact that this movie should be a good delivery system of badass zombie killing. Seriously, this thing packed more hardcore zombie annihilation into three minutes than The Walking Dead manages in entire seasons. So, if you want to see zombies die in awesomely violent, ridiculously stylized ways, look no further.

As for the rest of the panel, director Paul W.S. Anderson said this movie will open with the gigantic battle sequence teased at the end of the last Resident: Evil movie. He said that, after that huge setpiece, the movie heads in an unexpected direction and goes back to before the infestation. This provides the opportunity for return appearances both by characters from previous movies and beloved video game characters who haven't shown up until now. The returning cast members includes Michelle Rodriguez - who one can only hope will now have the unprecedented chance to get killed off twice in an action franchise, which would balance out the fact that she somehow survived Battle: LA - as well as Oded Fehr and Colin Salmon. Anderson also said that he hopes this will be the penultimate entry in the series, building towards a huge finale in Resident Evil 6.

Funny thing is, the more recent games would make for great action movies, but the real movies are just more incompetent.

A real horror film would be welcome. And it'd be much lower budget so I'm not sure why they're opposed.

I'm definitely looking forward to this, been a fan from the beginning and this looks like the best one .

Can't say with a straight face these fims are high art or that they couldn't have been more effective but it doesn't matter because i thoroughly enjoy this series in spite of all the inconsistencies, plot holes, silliness and it's insistence on making a non game character the centerpiece for the franchise.

They always deliver enough Res Evil nods to satisfy my love for the games and to entertain me as pure sci fi action diversions .

I do admit that this should be the last one in this series and it should be rebooted like they did with Spiderman but this latest one has me all excited again, should be great .
