Actor Assholes
I was listened to Radio 2 the other morning and the presenter started going on about what a horrible person Arnold Schwarzenegger was when he had to interview him. He was really obnoxious. I found that quite surprising actually, not that I know Arnold personally or anything, but I just guessed he'd be a nice guy.
I've heard similar things about Chris Rock and Val Kilmer, that they're just not nice in real life. Of course, maybe they just don't like doing endless interviews or don't like reporters, or they were having a bad day. I really like guys like Tom Cruise who spends hours before his movie premieres meeting fans, signing autographs and so on. I honestly think he'd be a nice guy in real life. Has anyone else heard of any complete assholes?! |

I'm going to be an asshole and spout out my thoughts on celebrities' personalities and how others give a shit.
A celebrity is an entertainer first, and I-don't-care-what second (as long as no one is being killed or hurt in the process). Why do people feel a need to follow what these people do in their personal lives? What does their personality matter in the long run? Should we care that they are good - or bad - people? In what way does their actual personality matter if their performance on screen/stage/radio/whatever provides what you hoped for? In any job, from any place, there are good people and bad. There are raving lunatics and well-adjusted individuals. Just because they are a celebrity, somehow it matters more to us than it does any other time. Also, if they do what they do because they like it, and then become successful, is it really their responsibility to cater to the needs and desires of the fans who follow him/her? What if they are a private person that does it because they love the job and want to make a decent living? Maybe they hate their personal lives being invaded, and don't like the idea of others thinking they somehow earned the RIGHT to invade their privacy, get an autograph, stalk them or whatever else comes their way due to being a celebrity. /endrant |

I don't even care if they have hurt somebody for that matter. Victor Salva is a convicted pedophile, but that doesn't stop me from watching and enjoying Jeepers Creepers when I see it (it's usually among the horror flicks I'll see every Halloween season). Roman Polanski raped a (I don't quite remember how old the girl was, 15? 16?)young girl but I'll still watch and love most of his movies. I mean, I do care to an extent, it means they are horrible people. Of course if they also repent on what they did and did their time, then I'm also a firm believer in second chances as long they have truly changed. Salva did his time. I don't know if he's sorry for what he did but at least he did his time. Polanski, on the other hand, fled the country. Yes, I know he got screwed by the judge and that's why he fled. I don't care. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. I like Polanski the filmmaker. But I do not like or admire the man himself. That's the difference. |

That's true, but some celebrities do handle their fame better than others, in my opinion. A lot of the interviews they do are to promote an upcoming movie or project or whatever. If they want people to go see the movie, then they'll do the interviews. I'm sure that the more they do, the more annoying it gets, but still . . . like I said, some handle it better than others.

And here I thought this was going to be a graphic pornography thread.

And in do so, these studios will make these actors sign a contract that says they will promote the movie. So they have to do a sh*tload of interviews and that might get frustrating and tiresome which will lead to them being pricks. Which might be unfortunate, because they're probably not (all) like that most of the time. |

Shannon Doherty and James Woods.
Shannon was fired from Beverly Hills 90210 due to conflicts with Aaron Spelling. Also fired from Charmed by Spelling. Both firings due to her bitchy and demanding attitude and treatment to everyone. She also was fired from Scare Tactics for the same reasons. James Woods said in an interview that he's an asshole and treats everyone the same: like they are shit. He admits he's a jerk, but I think he's a great actor and I can live with his attitude. |

You need to be careful with your wording. You should say asshole actors, otherwise you're implying a thread about famous anuses. But, I mean, we can talk about that too, if you want. |

Never cared if my favorite actors are assholes. Doesn't change how good they are.

This. Plus, if I were a famous/celebrity I'd probably be a fucking prick myself. So I can't fault others who are doing what I'd most likely do if I were them.

Also, these guys are basically "at work" 365 days a year.
EVERYONE has bad days. Problem is that one time they were short with the press get's played over and over. And the other 364 times they were professional and nice get's ignored. |

Most actors I've met were interesting people who happened to have a pretty cool job and were well aware of how lucky they were. On the other hand, one or two spring to mind as complete and utter fucktards.
My personal Hall of Shame: - The late Anne Bancroft. I worked on a movie set (one of her last) where she was one of the supporting actors. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) was informed that if anyone south of the director, makeup artist or lead actor looked at, talked to, or even breathed on her, they were immediately thrown off the set. The PA's were told to tell everyone this on the hour, every hour. Finally someone said, "Why should we give a flying fuck about the has-been?" - Willem Dafoe. I interviewed him for John Carter and he clearly did not want to talk about the movie or his character. I heard he did the same thing to Jon Stewart so I should consider myself in good company. ![]() |

I was an extra on the set of Idiocracy. To my recollections, the coolest actor there was Terry Crews. He was funny off camera, engaging, and once openly asked how come the extras have to eat lunch separately from the main cast and crew. I also shook hands with Mike Judge, very cool guy.
I wouldn't go so far as to say he was an asshole but least personable actor there was Luke Wilson. One time as he was walking back to his trailer, I called out his name to get his attention and waved. He waved back, but with a sneer. ![]() |
