Film is officially release today!

(update)

Here are all the reviews(so far)...

Quote:
Linda Barnard, Toronto Star: 1 1/2 (of 4)
"It's all the same blah-blah carnage, with 3D effects hurling blood, blades and body parts into the audience amid a non-stop barrage of gunfire and explosions."

Quote:
Adam Litovitz, Toronto Globe & Mail: 1 1/2 (of 4)
"A few striking images keep our attention... [but] this material is de rigeur for sci-fi thrillers... the film's title promises payback, without offering ample compensation."

Quote:
Clark Collis, Entertainment Weekly: GOOD
"...lunatically haphazard... Why did Umbrella capture Alice in the first place?... It's tempting to say that W.S. Anderson is not really in the 'Why?'-answering business."

Quote:
Andrew Dowler, Toronto Now: EXCELLENT
"The action starts right away and doesn't let up till the end. The scope is epic, and the flawless 3-D is devoted to flinging stuff in your eye as often as possible."

Quote:
Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News: POOR
"...thuddingly awful.... layered with muddy-looking, unnecessary and cash-grabbing 3-D, it gives even more of a headache than it had to.... lazy and hyperbolic."

Roger Moore, Chicago Tribune: POOR
"Jovovich can act, though you'd never know it... it's a flat performance... The violence in 'Retribution' is impersonal, gory and non-stop." http://www.chicagotribune.com/site/n...,1925300.story

WORST OF THE BUNCH FOR ME

A word of warning my friends, this, along with the second film are the worst in the franchise....boy did this movie stink! It is an empty vessel, no character development, no story...it's only about Alice and friends trying to escape an Umbrella facility..thats it. There's no suspense...and the acting is beyond horrible! The dialog..is inane...P.W. Anderson was apparently not even trying with this one.

And this comes from a guy who enjoyed Extinction and Afterlife, which are both way better films then this mess!

You've been warned, you will feel cheated! This sequel is filler. It has an awesome opening sequence, and an awesome closing sequence...thats it.

RE 6 will be split in 2 parts

IMDB User 'RuJRuify' said this:
Paul will begin filming number six in late 2013 and the film will be in two parts! I saw the news on te Facebook thing. It sounds offical cause the film is number and is making a *beep* load of money right now so im sure screen gems has already greenlit it.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1855325/...read/204591486

'RujRuify' then replied a few posts later:
It's a rumor its on the Spanish resident evil fb page.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the people that have seen 'Retribution'.. Do u think Wesker was Wesker or a clone? I think he was a clone. I've played the game and he was alway evil. my guess could be wrong if it turns out that Wesker was only playing nice in order to get Alice to destroy
Spoiler:
the Red Queen
and then destroy Alice and ensave the world. Like in the games, Wesker made clones of himself because he thought he was a god.

Its kind of funny. In the Third Resident Evil film. We learn that there were clones of Alice. This was already known in the first movie because one of Alice's names in Resident Evil(2002) was the name: Janus Prospero. Remember 'Judge Dredd'? Well, In that film there is a thing called 'The janus Project' which makes clones of Dreed, who himself, was a clone. I could be wrong.....

It was simple fun. After the first four installments I know clearly where to set my expectations, how much of my brain to shut off, and I find that I just enjoy the mindless ride. I geeked out when I saw Ada Wong, Leon, and Barry Burton; the constant video game references brought a nerdy smile to my face. I have nothing against Milla as Alice and thank God she is once again vulnerable. The giant Licker was cool, I liked the Las Plagas zombies (chainsaw baddie ftw!), and Becky reminded me of Newt from Aliens.

I'll definitely be there for the last installment.

Not a great movie in the traditional sense but great entertainment , it's an expensive cheap Italian horror movie of the highest order liberally ripping off other films with reckless abandon and making no apologies for it .

Pure eye candy, this is the type of film 3d was made for, it was better than i thought it would be . Another great soundtrack, terrific action scenes, rousing fight scenes and an impeccable sound mix .

I only have one complaint, still no mutant spiders or hunters but if the boffo ending is any indication i'm sure they are going to make an appearance in part 6, just hope Anderson hasn't made an ambitious promise that he won't be able to fulfill .

Okay i do have another problem, the way Burton and Kennedy are introduced is underwhelming, like an afterthought, two of the greatest videogame characters ever created and they are unceremoniously just thrown into the narrative like they were some scrubs.

It's a minor quibble though because Claire got the same treatment in part 3 .

Oh yeah, i want a poster of Jill on my wall, oh man, Guillory looked unreal in this film

I said this exactly to my friends as we were leaving the theater. I've been dying to see the giant spiders in the series (they're in every game) and especially the hunters. With one, or maybe two, installments left I hope we get our wish.

Worst entry in the franchise. Terrible movie. And one of the worst movies of the year.

Sienna Guillory looked incredibly sexy in that leather outfit she wears throughout the entire movie. But that's it as far as good things I can say about this movie.

Milla just tweeted these.

@MillaJovovich:

Milla, Paul and Boris are recording commentary tracks for Retribution AND Afterlife today. Milla tweeted about it and posted this http://t.co/fPtEEkPy

So if seems like Afterlife may be getting released on dvd/bluray again. So now we potentially have two extended cuts of that last two movies to look forward to.

I had fun but it cries for you to put your brain in storage for the duration. Great 3D. 7/10

Fun fact : when i got out of the theater , there was a rain storm in Montreal and there was a shitload of umbrellas opened on Ste-Catherine street ... felt like i was in a scene from RE for 3 seconds lol

I enjoyed it for what it was, but to be fair, this seemed like one of the worst entries in the franchise, right there next to RE2. Not much going on in terms of story, but it does set up an intriguing next movie. 6/10.

For me, it's RE1 = RE4 > RE3 > RE2 = RE5.

As much as I hated this movie, it DOES have one good scene. And that is the scene that ripoffs the opening scene of the Dawn of the Dead remake. The scene where Alice wakes up and she's married to Carlos (Oded Fehr's character, who has so little screen and so little to do that one wonders why they even bothered to bring him back, ditto for Michelle Rodriguez) and has a deaf daughter. And then boom, all of sudden they are attacked by zombies. It's the only scene in the entire movie that actually worked and that had me on the edge of my seat and was genuinely suspenseful and thrilling.

The rest of the movie was garbage. Although the opening scene where they show the big action scene going backwards LOOKED cool. It was totally unnecessary and had no purpose other than to look cool in 3D. But it did look cool, admittedly.

I don't get the hate for RE2. It's only movie in this franchise I enjoyed.

an "extended" update

Since September 14th, 2012, the 5th entry of the Resident Evil franchise Resident Evil: Retribution can be seen in US theatres (UK follows on September 28th, 2012). Since RE: Afterlife was such a big success, the new sequel is in 3D, as well. While Afterlife was censored* in several countries, we'll have to wait and see how the home video releases of Retribution turn out.

For later, Director Paul W.S. Anderson already has teased us with a little bonus information**. The future Blu-ray will contain an Alternate Cut that extends the theatrical version which currently runs 96 minutes. The last time that there were two versions of an RE movie was with RE: Apocalypse. This longer cut even came out exclusively in Germany (comparison***).

However, the shorter theatrical cut doesn't have a reduced runtime because it was necessary. Anderson wanted a compact, intense film and that conflicted with the shooting locations around the world, which take more time to be introduced than a smaller number of them would. So, what might benefit the action and horror fans does hurt the story-telling in the end. Here, the Alternate Cut is supposed to save the day by giving the story more air to breathe between the action sequences.

Anderson: "There is a lot more walking in it. [lacht] And a lot more talking."

While i can't speak for everyone , i'll say RE2 failed by introducing the bio-enhanced Alice which was the first major break from the essence of the Resident Evil videogame. Also , Nemesis was wasted and had a conscience (wtf!). Personally i don't hate it but i think it's the poorest entry in the franchise even it featured great scenes stolen from the games ( Alice running in the building while the copter shoots the windows was straight from Code Name : Veronica )

And if you check personnal favorites of everyone , the only consensus is that RE1 was the best

While predictable and despite the franchise being average in the movies , i want this. Sometime you have to put out to please the fans while not dragging it on to drain a cash cow who will run out of milk soon.

The last one should be truly epic considering how part 5 ended , just hope they go all out and don't skimp .

It has to be more than 90 minutes to encompass what was promised in those last moments of Retribution .

My only fear is that they make it a one location affair, that would be cheap and disappointing and there better be some hunters and spiders in this one also .

Highly anticipating the last entry in this series, they haven't let me down yet

This is my review of the film. You can view the original here which I would highly suggest for formatting reasons. Also, I made a nice little Mr. Burns pictures that sums up my feelings.: http://thetrendguys.com/2012/09/25/h...ion-3d-review/

I Went to See Resident Evil Retribution 3D Over The Weekend…

I was so ready to see this movie in theaters and I definitely thought it would be really fun to see in 3D. I just knew that this movie was going to take full advantage of 3D technology and I was going to have a blast in the theaters. I hadn’t really read up on the movie or any reviews, so I was going into the theaters with an open mind and had no clue what the next installment of the Resident Evil franchise has in store for me. Unfortunately, I was about to be disappointed.

Why Does Resident Evil Retribution 3D Even Exist?

When you hear someone asking why a movie even exists you know it’s not a good flick. This is a question that I’ve been asking myself and others that have seen Resident Evil Retribution 3D. In all honesty, I have no idea why this movie was put out. In my opinion, it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. Instead, it feels like a rehash of the previous films.

Resident Evil Retribution 3D is Typical.

I’m sure you could probably take a wild guess on how the movie begins and ends.

The beginning of Resident Evil Retribution 3D: Alice wakes up in a research facility. How many times have we seen that already?

The middle of Resident Evil Retribution 3D: Alice tries to escape the research facility that she woke up in. They’re really struggling for ideas at this point.

The end of Resident Evil Retribution 3D: Alice and a group of survivors facing down incredible odds. You know how every movie basically ends with a shit ton of infected enemies surrounding some sort of a barrier and you’re like: “Oh shit. The next movie is going to be action packed. No way they can overcome those odds.” In other words, it ends just like every other Resident Evil movie. We’ve seen this way too many times for it to be an effective ending at this point.

So, What Was the 3D Aspect Like in Resident Evil Retribution 3D?

They took advantage of the fact that the film was in 3D and there was some really cool effects. It wasn’t as “mind blowing” as I thought it would be, but they did some cool stuff.

What I Think About Resident Evil Retribution 3D Overall.

Overall, I thought the movie was just okay. If I had to give it a rating, I would say it gets a 5 out of 10. It’s not an awesome movie, but it’s not a total bust, either. Honestly, I just don’t see the whole point in this installment of the Resident Evil franchise. Given the ending, I think they would have been able to combine the plot of this movie with what is hinted at being the plot of the next Resident Evil film quite easily. Basically, I think this film is just a way to squeeze money out of fans of the franchise without putting forth any real effort. The Resident Evil 6 game comes out next month, so they know that Resident Evil fans are hyped up and this is a cheap way to take advantage of the situation.

well at this rate , Retribution will not rake as big as Afterlife at the box office ( well 300M$ was a record afterall ) but it could end in the 200-225 millions range

That doesn't only make the movie profitable but worth the 6th installement the ending of Retribution promises.

Actress Sally Cahill confirmes that she dubbed for Ada Wong in 'Retribution'

translated:
This morning, we were contacted by the voice-over actress Sally Cahill (Ada Wong in RE2, RE4 and Darkside Chronicles). She Has Been Told us she receiving many emails from fans of the series asking if she has dubbed Li Bingbing in Resident Evil Retribution. The answer is YES, she did! In Sally's own words, "the director had great respect for Li Bingbing and her performance but wanted to give it more of Ada That original edge so I believe I was Brought in to do the voice for her."

After hearing abysmal things about the movie, I must say it wasn't that bad. Paul W.S. Anderson knows how to film action scenes. The backwards opening scene is good, the Dawn of the Dead sequence was nice and I liked how Alice beats the crap out of several Japanese zombies in a hallway. Because of the different locations the movie actually felt like a video game, with each new location a different level. Anderson also tries to cram in as many styles as possible: running zombies, soldier zombies, big monsters, car chases, close quarter combat, (wo)man to (wo)man fights. The film doesn't shy away from action.

However Anderson doesn't seem to be bothered by anything that resembles a (coherent) plot or character development. There are two big exposition scenes to give you a general idea what's going on, but characters are still dumped on screen with no introduction and almost a staple of the franchise: it ignores characters that survived the last movie.
It would've been nice if Anderson actually took some time to explain what's going on in the world, other than it's desolate and somehow the Umbrella Corporation is still thriving. Umbrella still has an endless supply of henchmen on the payroll and in their infinite facilities they are still experimenting for some reason. Instead we get the director's wife kicking ass and being awesome for 90 minutes. The worst part is I don't even mind that much. Bring on the next one.

I agree with u. The movie wasn't that bad. The First time I saw I was so excited to see 'El' Gigante' and then i noticed that it was replaced by the Uber Licker which is just fine too. My review is a "Work-in-Progress" and will take me sometime to write it. I have to make sure that plan it out carefully.

The 3D,Bluray,DVD and 5-pack are all confirmed for a release date of DECEMBER 21ST. Like it says in a few posts above: expect a full announcement on 11/12...or whenever I get more info

found on imdb : new Theory (contains spoiler for end of 'Retribution')

imdb user "pawlo-86" posted this:

" I re-watched whole RE series and i'm going to back to my theory which i had after reading of RE5 extended plot - that all events from RE1 to RE4 were set in Hostlie World - fake world created by Umbrella Corporation.

Story:

Umbrella Corporation build testing floors in Umbrella Prime - a secret underwater faclity in North Russia. They tested BOWs there: T-Virus, Las Plagas, BOW monsters etc. Events from Resident Evil and Apocalypse were T-Virus simulations. Recordings from simulations were send to militaries from Russia, USA, Japan and China. Umbrella used submarines to transport BOW around the world. Red Queen - a super computer - take over Umbrella, unleashed BOW and started a war against humanity. Events from Extinction and Afterlife were simulations made after Red Queen destroyed the real world. Project Alice was tested by Umbrella in all simulation scenarios. President Wesker, who leads last humans in White House, send strike team to Umbrella Prime to rescue Project Alice. Project Alice is ultimate weapon which can stop extinction of human race.

Clues:

- Milla said that Project Alice is EXPERIMENT and she is one of THOUSANDS OF CLONES,
- Paul said that Umbrella created a fake world to test BOW because they can't do it in real world - they would be closed down.
Fake world is populated by clones who believe that they lived in real world,
- clones of Alice, Carlos, Rain, One, J-Pop Girl, J-Business man lived in Umbrella Prime,
- Milla said that there would be HUGE SUPRISE about origin of Alice,
- Wesker named Umbrella as "they" and informs Alice that human race is close to extinction,

So yes, Resident Evil: Retribution can be a huge retcon which claims that events from RE1-RE4 were simulations made for Project Alice and she is needed to stop extinction of human race lead by Red Queen."

The biggest flaw for that theory is all the travelling Alice does in RE4 .... flying in a plane to Alaska then to LA. That's one hell of an underground complex.

The trivia & goofs of RE:R

Did You Know?(aka trivia)

The first movie of the series not to feature undead dogs.

The role of Becky was not considered to be hearing-impaired, but after an outstanding audition, the role was later given to Aryana Engineer.

During the car chase scene from the Las Plagas/Zombie infected Russian army the music playing during this scene is titled 'Phantom Chase' by tomandandy. This song particularly references music from the original _Resident Evil (1996)_ (VG) video game. The name of the song that is referenced is 'Second Floor Mansion'.

Continuity

During the fight between Leon, Luther, and Rain at the climax of the film, Rain's gloves seem to disappear in close-ups.

Throughout the car chase, damage on the car disappears and reappears between shots.

When Ada explains to Alice how she killed the operatives in the facility's central command station so that Wesker could hack into the computer and release Alice, a security-tape replays the scene with Ada standing in the center of the room shooting outwards. But when Alice first arrives in the room, there are plates of glass in front of each workstation (for projecting computer images onto) facing the center of the room with blood-splatters on them. This would imply that each worker was shot from behind. Also, if Ada had shot the workers from the center of the room, she would have shot through and shattered each of the glass panels.

During the fight between Alice and the Tokyo zombies in the well lit, white hallway, Alice shoots and smashes the zombies, with blood shown coming from the impacts. However no blood ever appears on the white walls until the end, when only pools can be seen on the floor.

We see blood and bullets coming out of Rain's fingertips, but there is no blood in the snow.

Plot holes

In Afterlife it takes more than a day after removing the scarab device for Claire to start getting her memories back. But in Retribution, after Alice removes the scarab device from Jill she gets her memories back in only a few minutes.
