Agreed, absolutely. I love it to shreds for it. Actually, Japanese were really good at evoking a certain type of atmosphere through light and production design. Truly masterful. You should check out Matango
and Goke, Body Snatcher From Hell
, which I saw last night and loved. Matango and Goke are less 'arthouse' but very atmospheric with an underlying subtext/social commentary, whatever you wanna call it. Very good
