Skylanders Giants thread

There will be 8 new Giants characters with LightCore technology priced at $14.99 each, one for each elemental group. Tree Rex will come with every packaging variation of the game so the other 7 will have to be bought individually.

There will be 8 all-new regular sized Skylanders characters, again one for each elemental group. There will be 8 LightCore figures, one for each elemental group, that will be based off existing and Giants regular sized characters. The LightCore characters will have an alternate regular version, either a Series 2 or all-new character. Lastly, there will be 24 Series 2 characters, which are new sculpts of characters from Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, breaking down to 3 for each of the 8 elemental groups.

So to recap, each elemental group will include 1 Giant, 1 all-new regular sized Skylander, 1 LightCore Skylander, and 3 Series 2 resculpts.

Article| Skylanders Giants Wii U: What We Know

kylanders Giants is one of Nintendo Wii U launch titles that will be available to purchase on November 18, if not a few days sooner. On a recent trip to the offices of Skylanders Giants developer Toys for Bob, I had the opportunity to retrieve some additional information about the upcoming game.
In speaking with one of the Skylanders Giants Toys for Bob team members, it was confirmed that Skylanders Giants on Wii U will be a port of the other console versions. There's nothing hidden in the game that has been developed exclusively for Wii U. The Xbox 360/Playstation 3/Wii version has been ported to Wii U and was just delivered to Toys for Bob for testing/impressions the day before my visit.

Toys for Bob has not had much of an opportunity to play the Wii U version of Skylanders Giants. What they have seen thus far pretty much confirms what is expected.

The Skylanders Giants WIi U port will take advantage of Wii U's basic functionality by including second-screen co-operative play where one player can play on the GamePad while the other looks on the television screen. In single-layer mode, the player can opt to use the GamePad for the item and collection management screens.

Skylanders Giants for Wii U will also support the ability to walk away from the television set and play the game exclusively on the GamePad. You won't be able to take your Portal of Power with you and the Wii U GamePad NFC reader does not work with Skylanders toys. If you do walk away, changing characters will require returning to where the console sits.

Visually, the Toys for Bob team member thought - in his person opinion - that the Skylanders Giants Wii U port had *slightly* stronger colors than the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 versions. That's only his opinion, though, and he hasn't spent much time with it yet.

Skylanders Giants Variant and Sidekick Names Revealed

One the lingering mysteries from our trip to Skylanders Giants developer Toys for Bob were the discovery of several repaints of new characters that had, at that point in time, not been revealed to the public. There was an all-white Whirlwind, a purple Double Trouble, and several others just sitting in a display case.
I asked one of the Toys for Bob team members about the variant figures and he didn't know the specifics. He knew they were variants that would likely be released, but any information beyond that was more of a marketing function and had nothing to do with the game's development team.

Earlier today the official Skylanders Universe online game website updated and added several of these new variants characters along with their official names. In addition, the names of four upcoming Sidekick characters were also revealed, but no images are available at this time (you can see at least two of them in our Toys for Bob article). The new Sidekicks are Barkley (a small version of Tree Rex?), Eye-Small (Eye Brawl, pictured in our article), Thumpling (Thumpback, pictured in our article), and Mini Jini (Ninjini). It is believed these Sidekicks will once again be part of a Frito-Lay promotion that will run in 2013, but there's no official confirmation of that at this time.

I have included screenshots of each newly identified variant character below and tossed in Pop Fizz and Granite Crusher as well. Pop Fizz comes exclusively with the 3DS version of Skylanders Giants much like last year's Dark Spyro did with the 3DS version of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. Granite Crusher will be available this Sunday to purchase exclusively at Target stores.

Click on any of the Skylanders Giants variant images for a high resolution look. All of these variants are expected to look like their variant figures in-game.

Be on the lookout for our Skylanders Giants full review and a couple other neat Giants-related tidbits coming online tomorrow.

Pre-order Skylanders Giants on the platform of your choice at Amazon.com, with the individual Skylanders becoming available in the near future.

Here are the names:

Scarlett Ninjini (Giant)
Royal Double Trouble
Punch Pop Fizz (3DS exclusive, available 10/21)
Gnarly Tree Rex (Giant, Australia Starter Pack exclusive available 10/21)
Granite Crusher (Target exclusive available 10/21)
Jade Flashwing
Polar Whirlwind
Molten Hot Dog

Like Yoda (from Star Wars) said: "There is another.."

Skylanders Giants is poised to be a huge hit this holiday shopping season after Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure took retailers and Activision by surprise when thousands upon thousands of kids got the game for Christmas and quickly scooped up all the available figures until none were left.
The Skylanders brand is alive and well with a console game, online game, 3DS portable game, and upcoming tablet-based games. It's not going anywhere any time soon, which has us looking ahead as to what might be coming in 2013.

During my visit to Toys for Bob a few weeks ago, I noticed all the developers were hard at work despite the game having just gone gold. Clearly more levels and/or games are on the way, and the first indication as to what direction they might go is hidden within Skylanders Giants.

Completing the stoy mode of Skylanders Giants initiates a rather extensive credits roll that takes several minutes to cycle through. Flynn keeps things lively through the first portion, but there's a lot more to go after he's done and gone.

Sitting through the credits will reveal a post-credit cut-scene that sets up, you guessed it, Skylanders 3.

Major Spoilers Follow so proceed at your own risk.
Spoiler:
In the Skylanders Giants post-credits scene, Kaos and Glumshanks return to Kaos' castle after having crashed in the Arkeyan robot they ride around in for a portion of the game. Defeated but not discouraged, Kaos begins to rant about how he has 37 (I think, it was 30-something) more plans to take over Skylands and will not stop for anything.

While Kaos rambles on, a large shadow hovers over both him and Glumshanks. The pair look up - way up - at the shadow, and Kaos says simple, "mother?"

Mom, as I'll call her, is referenced during the Kaos Castle level so her appearance-of-sorts in the post-credits scene isn't a total surprise. Still, her presence in the next game should mix things up from the "Kaos versus Skylanders" theme of the first two games. Clearly Kaos has some mommy issues that should be hysterical to see addressed.

As Master Eon says to close the game, there are many more adventures for your Skylanders and Giants to come.

Skylanders Giants Ninjini Figure (aka the final 'Skylanders Giants' Giant character)

Activision has officially released Ninjini, the eighth and final Skylanders Giants Giant character that is a cross between a genie and a ninja.

Ninjini first started showing up at Toys R Us roughly a week ago and since has been dispatched to all major retailers. Those of you still looking for Thumpback and Eye Brawl should have better luck finding them with most Skylander shoppers now focusing on snatching up Ninjini.

Whats up AFTER 'SKYLANDERS GIANTS'?

Skylanders: Swap Force

'Skylanders Swap Force' has a "fall 2013" launch window (likely October, per the previous two), and is heading to Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3, and Nintendo's Wii U, 3DS, and Wii consoles at an unknown price.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/...rce-first-look

Skylanders SWAP Force features 16 new SWAP Force characters, along with 32 core Skylanders characters (16 completely new Skylanders and 16 new versions of fan favourite characters from previous games) and eight new LightCore characters all with their own special powers.
