Comus - Drip Drip
A tale of a brutal murder, this song is all acoustic featuring a shifting, swirling mire of guitars, violins, and various percussive instruments. Roger Wootton's frantic, disturbed vocal delivery adds much to the atmosphere of the song, as do his rather graphic lyrics. And just a bit of trivia, the line of the song As I carry you to your grave, my arms your hearse is where Mikael Åkerfeldt got the title for Opeth's album My Arms, Your Hearse. |

Just off the top of my head...
A lot of Mazzy Star songs fall under this rubric (especially Into Dust and Take Everything) and so do a lot of Concrete Blonde songs. There I would single out Tomorrow Wendy but you also need to include their cover of George Harrison's Beware of Darkness and their definitive version of Leonard Cohen's Everybody Knows.

Hammock- Raising your voice trying to stop an echo. I used to rock my baby to sleep in her stroller with this one during her first year and the whole album still resonates but that one track makes time stop
