some people made a favorite movies list and a list of the 100 best. Whats the difference? Everyone's opinion is different, and if something is your favorite how do you not perceive it as the best? It makes no sense to me

I'm not sure I understand the difference either. When it comes to objective quality, once can certainly discern that, but ultimately when making a top list your tastes (favorites) should be what is most important.

Hi Matchbox, very nice to see 2 Kore-eda movies on your list. You seen After Life and Maboroshi yet? My favourite Kore-eda would be Still Walking, though Nobody Knows would be close.

Ha yeah rock, Fear & Loathing is definitely a long one. I just love it cause its fuckin insane and funny as hell. Plus it has Depp's best performance imo.

I definitely think you need to check out Gangs of New York & The Fountain. If you dig Aronofsky & Scorsese I think you'll probably dig both of those films.

I did this about 4 months ago on MFC (hence the quotes) it's more or less in order, the top 20 is exact at least.

*

100: Lethal Weapon
I'm too old for this shit

99: Terminator 2: Judgement Day
The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it, for the first time, with a sense of hope. Because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too.

98: Unforgiven
I've killed women and children. I've killed just about everything that walks or crawled at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you did to Ned.

97: Rambo: First Blood
Back there I could fly a gunship, I could drive a tank, I was in charge of million dollar equipment, back here I can't even hold a job parking cars.

96: Excision
I do a lot of crazy shit when I'm alone, and I'd appreciate some privacy

95: Sin City
Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything.

94: The Hurt Locker
There's enough bang in there to blow us all to Jesus. If I'm gonna die, I want to die comfortable

93: Shaun Of The Dead
You've got red on you.

92: Inception
You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger darling.

91: Sunshine
Only dream I ever have, is it the surface of the sun? Everytime I shut my eyes, it's always the same.

90: The Big Lebowski
This is not 'Nam, this is bowling, there are rules.

89: The Shawshank Redemption
I believe in two things: discipline and the Bible. Here you'll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord; your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank.

88: Blade Runner
All those moments will be lost in time. Like, tears, in the rain.

87: Before Sunrise
It's like our time together is just ours. It's our own creation. It must be like I'm in your dream, and you in mine, or something.

86: Dead Man's Shoes
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven. I can't live with that.

85: Batman Begins
Justice is balance. You burned my house and left me for dead. Consider us even.

84: Watchmen
Last night, a comedian died in New York

83: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
What do you think you are, for Christ sake, crazy or something? Well you're not! You're not! You're no crazier than the average asshole out walking around on the streets and that's it.

82: The Thing
I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter tied to this fucking couch.

81: Martyrs
Martyrs are exceptional people. They survive pain, they survive total deprivation. They bear all the sins of the earth. They give themselves up. They transcend themselves, they are transfigured.

80: Bridge On The River Kwai
A word to you about escape. There is no barbed wire. No stockade. No watchtower. They are not necessary. We are an island in the jungle. Escape is impossible. You would die.

79: Shame
We're not bad people, we just come from a bad place.

78: Naked
Have you ever thought, right, but you don't know, but you may have already lived the happiest day in your whole fuckin' life and all you have left to look forward to is fuckin' sickness and purgatory?

77: Titanic
I'm not an idiot, I know how the world works. I've got ten bucks in my pocket, I have nothing to offer you and I know that. I understand. But I'm too involved now. You jump, I jump remember? I can't turn away without knowing you'll be all right

76: Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn
Then let's head on down into that cellar and carve ourselves a witch.

75: All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
There she is boys, Mandy Lane. Untouched, pure. Since the dawn of junior year men have tried to possess her, and to date all have failed. Some have even died in their reckless pursuit of this angel.

74: Reservoir Dogs
You shoot me in a dream you better wake up and apologise.

73: Atonement
Come back, come back to me.

72: Haute Tension
I won't let anyone come between us any more.

71: Kill Bill Vol. 1
Those of you lucky enough to have your lives, take them with you. However, leave the limbs you've lost. They belong to me now.

70: The Bourne Ultimatum
You really don't remember, do you? We didn't pick you. You picked us. You volunteered. Right here. Right here, even after you were warned.

69: Once Upon A Time In The West
Do you know anything about a guy going around playing the harmonica? He's someone you'd remember. Instead of talking, he plays. And when he better play, he talks.

68: Gladiator
There was a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish, it was so fragile.

67: Battle Royale
Life is a game. So fight for survival and see if you're worth it.

66: Boogie Nights
You know, I'm gonna be a great big bright, shining star.

65: The Wild Bunch
Ten thousand cuts an awful lot of family ties.

64: Dawn Of The Dead (1978)
Every dead body that is not exterminated gets up and kills, the people it kills get up and kill.

63: Serenity
I aim to misbehave.

62 : Once Upon A Time In America
Age can wither me, Noodles. We're both getting old. All that we have left now are our memories. If you go to that party on Saturday night, you won't have those anymore. Tear up that invitation.

61: No Country For Old Men
What's the most you've ever lost in a coin toss.

60: The Proposition
I wish to present you with a proposition. I know where Arthur Burns is. It is a God-forsaken place. The blacks won't go there, not the tracks; not even wild men. I suppose, in time, the bounty hunters will get him. But I have other plans, I aim to bring him down, I aim to show that he's a man like any other. I aim to hurt him.

59: Attack The Block
This is too much madness to explain in one text.

58: Django Unchained
I like the way you die boy.

57: Die Hard
Now I have a machine gun, ho, ho, ho.

56: Se7en
We see a deadly sin on every street corner, in every home, and we tolerate it. We tolerate it because it's common, it's trivial. We tolerate it morning, noon, and night. Well, not anymore. I'm setting the example.

55: Jaws
And, you know, the thing about a shark, he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at you, doesn't seem to be living, until he bites you, and those black eyes roll over white and then, ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screaming. The ocean turns red, and despite all the pounding and the hollering, they all come in and they, rip you to pieces.

54: Memento
Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the colour of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.

53: Before Sunset
Baby, you are gonna miss that plane.

52: Heat
Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.

51: Aliens
We'd better get back, 'cause it'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night, mostly.

50: Pulp Fiction
In the fifth, your ass goes down.

49: A Fistful Of Dollars
To kill a man you shoot him in the heart. Isn't that what you said, Ramon?

48: Goodfellas
I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

47: Friday Night Lights
I was gonna buy you a house.

46: City Of God
Where do you want to take the shot? In the hand or in the foot?

45: The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
He regretted neither his robberies, nor the seventeen murders that he laid claim to. He had seen another summer under in Kansas City, Missouri and on September 5th in the year 1881, he was thirty-four-years-old.

44: Toy Story 2
You never forget kids like Emily, or Andy, but they forget you.

43: Black Swan
That was me seducing you. It needs to be the other way around.

42: The Cabin In The Woods.
Yes, you had "Zombies." But this is "Zombie Redneck Torture Family." Entirely separate thing. It's like the difference between an elephant and an elephant seal.

41: The Two Towers
Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east.

40: Alien
It's got a great defence mechanism, you don't dare kill it.

39: Lawrence Of Arabia
The best of them won't come for money, they'll come for me.

38: The Town
Alright. I'm in. But if anything happens to her, if I think anything might happen to her, I'm gonna come back here, and I'm gonna kill both of you in your own shop.

37: The Grey
Do something. You phony prick fraudulent motherfucker. Do something! Come on! Prove it! Fuck faith! Earn it! Show me something real! I need it now. Not later. Now! Show me and I'll believe in you until the day I die. I swear. I'm calling on you. I'm calling on you! Fuck it. I'll do it myself.

36: The Dark Knight
Madness is like gravity, all it takes is a little push.

35: Toy Story 3
When the kids get old, new ones come in. When they get old, new ones replace them. You'll never be outgrown, or neglected. Never abandoned or forgotten. No owners means no heartbreak!

34: Jurassic Park
Life will find a way

33: Chinatown
I goddamn near lost my nose and I like it, I like breathing through it.

32: This Is England
Men have laid down their lives for this. For this, and for what? So people can stick their fucking flag in the ground and say, "Yeah! This is England. And this is England, and this is England."

31: The Exorcist
The power of Christ compels you.

30. Four Months, Three Weeks, Two Days

29. Fellowship Of The Ring
I would've followed you to the end.

28. Toy Story
Wait a minute, I just lit a rocket... Rockets explode!

27. The Avengers
That man is playing Galaga. Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.

26. Saving Private Ryan
I'm a schoolteacher. I teach English composition... in this little town called Adley, Pennsylvania. The last eleven years, I've been at Thomas Alva Edison High School. I was a coach of the baseball team in the springtime. Back home, I tell people what I do for a living and they think well, now that figures.

25. Return Of The King
There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope.

24. Braveheart
The Almighty tells me he can get me out of this mess, but he's pretty sure you're fucked

23. Four Lions
I'm not confused brother! I just took picture of my face, and it's deffo not my confused face.

22. Drive
My partner is a belligerent asshole with his back up against a wall, right now, so am I.

21. Triangle
Oh you're just having a bad dream, that's all baby. That's all it was. Bad dreams make you think you're seeing things that you haven't. You know what I do when I have a bad dream? I close my eyes and I think of something nice, like being here with you.

20: Warrior
You listen to me. You take your have-a-heart bullshit and you run it down the road. Run it out on someone who doesn't know you like I do.

19: Zodiac
Before I kill you, I'm going to throw your baby out the window.

18: The Usual Suspects
After that my guess is that you will never hear from him again

17: Fight Club
You met me at a very strange time in my life.

16: Road To Perdition
This is the life we chose, the life we lead. And there is only one guarantee, none of us will see Heaven.

Two manky hookers, and a racist dwarf, I think I'm heading home.

One night, I'm gonna come to you, inside of your house, wherever you're sleeping, and I'm going to cut your throat.

13: WALL-E
Computer, define 'dancing.'

12: The Secret In Their Eyes
A guy can change anything. His face, his home, his family, his girlfriend, his religion, his God. But there's one thing he can't change. He can't change his passion

11: Apocalypse Now
You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill.

10: L.A. Confidential
Go back to Jersey, sonny. This is the City of the Angels, and you haven't got any wings.

I'm an English teacher not fucking tomb raider.

7: Taxi Driver
You talking to me?

If they had told me it was going to be fifteen years, would it have been easier to endure?
